Topic: Atlus Fan Club

Big, big Atlus fan here. I loved SMT III: Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Survivor (finished it 3 times!), Etrian Odyssey 2 and Persona 3 FES. Currently sporadically playing through SMT: Strange Journey, Persona 4 and Persona 2: Innocent Sin. I also have Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon lined up. (How's that for a long game title!)

Not to mention all their other great games, like Trauma Center 1 & 2, Trauma Team, Knights In the Nightmare, Riviera: The Promised Land, DoDonPachi, Ogre Battle 64: PoLC, Tactics Ogre: TKoL, Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth, Disgaea, SkyGunner, Odin Sphere, Baroque, Eternal Poison, Touch Detective 1 & 2, Dokapon Journey, The Dark Spire... An enormous portion of my recent game purchases have been Atlus titles.

@Objection_Blaster @Mickeymac I can understand why Digital Devil Saga doesn't appeal to you, but I found it to be an excellent game. It's extremely atmospheric, has a great story, great music, and the battle system and mechanics are way more lenient than SMT III: Nocturne. The only reasons I can see people not liking it are the slow start and the sometimes-lengthy dungeons with random encounters. Also the noticeable lack of emotional response in the story and characters - which is actually intentional and there for a reason.

@Mickeymac; Atlus has stated that VC releases aren't really an option due to licencing issues. Most of the games they localize are developed by other companies, after all. It really stinks, but what can you do?

@Adam: Interestingly, I found Etrian Odyssey to be the most accessable game of its kind (that I've tried, obviously). It's no pushover, granted, but I wouldn't call it "brutally unfair and unfun."

COTACT is still my favorite DS game! Atlus rules.... Demon Souls FTW!

I didn't like that one very much, actually. It was quite disappointing. The story seemed interesting enough, but I really couldn't stand the battle system.

I <3 Contact! The story was really cute, with some nice art to boot. The battle system was basicly the same gameplay from any western RPG, so I was pretty used to it by the time I played it. In fact, it's one of the few western-style RPGs I liked.

I don't play many Atlus games, but I liked Draglade. It was a decent little fighter. If only they would localize the sequel.

3D Dot Game Heroes is the only thing I've ever played from Atlus.

Had to pull this one up. For those here interested, the hard to find Atlus DS game Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, the one that was only being sold on Amazon for the longest time is now in Gamestop. Its a incredible DS game and worth grabbing. I got the Limited Edition Bundle with CD in perfect condition for $14.99. I would grab them soon too, cause I read back at release that there werent many copies made, wich is a norm for Atlus

I already got a copy at Gamestop ages ago. Just saying. It was pretty hard to find, though.

I got Knights in the Knightmare and loved it to the end
I might get Etrian Oddysey III as I love hard games and that art book makes me hot

I just borrowed Demon's Souls recently. It's unreasonably difficult. I can't even pass the beginning part of the damn game.

@Mickey.... the Gamestop that my buddy manages is only got the game in the last 2 months. I tried to get the game at launch and it sold out on Amazon and literally forgot about it, as hardly anyone reviewed that game. I literally about hit the roof when I saw it this weekend.

@King.... ONLY do the first part of each portal. Then go to the second parts, etc. That will help you out a whole lot, as the second part of the first level is insane hard if you havent leveled up a good bit.

I played only one Atlus game, and that was River City Ransom for the GBA

Real fun game, and you can make your own Fighter too.

@Kingbuilder: Having put in quite a lot of time on Demon's Souls, I can truthfully say that if you find the game unreasonably hard, you're doing it wrong. The game is actually extremely fair, but it does require you to be very deliberate in your actions in a way that no other game I've ever played does. It seems at least half of the people who've ever played the game have your initial reaction, including a LOT of the reviewers, so don't feel bad...just try again! The game's awesome, seriously.

@JumpMad: That's far from typical Atlus fare...they probably just localized it because nobody else wanted to, just like they (inexplicitly) brought us Bomberman Land Touch. Atlus' primary genre is niche JRPG.

I just landed Draglade for DS for $5 USD on ebay Makes me happy lol.

I went looking for some DS Atlus games at ToysRus but they had like 3 on the Wii and they were overpriced. Great sale but no Atlus games so I ended up grabing Fire Emblem Steal Princess, My World My Way, Knights in Knightmare, Rondo of Swords, Luminious Arc are becoming a little hard to find and not overpriced.
