that would be just over a year after dsi was released. I would be mad if they did release another. Surely they don't need to remake the ds again, so if this is true, it would probably be a whole new system all together.

I heard that Nintendo had actually created a better version of the DSi a few months into its initial launch but that they are keeping it under wraps to improve upon its specs and release it in a future date. Apparently the popularity of the DSi forced Nintendo to shelf the improved handheld gaming device to release it at a future date. Does anyone remember hearing about that? Not sure of the source but I did hear about it in mainstream Nintendo news outlets.

That would be terrible. What, are they trying to be SEGA?

Yeah, but I thought it would be a whole new handheld. In the DS line but well farther ahead than the DSi.

The Game Boy line is supposed to be retired. But still, imagine if the NDS was the Game Boy DS? That would be new life in the Game Boy line! Too bad Micro flew under the radar as soon as it showed up.

The Game Boy line didnt retire, the last thing Nintendo mentioned about teh gameboy was part of its three point plan which included the home console, the gameboy and the DS. The problem with the original plan was that the DS wasnt expected to be as if not more popular than the Gameboy which is why they shelved the redesign they didnt shelve anything because of the DSi. But now that the DSi doesnt have the GBA slot they may go ahead and release what was going to be the next evolution of the Gameboy.

Ok here is the news item I was talking about:

http://gamerblips.dailyradar.com/story/nintendo_president_we_...
http://www.edge-online.com/news/nintendo-shelved-brand-new-handheld

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says the company recently decided not to release a new handheld gaming system, despite having taken the design to completion.

In an interview with CNBC, Iwata said the decision was made within the last three years, and also noted that it wasn’t the first time the company had made such a move.

“In the history of Nintendo there are several such examples," he said. "But when we are launching new hardware, the most important is thing is to sustain the momentum. If introducing new hardware won’t do anything to do that, well…"

Nintendo’s most recent hardware release, the third iteration of its DS handheld, has sold over two million units throughout Europe and the US in under two months.

Iwata also said that the company plans to address a recent slowdown of Wii sales by introducing strong new software rather than a console price cut.

"People often talk about the price cut as if it’s an almighty weapon. The fact of the matter is that what a price cut can do is rather limited. … In the long history of video games, at the time of the price cut we see a momentary hike in sales, but usually that can not sustain its momentum and it soon comes down to below the price cut level."
