Haha, I was kidding, but The Last Story was a game on Nintendo's catalogue, and over here at NintendoLife, everyone's been speculating on what it might be, like the new Wii Zelda, or a possible Wii Star Fox, or a new series all together.

i feel like nintendo would piss off a lot of people if they did this...i mean the dsi isn't even a year old! i have yet to get one because i have been waiting for the dsi ware library to grow, so the possibility of a new dsi doesn't bother me at all (i would probably just get the current gen dsi now for cheap). still though... i really don't think nintendo would stick it to early adapters like that...

@cheetahman thanks for the link to this thread! your one rad dude fooooor sure

........Maybe it's the new Gameboy as promised when the DS Phat first came out?

nods head

The Game Boy line is supposed to be retired. But still, imagine if the NDS was the Game Boy DS? That would be new life in the Game Boy line! Too bad Micro flew under the radar as soon as it showed up.

The Game Boy line didnt retire, the last thing Nintendo mentioned about teh gameboy was part of its three point plan which included the home console, the gameboy and the DS. The problem with the original plan was that the DS wasnt expected to be as if not more popular than the Gameboy which is why they shelved the redesign they didnt shelve anything because of the DSi. But now that the DSi doesnt have the GBA slot they may go ahead and release what was going to be the next evolution of the Gameboy.

Yeah, exactly.... I have my doubts about any new handhelds coming out next year so soon after the DSi unless it was the promised third pillar of the next iteration of the Gameboy. When the DS came out, we were told that it wouldn't replace the Gameboy line.....

The Gameboy is long gone (but the games it played live on in VC and in our hearts.) Nintendo will never allow a current or future system to play those games because it would stint progress and staying "current" to the market and they would lose money that way. I think that's what this news item is trying to say is that while the DSi is as popular as it is, there will be no new system coming out, not for another few years, I think...

I just checked out your video today, Syl, for Pinball Pulse. Ditto on the idea that NintendoLife should add you on as a reviewer, I don't think they pay though. )

Thanks for keeping up the great work, Sylverstone!

I do think the Game Boy isn't all washed up just yet. The 20th anniversary just passed and the way I see it, the only way the GB can get it's "Last Story" [lol ] is if the DSi VC can be a reality [yeah right...].

Don't go changing the topic, though. I'm just sayin'!

FATEM

If they release a new DS I better be able to get my DSiWare onto it.

Thanks a lot, man.

And pay or no pay, as long as I do what I love, it will always be rewarding. I am aiming high though to go to NOA as an intern. (crosses fingers )

I seriously doubt that the GameBoy or Gameboy Advance lines will ever come back; but we were promised another iteration of the GameBoy following up the GameBoy Advance. I always thought that that was just a safety net just in case the DS didn't do well; but, since it did, Nintendo dropped any notions of reviving the GameBoy line.
However, I have serious doubts that another DS iteration would come out this soon after the DSi, even a DS 2. So I seriously doubt that these rumors are truth; but IF they were true, most likely it would be the promised GameBoy successor.

But, really, I don't see any need for Nintendo to revive that line. And sending out a successor to the DS this soon would be lunacy. So that puts this news story in the fairy tale sector for now.

I heard that Nintendo had actually created a better version of the DSi a few months into its initial launch but that they are keeping it under wraps to improve upon its specs and release it in a future date. Apparently the popularity of the DSi forced Nintendo to shelf the improved handheld gaming device to release it at a future date. Does anyone remember hearing about that? Not sure of the source but I did hear about it in mainstream Nintendo news outlets.

Yeah, but I thought it would be a whole new handheld. In the DS line but well farther ahead than the DSi.

Yeah, I it was a whole new system made before they thought of the DSi. They shelved it because the DSi was so popular. I remember being upset over every going out and buying DSi's when we could have had a whole new system. But ah well.

And I would laugh if there was a new system next year.

No, this news story is true. (Note: not the headline of this topic post but the actual news item I posted is true.. about their having a new system already completed but that it will sit on a shelf and gather dust until Nintendo thinks its time for a new handheld system.) Believe it or not, many companies often do that, create newer products with their R&D teams to see if it would or could be a future prototype or candidate for something down the road... As for me, I still have my GameBoy games and my original GBA so I am happy just playing the older games on those. I do think that the touch-screen ("gimmick") will probably run its course though very soon, within the next couple of years. In which time, I'm sure, Nintendo will have another "gimmicky device that we will all grow to love" up its proverbial sleeve.

The touch screen gimmick hasn't ran it's course yet? I never hear mention of it anymore, its just another button on the system as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah!

Hopefully I can meet some key peeps in the company: Reggie, Cammie, Denise and Bill. Show 'em a few Flipnotes of good video game ideas and other cool ideas for DSiWare! hyperventilates LOL

(Better slow down, takes deep breaths, baby steps....)

That would be great!

That bit about "doing what you love"... I can tell you that I know I am very many years older than you and you sound wise beyond your years when you say that... Doing what you love regardless of pay is the ultimate in job satisfaction. That's why I've been with Starbucks for so long! LOL. Can't live off what they pay me, but I love working there, and that's all that matters to me...

Ah, I see...

I had a thread in the Wii section about it! I pitched Star Fox but most people surprising pitched Golden Sun!

Well, I was talking about the news item in the OP, the one talking about a new handheld releasing in June 2010...... I'm sure Iwata has lots of ideas in the works and some working prototypes. These things take years to develop.

The touchscreen might run it's course as far as gameplay is concerned (although, several games use it as an integral part of the gameplay). But, if Nintendo wants to keep up the app aspect, which encourages the one DS per person rather than household thing, the touchscreen is here to stay; and I'm certainly happy about it. Makes web browsing and menu selecting and writing so much easier. The PSP's browser must be a pain just to input a URL, let alone any kind text replies that require more than one sentence or even clicking on a link.
