Topic: AVGN A Lost Internet Hero?

Sometimes his skits get pretty old. I remember the first review I saw being the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles review. That was all aces for me. Not so much the Bugs Bunny garbage.

I have played, and beaten, Ninja Gaiden many times, and consider it one of my favorite NES games. It's exactly as hard as he made it look, he nailed it perfectly. One of his best videos yet.

It may even be harder. The game is purely sadistic. Rich in story, and you're rewarded for your hard work, but holy jumping Jeebus on a Triscuit ... it took me a couple YEARS as a kid to beat it.

Sometimes his latter-day videos try a bit too hard, but I'd say he still has more hits than misses. I'm glad to see him maintaining such a high quality level after so long. Some of his more recent reviews (though by no means all of them) are among his best. Like Little Red Hood, Super Pitfall, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, Transformers and Terminator. All great ones.

Doesn't he see him self as a filmmaker rather than a reviewer? I think I heard him say that once...could be wrong though.

i liked AVGN when i started watching him about 6 months ago. i watched all his old reviews over a course of time and thought he was great, but now that ive caught up to the present, he's gotten a little boring. though i did like the newest Ninja Gaiden review, that ninja was just really funny to me

the HVGN is boring to me because he doesnt have any standout qualities, he just reviews games in a normal fashion.

lately though ive been liking NC the best. his reviews are actually going up in quality lately. i do think he overuses some of his jokes and i do think he does some annoying gimmicks (The Good Son review for instance) but mostly hes funny and thats all that matters to me

I like him, but I wish he wouldn't puke and crap everywhere.

He only does it about one in every ten episodes or so. But its so outrageous its what he's most infamous for that some people thinks he always does it.

I think the problem with all these reviewers like the Angry Video Game Nerd is they all cover Ninja Turtles, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters and Transformers - every single one of them. I know they're a part of their childhood but it's starting to make me dislike the 80's - like there were only these four things that were cool and I'm just finding it so dull when another reviewer brings up Turtles on the NES.

Saying that, though, I really do enjoy the Angry Video Game Nerd's reviews. Especially of the more obscure titles and consoles that I've never played. I wouldn't really class him as a reviewer, though - he points out how ridiculous some games are in a humerous way and gets you thinking about why the developers made them this way. There's a lot more quality in games these days - it's a safe bet that if you buy one you can finish it if you put enough time in. However back then, some were just plain impossible and unfair.

Long live the nerd.

AVGN is just as good as he has always been. I think the people that think he has gone downhill are people that A. don't like things once they become popular and B. didn't grow up with the games he is playing. I was a kid and played most of the games he has reviewed so maybe I have more of a connection to him? Sure, some episodes are weaker than others, but to those of you that want him to "make better jokes", let's see you come up with a new game review every month all the while having fresh and original jokes every episode. It's probably not that easy...

By producing AVGN videos less frequently, I will be able to keep the quality up, and save the series from becoming a routine and an obligation. I will also be able to put more time into other things such as Board James and other projects that have been on halt.

Just watched his newest video on GT. It's pretty cool. Never heard of those games or the contest, but it sounds very cool.

As soon as I heard about the contest on the video, I knew they wouldn't give away all those prizes before he explained what happened.

I thought Swordquest was a big let down review wise and more of just a mini-documentary, it didn't belong with the AVGN stuff. Same goes for the Pong Consoles reviews. Neither seemed to be AVGN standard and I really hope his next video is an actual AVGN episode about a bad game that he reviews and actually makes an attempt at comedy!

The AVGN is just not as funny anymore. The last time I really laughed hard was months ago.

The funniest parts were always when he started to utter almost poetic lines of foul words. He used to do that often in the first few episodes but almost not at all nowadays.

I still quite like AVGN, it's informative and humorous most of the time, but I can't help but like his other stuff better, like Board James and movie reviews.

I dont think the quality has degraded. His episodes have always been ups and downs for me. I really like that he sometimes look into old gaming consoles, like his latest episode on Pong consoles. You can tell he really likes these old consoles, and he is not bashing them because they are old, but has valid points on why they suck. But the swearing is not that funny anymore.

I think he's had the odd dud, but the overall quality is still excellent. The Ninja Gaiden and Godzilla ones were classic. I could do without all the toilet humour as well, but I still look forward to new stuff from him. Now I just need to buy the DVDs!
