@NEStalgia Hm, odd. If you look it up on forums or Xbox One related YouTube channels, all advice the NAT to be open, not moderate. But mine was restricted initially, so I had to do something about it, and that is what I came across. And I have those ports dedicated to Xbox Connect and Xbox Live (those are standard, existing labels found in my modem by default) and they work for both the 360 and the One, so I have no issues with only one of them being able to use those ports.
And obviously, I'm only using one console at a time anyways, so that's probably never going to be an issue.
And so far, I haven't been attacked or DDos'ed, and the ports of the Xbox 360 have always been open, so apparently, I'm not interesting enough for hackers or pirates...
But I'll look into it anyways. I never exclude anything, so you might have a point, but I will need to know what the difference is going to do to my online multiplayer, or even just my online presence alone. Now, everything works perfectly, so if going back to moderate is going to have a negative impact on that experience, then I rather leave things as they are now.
Never made use of the DMZ, though, and I never will. Even for me, that's one leap too far...

PS5 shouldn't come out that soon, if PS5 is actually supposed to be a worthwhile upgrade tbh. Unless they've found a way to make VR worthwhile to the average consumer with it, I feel like it's not gonna do enough to feel like a new console.
@FragRed Yeah, that timeline sounds very believable to me. Technically I think 2020 still may too soon for it to not suddenly look obsolete. But I do think it makes sense in that timeframe. Unless, again, PS4 isn't going away and the next model is just an even more superpowered version. Sony said they wanted to move away from generations. Microsoft seems to be doing that. I don't think sony has the nerve to follow through. But they did intend to be that way.
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, that's one of those old urban myths that started in reality in the dark ages of "more than 8 years ago" and got legs of its own. Back then it really was true. Back then people didn't have 20 devices that need NAT and beige box PCs in towers were still everywhere, and UPnP wasn't so hot on most home routers. Today, port forwarding really doesn't need to be (and shouldn't be) used unless you absolutely know you needed it for some special reason. (Server rooms are another story when you need specific ports to go right to one server/cluster/subnet 100% of the time.) Back in early x360 era, if you didn't have "open" meant you couldn't be the P2P host. No open port. That was the real issue. But, yeah, if you port forward that's the only device that can use those ports. Forward the ports a Switch uses, and no other Switch in the house can communicate. With type B/moderate, you're NATing, so a dozen switches can play fine. Those glorious pay-for XBLG/NO/PSN servers handle the tunnel allocation. That's probably part of why they all started charging. P2P wasn't just a text list of available hosts but connection management too.
Restricted, is another issue though! That means things aren't getting through your NAT to your console inbound...I.E. the NATing/UPnP-ing aren't actaully working all the way through, or your being NATed with carrier grade (non-traversible) NAT by the ISP. Oh boy I went through such a mess with that last year....
If it's working for you, "don't change horses in mid-stream!" It's always more trouble than it's worth. Competitive games (Splatoon, Smash, Halo, etc) tend to draw the attackers. Particularly at high ranks.) I had my 360 and PS3 forwarded from back in the stone age.
Yeah, DMZ has....very specific uses. And on some routers it doesn't even work. I usually use it to just forward everything through an ISP router to my good one, so theirs is little more than a switch.
@NEStalgia For Sony, I actually think sticking with generations (at least for the time being) makes more sense than going the Microsoft route of iterations. Sony knows from 3 out of the 4 past console generations that they can build up a massive lead over their competitors out the gate and keep it going. I am sure Sony looked at that data and decided that maybe it's worth perusing this model until such a time it becomes no longer viable for them. It certainly works for them right now.

@NEStalgia Well, opening up the NAT was pretty easy, so if going back to moderate has no ill effects for me, and it is equally easy to do, then I have no problems with it, especially if it is better, so like I said: I'll look into it.
Anyway, back to E3. Perhaps we better bump the rest of this to our Xbox 360 discussion, that is: if you have more to say on it...

If they do reveal new games they won't release within a year anyway, since they have a enough big games lined up for next year already (Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, TLOU2, Death Stranding). And that means certain people will complain about Sony showing the same thing next year
They left Days Gone and Concrete Genie out on purpose, so they could have shown more games if they wanted to. Anything Japan Studio is working on will be revealed at TGS, and I guess they're saving something for PGW or PSX too. Still, this doesn't mean they cannot tease anything, or announce a new game. I expect From's new game for example. We could see Bluepoint's new game too, or that Medievil remake. Thinking about it, Concrete Genie is still a 2018 game, so I expect we'll hear more about it at E3. The same is true for Dreams. Maybe it just means that each of those four games will get a big meaty 5-10 minute gameplay trailer.
If the PS5 is 2019, it makes sense considering the PS4 is six years old by then. However, it wouldn't surprise me either if they saved the PS5 for 2020.
Sony acknowledged that they revealed some games too early. So maybe all of this isn't a result of the PS5 coming next year, but just Sony changing their strategy a bit. Going more for a Nintendo strategy, reveal and release within the same year, or within 18-24 months in Sony's case.
I feel like we're still about a year away from being able to be impatient for FF7. Knowing Square, you gotta wait like 3 or 4 years before you can realistically expect the game to be done enough to properly show off and market.
@FragRed Yep, I think they'll do that too. They said at first they weren't going that way, but I think X1X releasing when it did cleared that path forward for them at least once more.
@Octane The trouble is a PS5 now (or next year) would look more like "a somewhat more powerful X1X that plays Sony games". There's no pending computer revolution at that price point in that time frame. In some ways MS bought sony the years it needed. Are studios really clamboring for more powerful hardware? It's mostly only visual detail holding back somewhat from PC versions with the X1X. PS4 Pro isn't THAT far behind. An arms race every other year for more power won't help them build generations. I think they'll sit on this gen a while until a worthwhile upgrade fits their price targets. Nobody wants to go PS3 $600 LOLWHATIDK again. X1X did almost that....
@-Green- yeah after the big reveal they talked about episodic. And then all interest vanished.
@-Green- Yeah, it's going to be episodic, with each of the original discs being a different game I believe? So yeah, I'd wager it'll be another... 10 or so years until the game is fully released.
@NEStalgia Very true. Looking at the GOW sales, software has yet to see its drop, so they're probably safe keeping the PS4 around till at least 2020.
And diminishing returns. Considering publishers are already complaining about the rising costs of game development (actually, only journalists talk about that), I don't even want to know how they plan to monetise their €500 million budget games with ultra realistic graphics nobody asked for!
Keep the PS4 around for as long as they can I'd say!
@link3710 It will no doubt license Capcom's Deep Down engine for the final build.
@Octane More powerful consoles won't really cost the publishers more for development - they're already making those ultra realistic graphics for PCs. But it doesn't really gain anything for them either. The traditional console push from publishers was because consoles were such a pain to develop such low level optimization for and were always so far behind PC. Now that they got the consoles to be x86 PCs with decent power relative to PC....I can't imagine them pushing too hard.
The other part came from retailers pushing hard for new consoles to gain interest. But now that digital games are rising, I doubt the console makers feel the push from retailers to be as important to them now. And they're still moving a lot of SKUs. The only thing holding current gen back now is going to be the PS4 Slim, and to a lesser extent the 1S. But I imagine both MS and Sony would rather everyone feel the need to buy a Pro/X first before convincing them again to buy a 5/2.
@andrew20 It's highly likely we will. I can't imagine E3 will pass without some sort of mention of Megaman 11, considering it's due out sometime this year.
I have a feeling Retro’s mystery game will be announced at E3. We only have a month to find out! Whatever it is, I have a feeling it’ll be investigating a genre Nintendo doesn’t usually dabble in.
@shadow-wolf Here's hoping you're right. We can't quite rule out that it's simply going to be a third DKR game. And as much as I'd welcome that as well, I most certainly wouldn't mind finally seeing a new IP from them. They can always do DKR 3 after that...
