@-Green- Showing only 4 games, all of which we knew about, two getting gameplay reveals.

And I thought E3 2017 was just a repeat of 2016...this is....discouraging. Boy.

Well, GG to them, have at it Xbox and Nintendo.

@MarcelRguez According the PSEU they ARE doing a conference just with a heavy focus on those 4 games.

@-Green- Wait, where did you hear that? Last I heard, we didn't know either way if they would or not.

@YummyHappyPills And to think that earlier in this thread, some people made some overly optimistic predictions showing that Sony would reveal/discuss the most games of all three...
Some even suspected Microsoft only showing that total number of four games that Sony is now apparently going to show.

I wonder if that was some outright Sony fanboyism or just people being naive...

@MarcelRguez It's the E3 2016 effect. You can show as few games as you want but its not a good look to be low on numbers.

Plus, after last year's conference from Sony being decried as just E3 2016 again, this wont go down well.

When I said traditional I meant by Sony standards. Where they do big spectacles on stage w/ orchestras and people hanging from the ceiling.

I thought that was gonna be their shtick.

I don't get it? They have those four games, but they also said to expect announcements from many third parties. Not saying it'll be substantial, but it's clearly not just those 4 games in their conference. Not that it isn't disappointing to me either way.

And we all know how Sony enjoys a great deal of third party times exclusivity contracts.

@MisterPi The confusion comes from the fact that this was first announced in a podcast where they said there wont be third party announcements, instead those will be elsewhere, but now the PSBlog contradicts that.

@YummyHappyPills Ah I see. That is pretty confusing. They gotta sort themselves out, then. At the very least I hope they do the theater thing again, just for the store credit they hand out

@MisterPi Yeah, the only consistent line is that the 4 games will have lengthy showings which means yes, for the third E3 in a row we get a nice long look at Spider-Man.

I'm thinking its gonna be a 4 act thing, with third party deals acting as filler between each. Just as long as the pacing isn't absolute ass then it shouldn't be too bad. Its just hard to be excited when we know everything going in and a quarter of it we are sick of seeing.

From what I just read, it sounds like the only 'tradition-breaking' is that they're announcing what known games are going to be there. A small preview, if you will, of what to expect. In no way is it suggesting that's all that will be there.

Honestly that Sony announcement makes PS5 for 2019 seem all the more likely. Tease at either an early 2019 event like the PS4 reveal or PSX 2018 while the known PS4 games acts as filler until PS5 launch.

@ThanosReXXX "Open" NAT isn't really of much important these days. Moderate is normal (Or B on Nintendo.) "Open" (or "A" on Nintendo) means there is no NAT at all. When you port forward everything you're forcibly directly all traffic through those ports directly to that device (meaning any other device trying to use those ports CAN'T. That also means if you have two of the same console in the house, only one will work since they both need the same ports (DEFINITELY won't work for Switch or PS as there are two of each in the house.) That also means the device is effectively not behind the firewall, if all ports are forwarded. Not quite as bad as putting it in the DMZ where ALL traffic hits it, but still not ideal...the router should take the brunt of any incoming attack, not the console, and especially not a console running Windows. (And yes, people attack gamers. I know of a few Splatoon 1 (WiiU) diehards that monitor their traffic, and yes, people were trying to DDoS them when they were winning. It was targeted right at the console's ports. pro/competitive leagues often use VPNs for that very reason, even with the latency hit its better than the latency from DDoS cheaters.)

Moderate just means NATed, which is the desired result. At the start of last gen that would be sage advice. Matchmaking servers expected open ports for hosts on public IPs. Today the matchmaking servers allow passive hosting connections. Console connects to matchmaker, matchmaker determines who will host, directs other consoles to connect through the open tunnel, and then drops off (or doesn't if it's monitoring for cheating/state tracking.) The only real negative is if for some reason some game really wants an open port on a public IP, or any latency the NATing process introduces depending on router performance. I'm not quite MLG enough for that to matter, despite the blingy Razer controller

(Now beginning of LAST gen....yeah, you needed that port forwarding, in those wild wild west days. But this is 2018. Even Nintendo finally figured it out.....that's how old that advice is )

@Grumblevolcano If they're doing PS5 in a year, I fear it's going to be like the OG PS4/X1 all over again. Hardware released that's too conservative to not lose too much money that will seem too obsolete, too fast, with the real computing changes coming a year or two later. Unless PS5 is just PS4 Pro Plus with a new name and we're really ditching generations. They kind of need a new machine, they can't let MS get an edge over them at all. And yet....that seems like the wrong thing at the wrong time.

@YummyHappyPills So kind of like the current Direct format where a few games get a longer segment while everything else is a bunch of rapid fire headlines.

@Grumblevolcano @NEStalgia What I think is happening will be that the 4 main focused games is what little Sony has left being produced by first party.second party studios for the PS4. The Last of Us Part 2 will be the game that ends the generation with a holiday 2019 release. Then early 2020 Sony reveals the PS5 and it launches 2020 holidays with the E3 of that year being a full on first party and third party blowout.

With The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered as an early PS5 title.

That's assuming Death Stranding will be done in time for a 2019 release. I could totally see it being an early 2020 release on PS4 and then come out on PS5 later
