Just curious how people arrange their games on the shelf. By system, then alphabetically by title? Separate games by category (sports, fighting, RPG, etc). Chronologically?
Any Nick Hornby fans go with autobiographically?
The Wii U is still the world's best console. Buy one today!
I arrange my games by system, then genre, then related titles in the same series. How I sort the genres in my library is a bit weird, but typically I shove one next to another due to the fact that the games may sort of be related. To cite a couple of examples from my 3DS collection, I have Super Mario 3D Land (platformer) sitting next to Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Action/Adventure).

Take a look my collections.
I organized my games based on their machines / brand.
I separate between Nintendo & Sony.
Nintendo games took over almost entire my shelf while there is only ONE room just for my PS2, PS4 & PS1 games.
I arranged them from A to Z, each Regions , similarities.
I display 2 - 3 games every month as Art Display, every month i change the games i want to display.
I decorate some rooms with mini posters and Nintendo related toys.
For 3DS & NDS HORI Cartridge case, since i can design my own design, i made some mini pictures to be pasted on 3DS Cartridge cases & my 3DS machines.
Pretty neat, eh ?
How about yours ?
I'm rather dull and try to keep my physical collection to a minimum. The best majority of my gaming collection is digital.
Otherwise I have a dvd album, where I store my discs (the cases are in storage too save on space) firstly by console manufacturer then by console, and then alphabetically. My ds games are stored similarly whereas my larger cartridges are pretty much just dumped into a box.
I have a few games on display - mostly the main series Pokemon games (in chronological order) and the occasional collectors edition that I've managed to pick up (Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Odin Sphere, Tales of Symphonia, Ni No Kuni 2...)
Mine is pretty simple compared to some of you guys. Only have about 10 physical switch games. We keep the carts in a little Hori game case on the TV stand and just stash the game boxes in a closet. The other 250+ games across ps4/switch are all digital so no clutter there.
Typically in purchase order, until that no longer becomes feasible for one reason or another.
Then it settles into alphabetically.
Sadly, I've had to give up the packaging on a lot of my library (can't rightfully call it a 'collection' when the packaging is gone) due to moving, so most of what I own no longer has much monetary value (220+ PS1 games, 400+ PS2, 250+ PS3, 150+ 360, etc.).
So yeah, a lot of value lost, and I know that makes people cringe.
I used to organized my games by system then by completions. Like for example, I beat Custom Robo 100% and put it first. Then I beat the game but not 100% next like Super Mario Sunshine. Then I put all the games I couldn't beat behind those completions. But its drive my brother nuts so we put them in alphabetically order by systems.
Games for same console are placed in alphabetical order except games from same series, those are re-ordered by release date.
Example:
Art Academy: Atelier
..
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
...
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Portable consoles:
Largely empty eases effectively just put on a shelf, somewhat grouped by series but definitely grouped by system. The organisation of the cases doesn't matter as much because I'm almost never going to the shelf to pick up a game. The games I feel I'm more likely to play are in the carrying case for that system. The carrying case is effectively just a small selection of games I want to be playing so absolutely no ordering
Non-portable consoles:
All the games are in the cases by the very nature of these systems. Again grouped by console and series but because I generally have more of these they are additionally sorted by metacritic rating.
Music & Movies:
Grouped by series or artist and then loosely grouped by genre/mood.
