oh and by the way, i really love the game, but dont you guys think the vocabulary of adjectives in the game is a bit... lacking? they dont have the adjective "devilish" or "molten" or "atheist" or "bulgy". i can understand that adjectives can be harder to do because of gerunds, but still... anyway, the game is still awesome, regardless

Jeremiah Slaczka stated they left out a lot of adjectives that don't make any noticeable difference.

I've been away from the site for quite some time now (so busy between full-time work & graduate school), but have to return to discuss this game. I picked it up yesterday and haven't played around with it a whole lot yet, but I can already see the great potential for fun with adjectives.

My favorite trick thus far:

  • Create a magnetic man (or, if you're more cruel, a magnetic child or something, but the man is much funnier to watch, take my word for it)
  • Create a spikey metal ball and place it close by (important -- use "spikey" and not "spiked" -- I promise that it's funnier this way)
  • Watch the hilarious death unfold.

I think it depends on how much time you spent with the original game. The adjectives certainly add a whole new layer of possibilities that I'm having a great time exploring, but I already pretty much know the interesting objects I can summon from the last game, so it's not as new an experience this time around (that being said, some objects have been greatly improved even without using adjectives -- a genie, for instance, will now cast random spells on nearby people / objects and will spawn random items, and heavy things are actually more heavy-ish than before, a welcome change).

The controls are easier to use, but you don't necessarily notice because there are very few levels in which you need to get from point A to point B. They cut down on the action levels and went more for puzzles, which means that you very frequently don't move Maxwell much at all, you just spawn the right things (and there are also fewer total levels). I do wish that they'd included all the original levels as an unlockable, because I'd have a good time solving some of those with the new physics and adjectives.

If you played the original game to death, like I did, it does feel just like an expansion with more polish, rather than a whole new experience, but it's worth it. One of the great things about the original was pulling it out in front of friends to see what they come up with, and I'd much rather let them loose on this new version than the original, since nearly all the awkward issues with the first have been eliminated (and the title screen is much more fun now, easier to play with, etc).

I agree with warioswoods, pretty much everything that was wrong with the first game was fixed, and then things that didn't even need fixing were then improved upon.

I have the first game and plan to buy the next one. This seems even better, but GameSpot gave it a harsh review.

Not Official Announcement from 5th Cell*:

Are YOU excited for the new Kid Icarus game for 3DS but don't feel like waiting? Now you don't have to! You can just buy Super Scribblenauts! Simply spawn some wings, a halo, and a bow and arrow and give them to Maxwell! Then form a flying (insert something you want to fight here) and you can play as Pit without waiting! Go buy Super Scribblenauts now!
*Not really an announcement from 5th Cell. I just made this announcement up. But you can do this in the game.

I haven't actually played Kid Icarus so I don't know all the characteristics of Pit

Just picked it up: loving it so far. The puzzles aren't quite as interesting as the last game, but the sure as heck work a lot more consistently. The controls work well, too--another plus. The adjective system really adds a lot to the game (spawning an "ominous cave" really made me giggle).

I guess the biggest testament to the game's quality is that it can make me laugh like no other. And not just an internal giggle--a seriously big, LOL laugh. One of the challenges had you crossing an animal with a building. For some reason I typed in cavernous dog--thinking, of course, that the game wouldn't recognize it. I sure as heck don't know what a cavernous dog is. What does the game give me? A little puppy with a miner's hat on. Genius.

I just LOL'd from hearing you merely talk about that scenario. What a game.

The game truly is something special. I wish they would have kept the action stages, though. This game smartly puts restrictions on some of the levels. One of my favorites so far is in this prehistoric level with a bunch of dinosaurs. The challenge is "Make all the dinosaurs extinct, but don't use any weapons or asteroids". If they would have done some action stages like they did in the first game, but put some restrictions on them it would have made this one even better.

For example, whenever I was in a tough spot (or simply feeling lazy) in the first game, I would use Pegasus--you can ride it, and it can fly infinitely. If they said, "Do this level, but with no flying objects" or something, it would provide a real creative challenge. Of course you can impose these challenges on yourself--that's the beauty of the game--but it would be nice to see the developers pick up on it.

Sounds like I'm gonna love this game.
I even unlocked the Scribblenaut avatar in the first one.

@Anyone who's bought the game What's the level editor like? It is really flexible? If it reaches its potential it could be the best level creator ever! Just think about it, you could create almost any scenario.
