Well I haven't even played the game for either platform but I hear some not so good things about when an Ipod game has touch buttons for the D-pad and other buttons. It may be 8 times the Ipod cost but if the controls in the IP version are totally busted(not saying they are just that they very well might be), then it wouldn't even be worth getting on that platform even for 99 cents. So if I were to get this game, and I have considered it, I would spring for the DSiWare version.
If you don't have issues controlling games on the iPod with the touchpad and buttons, go ahead and save yourself the money. Me, every time I push right, the iPod registers left, making the iPod version not an option for me... But that's my inelegant thumbs more than game design.
Seriously? I don't have the game or an iPod and I would snap it up at $0.99 given the opportunity. I really dislike how studios think that just because it's on the iPod App Store that the price should be really low, and then release the same product elsewhere with astronomical prices (in relation).

Actually, Nintendo gets to set the price from what I understand.
But anyways, if you don't mind spending more, go for the DSi version. Having a map is really handy.
what one should i buy. DSI is 8.00 and IPOD TOUCH is $0.99
Get both. $1 is at least worth a shot for a reportedly good game. Think of it as a slightly more than free demo. If you really like what you see, but you think you'd greatly prefer the DSi controls, get the DSi version.
Get the free version of Zenonia from the App Store, then if you like it, continue with it on the paid version. That's what I just did and I don't regret it at all.
I'm playing the DSi version now and never played the Ipod version, but god damnit! I don't mind level grinding in turn-based RPGs, where usually you have several party members to level up and all kinds of spells to cast, places to go, strategies to develop, etc. But level grinding almost from screen to screen when all you have to do is tapping a button to slash your enemies and eventually heal and eat is downright tedious. And this comes from a seasoned RPG player who loves the older games in the Dragon Quest series, for example, where leveling up was mandatory. The need to change ALL equipment everytime you gain 4 levels or so is also bothering me a lot. I usually stick to the games until I finish them, even if they annoy me a bit, but I'm seriously considering leaving Zenonia unfinished.

This.
I found Zenonia to be way too much of a constant exercise in repetition to be enjoyable. Way too much of go to a new town, find 5 new missions of "Kill X number of (insert monster here)", then go to the next town and do the same. The fact that each monster takes like 8-10 hits to kill seemed pretty excessive too... It didn't make the battles hard, just monotonous, especially since most enemies just kind of walk aimlessly and slowly waiting for you to attack. Then of course, there's the horribly translated script to deal with... I found that made the game hard to play too, because the dialog was just so bad.
