I imagine once the last of the Smash amiibo are released it will start to decline.
Yeah, I agree with this. Once the Smash Bros. Amiibos are all finished, they hype for them might die down a bit. Unless Nintendo can continue making new ones for their series, they won't be selling well. I couldn't see Nintendo continuing to profit as much from having Amiibos for their smaller series; they'd have to continue making new models of pre-existing characters for their big series. They'd also have to introduce more content than they currently do, and hopefully not have their upcoming Amiibo cards suffer the same fate that the e-Reader cards have.
@Sergio191 Aww, that's not really fair! In truth only about half of them are actually difficult to find. Then nearly 30% may take a tiny bit of actual work to look around at different stores, and the rest can be found anywhere and everywhere.
You don't have to accept it. That's what customer service is for! But my point was that we make it seem like all Amiibos are impossible to find, when in fact, I took a quick look at the ratity guide and found that the only ones you have to get on eBay are the scalper targets. Ike, Rosalina, Wii Fit, Little Mac, etc.
As long as they keep selling. Even if you take away the NFC aspect, you still get a nice figurine. And seeing Splatoon getting amiibo may mean that some of their not so popular series may also get amiibo. Or the old "Capt. Falcon sells so people may want a new F Zero" approach too. People like collecting stuff after all (see Pokemon).
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

An Amiibo focused game is a no brainer, I just don't know why they haven't made it yet.
Because that isn't the point. Amiibo are supposed to be just extra features. They established that day 1.
And then changed it with Splatoon locking away large parts of the core game. (At least that was the impression given by the EU direct).
I don't see how those small challenges of popping balloons is a "large part of the core game"
Missions + Weapons (That presumably can be used online and as far as we know are not just different designs).
the Missions are just little challenges and the "weapons" are just clothes which I bet will have re-skined version with the same stats through normal gameplay. Lets not freak out until we have facts
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I'm sure it'll die a bit, people will be too irritated to go out of their way and it'll just become a game of luck for most in terms of what they can pick up. The only way it'll die off all together is if the fans buying the most wake up and find out they've bought 100 trophies all of which do essentially the same thing and that's not very much. But I still hold out that Nintendo will give us more to do with them over time or new series, or repeat waves of ones that sold out fast, in which game the hype probably will stay lukewarm for some time.
Literally I had a dream last night where I was with my cousins driving for some reason, and by where Costco usually is irl, they changed it to this weird junky Japanese store and it was like WE HAVE VILLAGER AMIIBO HERE. I can't believe I'm having dreams about this.
