I don't want to wait for a different colour 3DS when I can have a perfectly good blue one now?

I'm just an irrational chooser of the black version, then.
But seriously, I agree. Unless they'd only launched with something absolutely hideous like hot pink, I probably wouldn't care enough to wait for another option.
EDIT: Also, I agree that the rep is not trustworthy because Nintendo never actually tells these people things, and they just like to ACT like they know stuff. Also the "could be non-literal butchering-of-the-English-language" answer is quite possible. Probably both.
1) This is highly unlikely. There's no way Nintendo is going to get production up to a level to meet demand for the console and then some in order to start producing more colors. On top of that, it doesn't make any business sense to do it so soon when everyone knows releasing new colors can reignite some interest and boost sales for the console.
2) If this did happen, I'd be happy about it. Why would I want to wait longer for a color I might like better? I'd just drop mine off on eBay for maybe $20 less than retail and go pick up a shiny new one.
But really, this won't happen, for the reasons outlined in #1.
I heard the red one was a developer unit, so don't expect to see a red one any time soon.
Reps at these events rarely work for Nintendo anyway, they're often contracted because they look nice. I played Metroid: Other M last year and had to explain the story of the series to the woman supposed to be explaining it to me, so there you go.

I'd say so too. And it's hard for me to imagine a color i would like ... in combination with the black frame around the upper screen ... except for black ...
Even if they are planing to release more colours they may postpone it. The Wii was originally going to have more colours shortly after release but was delays due to shortages. I can see the 3DS suffering from shortages as well. If this is the case then I think we will be stuck with blue and black for a while.

Yep, me too. But I expected to have to wait till next Christmas before it's released. I had a black DSlite and DSi, but I've always wanted a red DS - so a red 3DS it will be!

Same. I won't get mine until the fall when (1) I've bought/played/finished all the DS retail and DSiWare I'm interested in (2) there are games I'm genuinely interested in (not maybes) and (3) the online features (mainly the shop) are established.
New colours aren't that big of a problem for Nintendo, just use different coloured plastic/paint. Remember, the DSi got new colours (white and pink) in the fall about a week after I ordered my blue one.
