Swapnote is a messaging system coming to the 3DS via eshop in December. All the functions are u can draw pictures in 3 D to friends over online and streetpass also able to send photos and sound EDIT BTW it is FREE
I think this sounds like the beginning of a messaging system for 3DS, which is sorely needed right now. Really the only thing I've found outdated and frustrating about the system is the fact that I have a friend list that I can only look at, not interact with. If I can send messages to those people, that problem will be solved for me.
I dont like the idea of it being spotpass related. sounds like an app to me. It should have IM features and would be even better if it linked into your friends list. That way i can message while im playing games and browsing the internet
"Love your ego, you won't feel a thing, always number one, the pen with a bent wrist crooked king, sign away our peace, for your war, one word and it's over." ~ Deadmau5
Well, it probably will be an app but I don't really see the problem in that as long as it works. I don't really have a desire to sit on IM with someone on my 3DS. I do, however, want to be able to send them messages to say things such as "I'll be online playing Mario Kart at this time" or "How do you like that game you've been playing? Should I buy it?" I mean it's definitely a step up from the tiny status messages we have now, app or no app, don't you think?
From the videos I've seen it looks stylus to touch screen with actual writing rather than being able to type it with the keyboard... I was hoping it was going to be integrated into the Frinds List system, tap on their name and you can send a message to them. However, since you have to download it I'm guessing it's going to be an app that you'll have to go into rather than being able to use when you've got something else in the background... which kind of sucks to be honest. But at least we have a messaging system...
All I know is that this will be able to send your messages via streetpass and spotpass, so I guess online friends are included. Theres also the option of sending photos and sounds along with the mail, so thats a plus. And since its all free, I have nothing to complain about. Its Nintendo's version of a messaging system, and thats it. I was hoping for an online pictochat-like software, but a guy can dream, a guy can dream...

So far thats all that has been annouced i think
. Heads up my name online on the 3DS and Xbox Live is Bubbab5 to let you guys know. My 3DS FC 5412 9927 8618
If it isn't linked to your Friends List, how is it going to work? Who will you be sending messages to if not people on your friends list?
I think you'll more than likely have an address book with all your friends. Tap on their name and write/speak your message along with a photo if you so wish. Not sure how the StreetPass part will work though...
i think its through the friends list i think when you go on you select a friend and write a message to them like on the Wii
Since you'll have to download it, I think it'll more than likely be an app you'll have to go into to use... I'm sure that they'd have to update the Friends List sytem to intergrate a messaging system into it. But I might be wrong... I hope I'm wrong. I'd hate to have to use an app to send my friends a message. >.<
I like that it uses SpotPass. PictoChat wasn't really that fun when you needed to be no more than a few yards away from other chatters. IM would be cool, but I'll gladly take it.
In the video from Reggie, he lists it alongside other apps. Forget if he specifically said it was, but seems like it is. If it is, that sucks because it means you won't be able to check messages while in a game since you can only ever have one application loaded at a time. If it were through your friends tab, you can view that at any time.
Stylus-only doesn't bother me because the only message I'll be sending anyone for a long time will likely just be "MK7?"
