I wouldve said that but, Halo is better now that everyone is ignoring it.

I do hope you don't mean to imply that a game's quality changes depending on how popular it is...

No its that its being called garbage now and I never thought it was Garbage I just didnt like how it looked like metroid, but now COD is taken over and is as bland as Soap (pun intended) now. at least IMHO

Also, I've got another one to add: Advance Wars. Why do I see so many people, even critics, claiming that's some kind of grand strategy game? It's not. That's like saying a Uwe Boll movie should win academy awards.

That's a bit off topic, I guess. I don't understand why people call those games 'good' at all.

/me is back to defend Advance Wars again.
Critics and players don't call it a grand strategy game. They always call it a good, basic strategy game that you can get into really easily. It's not really meant for greatness or competitive play in the first place.
And I don't think the Uwe Boll analogy is relevant since his movies are terrible and everyone thinks so, but you're saying that Advance Wars is bad, but everyone likes it

And I don't like Gran Turismo. Too realistic for my tastes D:
Red Dead Redemption was too empty for me. There weren't enough cars or helicopters to crash...
Donkey Kong Country just never appealed to me very much... Although I like DKCR
And every Zelda game other than Phantom Hourglass just bored me I can't really see their appeal, but most people say that they're great.

That game was just one big advertisement for all the franchises.

I disagree, I've tried many of the games with similar play styles, and none of them were as well sound as the Gears of War series. It especially has better setpieces than most. If you know a better one, though, feel free to tell me.

Halo, Call of Duty, Killzone, and Warhawk, does everything Gears of Wars does good and does it a thousand times better. Graphics, sound elements, controls, gun balance, DLC, map design, variety of content, single player, and so on and so forth. Gears of War can't touch these juggernauts.

I've heard/ read heaps of claims that it's deep. It's not.

D: I dunno where you've heard that... I guess if it's the only strategy game that one has played, it would seem deep though...

:-/ I guess. It'd have to be literally the only strategy game they'd played. Hopefully it acted like a gateway drug for them _

Banjo Kazooie- The most overrated 3D platformer ever. Tried it to see what the big deal was, and I still don't see what the big deal is.

Street Fighter II- One-on-one fighters just aren't my thing.

Final Fantasy IV- Tried to like this one but those constant random battles drove me mad. The music is great though.

I'll post some more if I can think of any.

Except none of those games are remotely like Gears of War. I'll be back with better comparisons when I'm not dirt tired. Maybe it's just not your style, you know?

Maybe that's why I said it in the first place? It's a terrible, overrated game. When you think of Xbox 360 and "good games" they'll say "Halo, Assassin's Creed and Gears." There's no debating.

BTW how his Warhawk no where close to Gears of War?

Oh, yes. I second Gran Turismo. I've never been a big fan of hyper-realistic racers. I'll stick to Rush 2049, thanks.

I agree with DK Country Returns...fantastic reviews but I found it bland and uninteresting (tried co-op and single player. Wario Land Shake it was better...but nothing compares to SMB games imo.

I also agree with Gran Turismo. Reminds me of back when Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were all the rage in arcades...I enjoyed SF but hated MK primarily due to the digitized characters. Just a preference though.

I think of Advance Wars and Fire Emblem (my favorite srpg) as simple strategy due to the lack of strategic depth imo. Fire emblem gets some more depth from character interactions and and character development and good stories but not to the strategy layer. Don't get me wrong, I love both series (in fact, I have kept nearly every one of both of those series in my collection)...but there is no way I would call either strategically deep or grand.

to be fair, I changed my post to say DK Country Returns...I haven't played the SNES version since way back when...I didn't like it then though and after playing DKCR, I don't have the motivation to try the old one again. The platforming seems bland and the controls feel slow and odd to me for some reason.

NOTE: not bashing the game...it's obviously got a great following, sales, and reviews...just not for me

But I love bananas

Another one I agree on. I played every version and didn't enjoy any of them. Keep getting sucked in to try it after all the great reviews. I'm not much of a fighting game fan, but I do like Street Fighter games.

Honestly the only thing good about DKC is the art. By art I mean graphics and music. It IS pretty shallow gameplay-wise. Miyamoto dislikes it, and I can understand why. I personally like it because art is a huge part of games for me.

for those who hate fps games just because they don't like the fact that it is all on Sony and Xbox, keep your mind open. I really have a large range of video game genres that I enjoy. Don't just hate a genre because it isn't on your system or you don't like one. I hate Bioshock, but I love to play co-op with my friends on Call of Duty.

I like these games but I hate all online matches. Usually it's some jerk who's level ten prestige and you don't play that often, and they mow you down as soon as you respawn.
