Spent over two hours with it so far...Amazing to say the least! I have been an on and off fan of the PhantasyStar series but I never had a change to play PSO but I did play PSU...I do like the idea behind it, to me, it seems to aim towards and MMO as far as character growth and challenge....I played the first quest around 7 times before I beat the stupid dragon...I like the palette system for attacks and techs...The battle system to me seemed a bit sluggish for the first 20 minutes then I found it to be rather comfortable...The graphics are stellar with a few slow downs when many enemies appear at once, but once the appear, back to normal frame rate...So far, the story, well, I am through 1 quest and working with the different characters...So...A word on characters, you can pick their head, hair color and clothing colors along with voice...It is really deep with weapons and armor...A real blast so far!
Vegeta: Just...just...transform damn you... Bulma: We are going to have a penthouse sweet...and he'll drive a corvet...and we will make love every single... Zarbon: (transforms) Bulma: KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Can any of you people with the game see if you can connect using WPA identification? Or any connection that would be in 'Advanced Connections' section of 'Internet Connections'?

If you have a DSlite or DSi you can connect under WPA, the original DS(fat) only uses the WEP protocol.
As a note, online runs really smoothly! I was skeptical after playing FFCC Echoes of Time, every time I played online, it was very laggy! Online is really strong for this one!

So, I just spent around 2 hours online and I have to say WOW!! To start with, you do get scribble chat with friends, but there is more. If you play solo on the WIFI connection, you can check to see if you have friend playing. When a friend comes online, you are dinged and a notification pops up. If you are playing on someone's game and you don't have everyone's friend code, you can ask them for it from the game. Excellent, excellent online support! You take your offline character online and you get to save everything. I have only 4 missions done, but I leveled up about 5 times online tonight and I have boosted my double blade around 40 times with the monogrider. If you see grinders, use them! I am so pleased and blown away by online! The game itself all in all is amazing and a total 10!

Great online features This is a must buy for me now. That, and the fact that there is a robot-like class.

Yeah, the CAST's rock, I am using a melee cast type, I was pretty much taking everything out online...

Story mode is okay, from the few missions i have played, the start a bit different but line up. 200 years ago, everything was erased...CASTs are waking with no memory, the world was destroyed but a few areas are inhabitable. You get 3 other NPC's, a Newman, a human and a CAST. There are 7 areas that are huge and each with a boss. You basically learn of the Great Blank and a few things and go about adventuring...That's all I have so far. It's solid though, the game play makes up for any short cumming. Get this, there is a trunk you can store items in, well 2, one for your character and 1 for all characters. So lets say you play and want to start a new character, leave your stuff for the new guy or girl...All in all, a solid game for the DS standards or even console standards. If you stack up the game play, the online, the fact you can play through pretty much as much as you want and give you new characters your items, basically Newgame+, the game is a gem. I wish I could tell you more on story, but I am just not that far. I look at this game as a "I like to build up characters and kick the crap out of monsters" type of game. I haven't really payed attention. HAHA EDIT: You will have to excuse my enthusiasm, this is just a great game!

So after all the rave reviews and comments I have made, I have found one thing that may be a negative point to the game, if you do free play online, from what I have seen, you go out in one area and you have to start a new game where as if you play with friends you can do quests and keep choosing new ones when you are done. As far as story, to comment now that I have worked through a few quests, the story is nice. The story revolves around the character you choose, a Newman, a Human and a CAST. The world was destroyed per say from PS0 and it is 200 years later. Newmans left for the moon, the CASTs went to sleep and are waking with no memory and the Humans have begun to rebuild the Earth after contamination has receded. Your character starts off, if you are human, as a Hunter and you are joined by a friend that is the other Human. You go about missions to clear Hostiles and you have side quests. If you play as a CAST, you wake up to a Newman girl that is another character in the party. You set out to explore the work and get your memory back. Along the way you find a CAST, well, a CAST head that is a hunter. Along the way you have to find him a body, from what I played, he plays a ranged combat CAST. I haven't played the Newmans yet. A not on items: Weapons consist of swords, blades, dualblades(A blade on each end of a staff), handguns, blasters, rifles, blaster rifles, gunblades, rods, wands, spears, knifes and spinners(throwing weapon). Each weapon can have elemental attributes. One thing to remember, make sure if you find any Grinders, use them. They boost your weapons. You can add elements to you weapons and once you max out your weapon with grinders, you can Photon boost them at the custom shop. Armor has the same features, you can boost them and add elements, but there are addon slots and the addons range from all the stats being boosted to different levels. Mags are a big part of the game as they act as armor and give you boosts as well. With Mags, you can grow and evolve them by feeding them items. Warning though, you can feed them anything but some items will have a negative effect. Also, some items will evolve the Mag and Mags evolve when your character reach certain levels. Drops: Sometimes enemies will leave drops, you can go to the sewers and a shop there will make weapons or armor from them. Sewers: Once you do the 4th main quest, the sewers are open, well, when you get the CAST his body. The sewers have a Photon trade shop, so do feed your Photon drops to your Mag. This shop gives out elements, Grinders and rare weapons. There is Drop forge as well, where you forge your enemy drops along with a Vending Machine. Vending Machine: You type in certain codes to get rare items. I will say we got ripped in the US due to the fact that in Japan, they get things like the Hylian Shield and Samus' Blaster but we get magazines, yes, magazines. There are a few items from other games though. I don't use them as I have a double blade that is +50 and it's damage is over 400. All in all, this is a great game and the Free Play online is not enough to break the online support. The items from the Vending Machine again does not break it due to the fact that I don't think the cool items are powerful enough to want to use them.
]Friend Code Warning!! If you get a friend code on one DS, it will change if you are on another, make sure you that you use your DS with you get your code!

So I have made it almost through story mode, the last boss handed me by butt! It has a great story line and you will find out why the Earth was destroyed, how it was destroyed and what the Great Blank is. It really rounded out the offline play and I find the story a boon to the game! I will say, when you think you are about to fight the last boss, and you haven't looked at a FAQ, you are not, there is another from and I think it would scare the hell out of ExDeath from Final Fantasy 5! HAHA
I was pwned big time on the final form, I have a level 30 ranger CAST with a +50 Photon Enchance double caliber with an attack of over 450 and a level 100 Mag that is great at support but also boosts my strength and def. Oh yeah, I am on regular mode. The damage was around 150 from these black orbs that spin around the boss and the boss' beam attack was around 350, yikes! I plan to level a bit. On the bright side, I found EXP material and my cast has X boost on the double caliber now and my new female human ranger has X boost on a chrome carbine and a gun braver. X boost will give you exp with an attack, so sometimes you get the exp while you are killing a hostile. It's nice, the human ranger sometimes will receive more exp from the boost than the kill. She is young and I am on the first area, but with a kill of 5 exp, the boost nets 12 sometimes!
Great game! The story cements this game as one the best on the DS in my opinion! The replay is infinite as you can feel that game is centered around character building and online, but the offline is strong enough to keep you playing with new characters. Plus with online solo play, heck, I'm not sure when I will take the game out! HA
