Topic: Has AVGN Finally Gotten Stale?

There's no doubt that the Angry Video Game Nerd used to be the king of the gaming scene on Youtube, and for good reason. His videos were incredibly profane, every minute or so he'd spit out some over-the-top gibberish. And his comedy never really got old, even after one hundred episodes! Needless to say, his crudity helped him rise through the ranks in both the internet and our hearts... or something cliche like that.

After re-watching his videos though, I met with quite the unexpected realization: he's not really that funny. I mean, sure, some... 'odd' curses might be amusing at first. But it drags on so fast, after a few minutes I was pulling my hair out, waiting for some sort of twist in the humor, but nope, just obscenity after obscenity.

I'm curious if my experience was just due to my sense of humor evolving or if comedy itself is changing at such a rapid speed that James's usual gags seem dull now. Or maybe even James was simply never truly as funny as we thought he was. What do you guys think?

Well for one thing keep in mind that he has a child now so people mature when they have kids or at least some do. I still enjoy the AVGN and I look forward to his movie when it comes out. I think it just might be you honestly.

Also please watch the language this is a family site after all.

I had no idea James had a kid now!! I remember when he got married a few years back but have really been "off the grid" as far as keeping up with his latest Vids and personal life. A very late congrats to him and his wife!

Yeah he has been extreme busy with a new kid, The Nerd Movie as well as other projects. He had an update on the Nerd Movie a few weeks ago where he stated everything he is busy with right now, honestly I don't know how he does it.

Eh, I personally found his videos entertaining. Though humor is incredibly subjective, so to each their own I suppose, haha.

But that's the thing, his videos don't seem to have matured at all. They all just follow his milked-to-death format, along with his now predictable humor.

In all seriousness, I never saw the appeal of watching videos of others playing games and using profanity in response. I suppose watching broken games can be funny. I recently watched a video of him playing an incredibly broken game and it was amusing. However, the constant language gets old really quickly.

His new gameplay videos with his friend may not be full of potty humor and profanities, but they're quite entertaining to watch.

Some of his videos I find funny, some I don't.

I think the best parts are when something ridiculous happens in the game, then it quickly cuts to a reaction shot of him with his eyes wide and mouth hanging open.

I really liked the Sega CD, and Atari 5200 Episodes. Though I do like the episodes with his friend more Especially the Sonic 06 one :3

Yeah it was an unreleased game for the Philips CDi sadly even in it's unreleased form it looked better then the other CDi games.
