Retro's new game is probably going to be a brand new IP.
My guess is it'll be a 3rd person action adventure kinda game, maybe open-world.
It'll be rated T for Teen for violence and sexual innuendos.
The main character will be female and she'll prove to be very popular with certain artists and teenage boys.
@MarcelRguez If it's another Donkey Kong, there is going to be major backlash. Doesn't matter why it's taken so long to reveal anything, the fact it's taken this long and Donkey Kong is the end result won't go down well with most people.
But to be honest, all the details that have been coming out thanks to things liked Linked In/Job listings and taking on Alexander Brandon and I think a script writer was taken on too, don't sound like Donkey Kong to me.

@MarcelRguez This is the information I remember reading earlier this year about the script writer (not from the site I am using as source, think I initially heard about it on Nintendo Life) - https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/189706-nintendo-switch/7... I know Alexander Brandon joined last year which to me says the project is far along - isn't music one of the latter things done in game development?
I think Retro Studios only has one team don't they? Unless Nintendo has considerably upped the staffing numbers to do 2 projects at once, which I doubt.
You're right, the backlash perhaps won't be as big in terms of what happened with Tropical Freeze but at same time - 5 years and nothing to say, rumours of new IP, listing etc, and then it's Donkey Kong. Another 2D game in a year of 2D platformers on the Switch even if not releasing this year.

@MarcelRguez Actually, no scrub that - the backlash may well be just as big. The reason I say that is because Metroid Prime 4 was announced, but everyone was wanting it to be Retro Studios. Then they find out it isn't by them but some random new studio setup by Bandai Namco, who aren't known for creating these types of games... Donkey Kong may not be the best thing to then say "Here's our latest game".

@MarcelRguez I did not know they had that many people working at Retro Studios, or that they had collaborated with Nintendo on their own stuff.
I think best thing to do, assuming Retro does have 2 projects in development such as Donkey Kong and a new IP, would be to reveal the big new IP at E3 this year and then showcase Donkey Kong in 2019 when hopefully there won’t be as many other 2D games coming out from Nintendo.

@MarcelRguez I can see a new Donkey Kong game being pretty straight forward to make if they are indeed doing it as a second project as they have the engine running on Switch thanks to the Tropical Freeze port and a lot of the assets can be easily reused, or touched up to make the most of additional power the Switch has over the Wii U.
But to announce it so soon after Tropical Freeze is heavily marketed and released and between 2 other big first party 2D platform games to me makes little sense outside of appeasing the core Donkey Kong audience.

@-Green- Welcome to Unreal Engine 4. It will also offend you to know the physics simulation used for the cardboard bushes when you hit them is the UE4 default.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@YummyHappyPills From what you said about the physics, that sounds a bit cheap/lazy to me that they didn't bother tweaking them to suit the game. I understand what was seen is an early build, so I hope they have had time to fix these areas. Always thought it looked odd the way the cardboard bushes flew into the background.

Probably nothing impressive except corporate spin or they surprise everyone by bringing MCC to PC and making it actually good and fixing it so you can do matchmaking by game. Perhaps they will announce something about actually getting some good JRPGs on the console. Uphill battle but hey, GL microsoft.
Sony
Nothing much I know. They have great stuff and I think we will see some big stuff, KH3 for sure. I doubt they will say anything about a PS5 at all. I said I'd not buy a console from that generation, but I will probably buy a PS4 when its cheap and people are selling them off secondhand. But for now they will kill it this year I'm sure. Wish I knew more about PS4.
Nintendo-hard to say, they are the kings of unexpected. However I'm sure they will champion their indie dev friends. Ubisoft might show up again, after rabids and mario, I think they will announce some older games ported, black flag if possible would be rad. I think we might see something with Bravely default series be announced, either a sequel or a combo pack port of the first two games, maybe both! I think we will see pokemon outside E3, we never see pokemon at E3. But it will be around E3 at a special nintendo direct for sure, so practically E3. Metroid Prime 4 will get a reveal trailer, coming 2019. Maybe some Mario DLC could show up. The wild guess is perhaps a new zelda game, a style that would traditionally have been a gameboy/DS title. You know what I mean, the top down style. Just a wildcard guess there. Everyone wants a Majoras mask like sequel to Breath of the Wild though using the same engine and assets which has not been done since Spirit Tracks on the DS. I have a suspicion there may be a type of zelda collection or HD remake bundle of the two WiiU remakes of Windwaker and Twilight Princess since...ya know it was the WiiU. However most people think the zelda thing this year will be a port/remake of Skyward sword, which I personally doubt. Outside that we will get dates of games we know about. Octopath will get some attention. Regi will do something cringe worthy. Smash 5 will be announced, I'm calling it, this won't be smash 4. They will show off new playable characters perhaps, and announce even some potential LE smash 4 console, or perhaps the first set of joycon with logos on them, like those of characters or the smash logo. Everyone will be like "oh yeah there was a Yoshi game" and then forget it again. They will announce something unexpected, but not hated like a 2d mario, mario party, or some such game. We will get details for the online service and people will be sorely dissapointed to find yet still no cloud or local game save back ups, validating and rallying support to the hacker scene. However the online will probably come with a less obtuse friend system.
