They knew they were releasing a new console years in advance though so I don't know what the excuse is for such bad planning. And we know there are other things that had already been in development, like Yoshi, Pikmin and whatever Retro is doing. So where are they?
If nothing new is announced in the next day or so, I think the reality is 2018 will have been one of the worst years for Nintendo first party ever. Which is a really bad thing to happen in the 2nd year of a new console.
So many people in here saying MS won E3. That's so sad. I agree, I think they did win, thats' why it's sad.
PS4 show was a disaster last night. Games are good yeah, well at least the 3 that will actually get made, but that wasn't an E3 presser any more than the Smash Direct was. At least MS had the decency to say " "Look we lost this gen, here's 5 companies we bought to make sure X2 has some games. And there's always Gamepass." Ubi had BG&E2, that will release some day next gen. Squenix was 22 minutes long, no FF7R and MS had already shown the KH3 trailer and TRE I believe. so forget them. I didn't watch Betsheda.
I think they should only have a new E3 every 4 years, that way MS, Sony and Ntinedo can plan their new hardware launches around those and we'll have plenty of games to see, some of which will take 3 or 4 years to release but that will be ok w/ an E3 only every 4 years. Sony and MS will probably both announce - though not launch - new hardware next year and show games on that we won't see for 2 more years, but at least we'll have something to watch. And Nintneod can show MP4, AC, B3 and Pokemon Gen 8, so it will be a god show for them as well.
Should have gone on vacation this week and just skipped the whole thing.
Someday we'll find it

The Direct added more questions than answered already existing questions. Like why is the Octo Expansion still "summer" yet the Xenoblade 2 story DLC has an exact release date and what does Switch have for August and September.
I'm torn on my final ranking for the conferences because while I'm disappointed about the lack of content for the Direct, what has been shown is very good. The Xenoblade 2 DLC trailer was my highlight for sure, really excited to explore Torna.
Well, at least Fortnite can be played with a normal headset plugged straight into the Switch, as the developers just revealed in the Treehouse interview. Saves the whole idiotic smart phone setup...
Wait really? A free game does what Nintendon't? Wonderful. /s
Welp getting this day one. I wonder if it is going to PC?

@Dezzy A big first party game every 3 months. Please tell me that was hyperbole. Do sony and ms put out a major game first party every 3 months. You are going all in with that unrealistic expectation.

@Grumblevolcano I'm kinda thinking that both Sony AND Nintendo had the same problem: going to E3 with not all that much new to show, which on one side partially caused a mess of a presentation, with horrible interludes, and on the other side something that could have been shown in a regular Direct, or in a Treehouse session. Maybe it's an Asian thing, then. That's another thing they both have in common...
@rjejr Yes, Microsoft won, BIG time, and I don't think it's just people on here. More and more media and YouTube channels are coming to the same conclusion, simply because it's the obvious truth. But I don't find myself being sad about that. Overall, I had a decent E3, with interesting games being shown by practically all parties, except some messed up the presentation. Some more than others...
Microsoft's and Bethesda's presentations were the best and most professional, Ubisoft had some cringe and some f-ups, Sony had even more f-ups, and less games, and EA, well.... they did have the titles, but their almost pathetic backpedaling on loot boxes and pay to win was already cringe-worthy enough in and of itself, and of course them once again failing to mention anything about their ahem... renewed "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo was yet another jab at gamers worldwide.
And with a CEO who's face and attitude can make even the most friendliest of friendly neighborhood Mad Titans want to crush his skull on the nearest curbstone, the battle is already lost WAY before it has even begun...
But as an Xbox One owner, there's more than plenty to be happy about. Phil Spencer was the one taking names this year, not Reggie. Spencer had an assignment, and he executed it almost perfectly. He could have mentioned waves 3 and 4 of the backward compatibility portfolio, but we already know that more is coming, because they have already confirmed this months ago, so no big loss there.
So, all in all, they are the rightful winners, and I really do feel that although it took him a while, that Phil Spencer has really done a good job of getting the Xbox brand back on track again.

Sony pretty much do, yes.
AAA exclusives in 2018: Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Detroit, Spiderman.
Not equally spaced throughout the year, but still 4 incredibly top of the range games. Not to mention games that are second party but exclusive to the PS4 by accident like Ni No Kuni and DQ11.
@CanisWolfred You know it is funny. When they showed that teaser for smash people would not shut up about it. They make the game this years holiday release with only a trailer and a 25 min deep dive and now Nintendo is tone deaf. I do very much understand that the those excited for smash and those not aren’t the same group but considering this smash is pretty much a fan service game and considering the number of characters it has, a short turn around time (of course they had wiiu assets to build from) and a guaranteed holiday game I’m fairly amused by the meltdowns. Then again maybe most of yall beat games every week or something. The year is pretty packed for the switch with some stuff early next year and I suspect we will seeat least two directs. So I don’t understand the negative reactions. It isn’t like ms and somy burn the house down every year. Although ms reduced some of my buyers remorse. Might upgrade to an x now.

@Dezzy Shadow was a port/upres. So you just want big budget games? Well that would require more than first party devs alone. Stll every 3 months is unrealistic as heck. And are you just counting this year? Because past sony years also have not done AAA first party every 3 months. Let’s not even discuss MS...

It wasn't a port at all. It was entirely remade with top of the line graphics.
I don't care what the budget is. I just want big epic experiences of some kind, like the 4 main games they had in 2017 (Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, Xenoblade).
3 months might be unrealistic every single year but I don't think it is for the first 3 years of a new console when you're trying to build an audience. Obviously in like the 6th year of a console it's understandable if they slow down a bit.
@rjejr@Octane Star Fox Grand Prix hasn't been confirmed to be a lie, come on now. Only thing we know is that, if it exists, it won't be coming this year.
@Dezzy Like I said, they never adapted to HD Dev. Ubisoft has a few over 100,000 employees cranking out the AAA factory line every year, PLUS the outsources. Nintendo (Takahashi sait something in in interview a while back about) has similar numbers to Ubi if you factor in all their outside contracts and such. I.E. core development is very low numbers of people, and they just map out other studios to hire to make portions of content.....that takes time. And the more bodies EA needs for Battlefront, the less have time to be hired by Nintendo, etc. They don't have the numbers PLUS they actually care about polish meaning things take a long time, versus, say The Division that hit it's target to fill the Ubi year.....then took 1.5 years of patches and addons to make people actually like it. Nintendo does the 1.5 years of patches BEFORE you give them money But it also means bland E3s for years.
Nobody has the content mill Sony has. Sony is a content mill. It's what they are. From film, to music, to television, to books, to games: Huge content production is more of what Sony does than Walkman. Both MS and Ninty can't keep up with their numbers, ever. And even Sony's running low on content finally Ninty has to pace themselves a few years to reload the barrels. Microsoft took 5 years to actually find the barrel, so of course it's loaded nicely. Sony's down to their last 4 barrels from the dozen or so they fired over the past 4 years.
I can't fault Ninty for being a little lean right now. But I do fault them for ignoring a huge cache they DO have by way of third parties. The next 6 months are loaded with good releases but they only highlighted 1st party games as though they're Sony. If Microsoft did that, E3 would last 15 minutes. They have to start thinking of their platform, not just their games at E3.
@Ryu_Niiyama "Do sony and ms put out a major game first party every 3 months. " Sony does. Microsoft puts one out every 3 years, does that count?
@ThanosReXXX Well Sony always copies Nintendo. Always has, always will. So since Nintendo spilled all their beans and went to E3 with no new games, so must Sony!
@Ryu_Niiyama Smash has a crazy weird EXTREMELY vocal fanbase for whome they believe it to be the showstopper of E3. And then there's everyone not part of that group that mostly couldn't care less. It's a cute game to pick up now and then. The pre-Smash hype was from that former group.
@Grumblevolcano i feel it was put in at the last minite it dose seam we might get a nintendo direct like in august for that and and the game with 2018 on them and no date some had fall on them and online sevice start. They put to much on smash i mean really to much they should use that on the other games

Well, Nintendo's E3 just significantly improved. Stealth dropping the Octo Expansion was a nice move, especially considering it's absence was one of the big complaints I saw.
