Topic: Anime & Manga (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

So, I watched the first 3 episodes of Angelic Layer, and...well...I'm not really sure. The first thing that I noticed was the fact that it kind of looked like something from the late 90s, which is ironic considering that the show first aired in 2001. And then I started noticing the humor which I just didn't like. While I didn't want to murder said humor with a butcher's knife, I just didn't find it humorous, which is a bit of a problem when it's supposed to be humor. I guess one of the reasons I tolerate it is because the main character doesn't really connect with the joke-machine of the series, which makes the humor for both viewer and character occasionally weird and out-of-place. As for the action, it works...I guess. I mean, I know that it's the beginning of the series and the stakes are pretty low, but the fighting itself isn't extremely exciting to watch. I don't know, maybe I'll see more episodes and enjoy the series.

I haven't seen Neon Genesis Evangelion, so I can't comment on Shinji there. But I liked the character in the reboot films save for one complaint - he does the same little song and dance every. single. time. he gets near an Eva.

"I can't pilot that!"
"I don't want to pilot that!"
"Oh god everything is so cruel..."
"OK fine I'll pilot it."

Which was probably fine spread across episodes, but by the third time in the same movie, it starts to grate a little.

I watched the whole series in a week and it got very tiresome. I think by the time he'd said it a few times I was already thinking "pilot the f*****g eva, you f*****g idiot!!"

I started watching the incredibly high-rated The Twelve Kingdoms (Juuni Kokuki)... has anyone else seen this? The first episode bored me to no end. I hope the pacing picks up quickly cause even with the promise of epic arcs with masterful writing, i don't know how many plain and boring episodes I can see.

Some of you may know of the newest Digimon anime trilogy, Digimon Xros Wars. Here's a bit of interesting news;

Some of the previous season's main characters will return in ... Also, the director of Digimon Tamers, Yukio Kaizawa, will be directing the final season of the trilogy.

While this probably will lead to the butchering of old, perfectly fine characters, there is only one reaction I have upon hearing this news;

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! WOOOOOOO!!!

Anyone know where I can watch Welcome to the NHK? I'm desperate to watch something new and good after Durarara!! and Toradora.... DX

Welcome To The NHK is awesome! I don't think we're allowed to post links though. But just google "stream welcome to the NHK" or something?

Thankfully, Hulu has all 24 episodes of the show of which you can legally stream right here.

EDIT: Also, I've been meaning to get to that series for a long time. Once you're done, come back here and tell us how it is.

EDIT: If you get the Stealthy plugin for Firefox, you can watch Hulu stuff internationally (or indeed anything that's region-bound). It's not 100% legal per say, but I doubt you've got a more legal option outside of US.

Just finished watching The Black Butler and it was pretty alright. I'd give it a 6/10. Some of the episode ideas were dumb (I mean a spice in curry that turns you into a zombie? Really?), the voice acting was like nails on a chalkboard, and the catchphrases were overused and terrible. Other than that, the animation was pretty good, some of the fight scenes were pretty cool when they weren't talking, and a few sections were actually pretty good. (The puppet episode was pretty damn cool).

I'll probably watch the second season when it is released in America. :3

....... Master of Martial Hearts........ I just had to watch that......... sniff.

@Crystalking18 I haven't even watched the anime and I feel so sorry for you. Also, how far did you get? I hear the ending does a complete 180 and ends up being extremely dark.

That's the first I'd heard someone say they had to sign up to watch it. Normally that's just for Hulu Plus.

Oh, apparently Welcome to the NHK has mature content and requires me to register. I'm reluctant to register since I don't actually live in the US...

It didn't make me register. It just made me have to tell it my age.

EDIT: Try going it via Anime News Network, that's how I always watch them, since the website has a far better format.

Ok so i havn't visited this topic in a long time since i hav'nt had time for anime! I recently signed up for net flix and just put a bunch of shows in my to watch list. I remembered that some of you guys here liked death note so i watched the first episode today a really liked it. Question Is 36-37 (cant remember what was the last one) episodes the whole series or is there more. I'd hate to get into a series and not be able to finish it.
