@Rebel81 My box here in the UK has text in English at the top and then below the same text but in French, it's completely normal. Also, how did you pick up MK7? It isn't out until Friday. Although, I have already got my copy because I buy them to sell and therefore get them about a week early.
gamespot was pretty brutal about the 3D in this game. Does anyone have a different opinion on the 3D specifically? Is it really that badly done?
The 3D isn't THAT badly done. Basically, there's barely any 3D except for when your walking around and in fight scenes, otherwise there isn't any 3D which was the dissapointment for me. The only weird thing I've saw with the 3D is that when the characters speak there are speech bubbles. Now for some reason Namco decided to make the speech bubbles come further out of the screen than the characters, which just looks weird. To be honest I generally play the game in 2D, but it's still a great game, in my opinion an 8.5.

thanks for the description. Sounds like it might be the first 3DS game I actually turn the 3D off for too.

TBH it does make some of the environments look more appealing, and it's still better to have it on than off.
I like the 3D for the most part. Not really needed for most places and the text bubble thing can look weird at first but I like it now. The cutscenes aren't in 3D but that's understandable considering how much it would cost to redo them.

@MiracleBlaze In the Netherlands every store is afraid to be to missing sales, so Mario Kart 7 went on sale early in multiple stores. It's quite normal here even Skyrim went on sale early, and my 3DS system I also got day early.
Also thanks for the info, as I wondered if it there were different versions for European mainland and the UK.
@Rebel81 Oh, that's alright. I wish this happened in the UK, it seems to be commonplace in the rest of Europe. Don't they get fined though for breaking the street release date?
It sounds like the 3D could've been better but Gamespot are the only ones I've heard who thought it was that bad and surely it doesn't bring the game's score down that much as this game looks worthy of much more than a 7.
I've now bumped my score for Tales of The Abyss up to 9, reason being the music in this game is just so epic! Some of my favourite game music in a long time! Now I just can't stop listening to this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-AoP3NOja0&feature=related - all the time!

I know what you mean. I've tried not to spoil too much of the soundtrack for myself but I've heard some of the songs including that one and Meaning of birth has become my thrid fave vgm ever. That boss theme is just amazing!
the music being good doesn't surprise me if it's Motoi Sakuraba.
Motoi Sakuraba is my favourite game composer. Tales of Symphonia has my favourite soundtrack in gaming and I've heard music from many Tales games and love many of their themes too, the few Tales game with soundtracks from other composers also have great music like Tales of Legendia. Motoi Sakuraba did some awesome compositions in other games like the Golden sun series too.

I was just going to make a thread asking about this. If it's not really there I might just leave the 3D off, except during boss fights or something. That's assuming I get another job so I can afford it, since it's really the only game I can give up that's coming out soonish (I already have the PS2 version, but it's such a great game I wouldn't mind playing through it twice).
Also I noticed it's already sold out on Amazon UK. Can I assume it's selling well?
Still going to pick this up when it hits U.S. shores. Hopefully 3DS can be like the DS when it comes to RPGS. I'm playing Golden Sun Dark Dawn, and my next DS purchases are going to be Fire Emblem shadow dragon,FIII,and FFIV.
I bought FFIV recently. If you played it on the SNES or PS, you are in for a surprise. It's MUCH harder now. If you don't plan accordingly, even the first boss can be a road block. I played bits and pieces of the original only, so I was not at all prepared. That said, it's nothing short of amazing. The graphics are very surprising for a DS game. I'm assuming I don't need to explain the combat to you, you seem like a big fan of RPGs so it doesn't seem like you'd be unfamiliar with the system.

I'm not sure if any shops are actually selling it at all so that could be why. My parents have bought it for me for Christmas and before getting it from Amazon they looked for it in various shops in town but none of them had it. They said that some of them hadn't even heard of the game. Also, another game you may want to get thats coming out soonish is Tales of Graces F as the translation and dubbing teams are finished and speculated a release in January or February but no official release date has been announced so it could be later.

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me. How unfortunate it is, too. Oh well, at least it's available at...oh wait, it's out of stock on Game, too. If the US stock is like this, I'm definitely gonna have to pick it up.
I never played a Tales game and was thinking that this would be a good starting point, but now I'm thinking I'll probably just get Tales of Graces F instead.

It depends on what you want out of RPGs, though, since Tales of the Abyss is supposed to have a better story, but Graces f is better in the gameplay department.
