What do you guys think about this upcoming Kingdom Hearts game? It looks like Square Enix made the battle system similar to Birth by Sleep's battle system, which is freaking awesome. Although the worlds seem to be the same, the gameplay looks fantastic. I'm also quite curious about the special gameplay modes that I have never seen in a KH game before [turn-based battles, side-scrolling, third-person shooting, etc.]. It's just so awesome we are getting two KH games so close together [BBS was released in Sepetember, Re:Coded will be out in January]. I am also curious to see the ties it has to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3DS game.
It think it looks pretty good. It seems to have a lot of gameplay variety, though I'm somewhat curious about the story. I have a feeling they never put much effort into that aspect, which is sad, since I love the stories they come up with in the other 3 KH Spin-offs (ironically, I don't care much for the story in the main games).
I just wanna say, I almost got a game capable phone just to play the original cellphone version of this game. I'm glad I decided to wait for a console/handheld rerelease.

lol, u crazy. I think I'll give this game a go, I'm kind of annoyed that the Nintendo platform entries have all rehashed the original worlds but at least this changes the gameplay up to make up for it. If KH3D just rehashes the world though I think I'll pass on it.

There are no Kingdom Hearts spin off games though. All of them advance the plot. Like if you didn't play Chain of memories before KH2 you wouldn't know whats going on. Besides im pretty sure spin offs mean that its something an extension of an existing thing. But CoM, 358/2 Days, BBS, and Re/coded all advance the same plot.

Yet no one had to play Coded to understand Kingdom Hearts 2.
Besides, I did play Chain of Memories before KH2. I still don't know what's going on. CoM mostly just retold the story from the first game from a different perspective, while introducing, but never fleshing out the Nobodies who become a big part of KH2. You didn't even have to play the First KH to understand CoM, since they retold enough to make you understand all that you needed to, but you did need to play KH2 to truly grasp and comprehend the story in KH2. Those are a true continuation.
And that's not even getting into Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days, which are practically self-contained stories withing the Kingdom Hearts universe. I haven't finished Chain of Memories, nor did I finish KH2, yet I understood the story in 358/2 Days just fine. In fact, what little I did play actually kind of spoiled too much, and some of the twists ended up not being twists at all. From what my bro has told me, Birth By Sleep is a similar deal.
From what I understand, Coded was a retelling of KH like CoM was, so I'm curious to see what it adds to the lore.

Um, coded is after KH2 in the Kingdom Hearts storyline, so nobody had to play coded to understand KH2. And people say that 358/2 Days advances the plot because it tells the story of Roxas, who was the mystery boy in KH2. And people say that you have to play CoM to understand KH2 because if you didn't play CoM, you wouldn't understand why Sora was in the mystery town in the mystery mansion in the mystery pod.
BbS isn't a spin off but the first chapter of the series and, IMO, could have been called Kingdom Hearts 3. And when/if KH3 comes out, you can be sure BbS story details will play a big part.
As for Coded, I'm getting it but I can't take much more rehash worlds after playing the amazing BbS...

Kingdom Hearts 3 is all I want, not Recoded, not 3DS, not BbS (which was at least decent but still nothing compared to the first two). No spinoffs, prequels, or card battling junk. I enjoyed the first two games but after KH2, the story became so convoluted and up it's own *** (but what else can you expect with Square-Enix trying to milk a franchise to death like they did Final Fantasy) that it's embarrassing to think these games could possibly be related to the first two KHs.

The story was already pretty uppity and confusing right from the get-go. Honestly, I've yet to see a cross-over where that didn't happen...

Yeah, it was a bit confusing but they really jumped the shark after KH2. I'm glad the story wasn't the usual mess that we get with fighting game cross-overs at least. Square-Enix added way too many characters in the later KH games that it became easier to just say "Huh?" and go with it instead of wondering where the continuity went, at least for me. Hopefully Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton will get the cross-over story right. If any two series can, it's those two.

I meant any cross over. I've never seen a game, book, comic, or movie cross-over that ever made sense unless they took place in the same universe to begin with.
With that said, I never found it hard to follow the plot in the KH games, it's just that it's a horrible convoluted mess that isn't really worth following. Luckily I like the characters, so I try to focus on that more and just "go with" the rest.
I enjoyed 358/2 It was an awesome game and so what about the story its about Game Play RIGHT? not the story

As an avid KH fan, I'm looking forward to this game, but not as much as I was looking forward to Birth by Sleep.
The gameplay looks excellent, and I like how Nomura and his team are trying different gameplay mechanics for the different worlds. The Deck Commands, introduced in BbS, are the perfect fit for not only this game, but for the franchise; I'd be legitimately surprised if they don't appear in future installments.
I've already delved into the story on this one when the cutscenes for the Japanese version hit the web, so I'm not too concerned with that.
