Anyone take the plunge on this? I'm reviewing it and just spend about an hour with it. I have a firm idea of the way the review will go, but I'd also be curious to know how others are reacting to it.
I'm enjoying it so far. It REALLY could have used a tutorial, but once I got it figured out it came into focus as a nice little variation on minesweeper. The look of it is pretty cool: everything is clean and easily read, with stars shooting from the cleared squares adding a bit of flair. It's also nice that there are various medals you earn for each level, giving you something to reach for besides simply beating the stages and maxing out your equipment. I'm still pretty early in the game, and the challenge is just starting to heat up, but at this point I'd say it's worth the price if you enjoy minesweeper. Like its inspiration, it's not going to rock anyones world exactly, but it's a fun time waster just the same.
hopefully a review soon... looks like a fun game (probally end up getting it either way) too bad i dont have a car tonight i would probally run up tonight and download it (Dont have wi fi here so i need to go to a hotspot to download games
hopefully my car repair wont be that high and we dont get wacked by the snowstorm so i can get to the hot spot tomorrow to download it..
wow should of waited for a review of this game... i think personally im done with DSIwere games until rpg games start hitting.. was thiniking this would been like mindsweeper (where you can place dots were you think mines are) nothing like that . Game really does need a tutorial, played it around an hour and tossed it on my memory card to be left behind just like six spin (ouch 2 500 pt games i thought i would loved but hated)
In fairness, slidecage, you can place "dots" on the squares you think fish occupy. (Not literal dots, but...same idea.) You do it by holding right on the D-pad and tapping the square.
...I know. It's unintuitive and clumsy. I cover that--and more--in the review.
I've only played the first few levels but it's already worth the 500 points. If you've ever tried to beat Minesweeper on expert in under 100 seconds, this is the game for you.
Tip: When your rod is equal in level to the highest fish, you can hit the victory button in the pause screen (instead of hitting every leftover space to complete the level). This is especially useful when attempting medals.
I picked up the game today and I have to admit that this is a good game. Also thanks to Chicken Brutus review the learning curve was a minute and the victory button tip was also very very handy so thanks to jdarrell too.
There are a couple things missing in this game. Most are minor. I think they need to add a record system to tell you your time. The star system is handy but I would like to know the time of my best. There also seems to be a big difference in speed between the hex and the square grid. For some strange reason I usually complete the Hex grid way under the gold star time limit where the square grid usually takes a couple more seconds then the gold time limit.
