@link3710 There's a fair chance then that Wednesday and/or Thursday has other announcements.

2018 has been simply an atrocious year for Nintendo (for me. If you're one of those weirdly common people who buys a dozen indies every week and every single first party game and love them all, then obviously you won't agree). Chances are, the only game I'll be playing is Smash, which means it'll have been the first Switch game in over a year that I've bought. That's not good.

I hope 2019 will be better, but I fear that it's gonna be a Wii U situation where the system only really has a decent library of first party titles by the end of the generation. Maybe I'm an outlier here and the 2018 lineup has been great for everyone else, but for me it could hardly be worse. It's truly a PS4 year for me. I'll take games like God of War and Detroit over games like Kirby and a bunch of Wii U ports any day.

I'm just glad that I do have a PS4, because otherwise I would have nothing to play. I knew the Switch would be a secondary system for me, but I had no idea that it would be to this degree.

tbh, the last Nintendo E3 I genuinely liked was 2014. I never got the hype of last year's E3 for Nintendo, even as someone who adores Prime. A title shown does not win a conference, even if it was Half Life 3, sorry. But showing games we already knew clearly didn't hurt them then, so I don't think it really matters either way at this point.

To me, Microsoft is exactly what I want from an E3 conference. Can't believe I'm saying that, but it's really true. They had a lot of games, they were mostly showcased very well. There were some surprises, some of which people really, really wanted (even if a lot got leaked this year). There were a wide variety of games and wasn't just "these 5 games are the ones that matter, also here's 3 minutes of EVERYTHING ELSE I GUESS!" Honestly the only problem was Microsoft still focuses on games that are for an audience that is not me at all. And they bought more studios to address people's big complaint about them.

And for Nintendo, I get Smash is their big game, but even if they're just ports, at least TRY to hype up Dragonball Fighterz or Wasteland 2, y'know? Maybe try? Could you try? Effort? Please? Why wouldn't you, for what possible reason? Make people excited for more than 1% of the games coming to your console in the next year?

Heck they didn't even detail Nintendo online more. Does it have home sharing of digital goods and such like the other two? We don't know. Because they don't tell us what they sell, it just appears.

I think final rankings may be more suitable for when E3 is over, the Splatoon 2 news after the tournament suggests Nintendo may have further announcements for this week.

@CanisWolfred You know it is funny. When they showed that teaser for smash people would not shut up about it. They make the game this years holiday release with only a trailer and a 25 min deep dive and now Nintendo is tone deaf. I do very much understand that the those excited for smash and those not aren’t the same group but considering this smash is pretty much a fan service game and considering the number of characters it has, a short turn around time (of course they had wiiu assets to build from) and a guaranteed holiday game I’m fairly amused by the meltdowns. Then again maybe most of yall beat games every week or something. The year is pretty packed for the switch with some stuff early next year and I suspect we will seeat least two directs. So I don’t understand the negative reactions. It isn’t like ms and somy burn the house down every year. Although ms reduced some of my buyers remorse. Might upgrade to an x now.

It was poor presentation, plain and simple. They rushed the first half, to the point where you could blink and miss important info of some games, they could've presented more info on already-announced games - say what you will about teasers, sometimes it helps to keep up the hype. Metroid has a loyal fanbase, but it has kind of struggled sales-wise. Throwing a trailer together to show some progress might help more than...just kind of ignoring it until a few months before it comes out.

Overall, it was informal and would've felt like just another Tuesday if not for the post-Direct content, which is good and all, but really just had me scratching my head saying, "is that it?" Like others mentioned, it really feels like their line-up was empty outside of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, when I know for a fact that's not the case, they just did a poor job of showing off the full line-up.

I guess the best way to sum it up was this: Everyone else at least tried to make it feel like a special event. Some arguably overcompensated and wasted everyone's time (Sony), while others didn't have a lot to announce, but brought plenty of spectacle to make up for it (Devolver Digital). And why not? This was supposed to be a Mini-Xmas for us gamers, a prelude to the bigger holiday celebrations!

This felt like going to a staunchly Jewish family's home to celebrate Christmas. It seemed like I was the only one celebrating...

Looks like Microsoft won E3 for me, even with Smash Ultimate. Microsoft just showed off more and had some real cool announcements while Nintendo had Smash and focused on it a bit too much

Hmm anyone know where you can watch the treehouse content if you missed much of it? On yt it shows it as 7 hours from 2 weeks ago but if you play it it has 3 hours, all of it the Splatoon and smash tournaments.

Edit: maybe I'm just too early, they just posted the first 32 minutes half an hour ago.... Maybe they're breaking it down in segments and posting

I'd have to agree with them not presenting things well. The three indie titles got more screen time than Dragon Ball FighterZ, Wasteland 2, or ARK Survival Evolved combined. The former two should have gotten proper trailers at the very least, not a split second in a sizzle reel. Really weird pacing. Having the Paladins reveal trailer during the presentation would have also helped it I think. Push it out a few days if you have to.

Honestly it made the lineup look a lot weaker than it actually is. That being said, August/September are problem months. As far as major games go:

August: Okami HD, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
September: SNK Heroines, NBA 2K19, FIFA 19

Now, things like Dark Souls Remastered, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Valkyria Chronicles 4 should shore up those months a bit, but it's still a weak point in the lineup IMO. I should point out that August last year also only had two titles (Sonic Mania, Mario + Rabbids), but I'd reckon those are more exciting and look stronger than Okami and MHGU.

A Pikmin 3 or a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD would've filled that gap up nicely I think.

@IceClimbers I still don't buy it

Also, voice chat works on Switch like it's supposed to? That deserves a ''whoooo!!'' I guess.

I'm honestly expecting a Wii U port to be announced for September/ maybe late August at this point. Seems odd to me that they'd have no first party retail releases for two months straight. That said, last September proved how much it's likely to get flooded by 3rd party titles without release dates currently as we get closer, so it's really only August that's empty.

@kkslider5552000 Same. E3 2014 was fantastic. Last year was good but so little info was given about each new game that I just ended up not being super hyped. 2016 would have been great if it started with a Zelda Direct rather than going straight into Treehouse Live. And this year... I'm the least excited for the games shown here than any other Nintendo presentation since 2013. (That includes 2015...)

Well, other than Smash (and maybe Captain Toad), I don't think there are any more first party releases for me this year...

...luckily however, I am into the mid range budget Japanese releases, so between stuff like Ys VIII, Shining Resonance, Octopath Traveler , SNK Heroines, Okami, and the like, I won't have problems finding stuff to play.

2019 is sounding great though, assuming no delays (Deamon X Machina looks fantastic, and then there'll be stuff like Fire Emblem, Yoshi, and hopefully Prime 4). I'll agree that the presentation wasn't paced worth a darn, though.

EDIT: Not that it's a hype game or anything, but I was surprised at the complete lack of Go Vacation given Nintendo is on publishing duties for that one.

@NEStalgia Yeah, sure, that'll happen. At the same time when a really hot, non-existing place freezes over, or those fat, pink critters that we make bacon from, are going to fly...

As for the Treehouse stuff: was going to direct you to the official YouTube channel of Nintendo, but I see you already found it...

By the way, for those that didn't watch the Inside Xbox show yesterday:
Microsoft upped the ante by two more real exclusives, namely Outer Wilds and Vigor, both look interesting to me personally, so even more win for Microsoft...

Here's a couple of trailers:

Outer Wilds:

Vigor:
And if you also want gameplay and developer interviews, here's the entire Inside Xbox E3 special:
(The Vigor segment starts at 58m00s and Outer Wilds at 2h38m, but there's more than enough other interesting stuff to see)
And I actually just noticed how the Xbox E3 2018 sizzle reel's song is kind of a sneaky stab at Sony (I think) and at all the critics, and I simply LOVE it. Just listen to what she's singing...

@RR529 2019 is going to have Fire Emblem, Yoshi, Pokemon, and hopefully Metroid. It's already looking great. Also, I want to slap whoever scheduled Captain Toad and Octopath Traveler to release on the same day

Cyberpunk is a FPS rpg:

We really need to see gameplay of this. He does emphasize that it's definitely RPG first and shooter second.

And RE2 gameplay. Definitely gone with the over-the-shoulder camera, which I'm very happy with. They say it's only very loosely based on the original so it will feel like a new game to most people. I think that means the same characters and bosses but they've redesigned the world and changed the enemy placement to make it feel new.
