Nintendo has said that we should not count on getting a smart phone from them. So why not the next best thing? Skype 3DS would be a 3DS seller if you ask me....

If Nintendo is smart, they will try to get a Skype 3DS out. I think it would be a perfect app for 3DSWare. Then there would be no need to keep a Skype game card in your 3DS, and you'd have it available wherever you go.
The 3DS would have the processing power to handle video calls too!
Well Skype said they'd be willing to make a DSi version if Nintendo asked them so I think they might make a 3DS version.

Yeah, Skype REALLY wanted to make a DSiWare app, but Nintendo wouldn't let them. Possibly because they knew the 3DS was coming, in which case I'd expect Skype 3DSWare. Possibly because they only want their special Mario Chat or whatever, in which case I'd expect Skype won't reach the 3DS. I sure would like to see it on the 3DS, though.
It'd be good if they'd be made like 4 digits with letters so they'd be easier to remember or something...... Or if it wasn't a if you don't have a code you can play with blahdeblah-- They'd be like phone numbers- cept you'd only need 'em once just to get the username and yadda yadda yadda ..........
Calls to phones, free calls to Skype computer/mobile users, text messaging, call forwarding, voicemail, excellent ability to deal with low connection speeds. It's a full-featured service that anything Nintendo creates simply couldn't compare to (unless they go all out striking deals with international telcos, and that would be just silly when Skype has already done so).
I e-mailed Nintendo about Skype and I got a very positive response. However the response seemed to indicate that Nintendo will be making their own chat program while at the same time they are very much opened to Skype as well it seemed.

@MetalMario Yeah, Skype has always been free software so it should remain that way on the 3DS. They get their money from Skype-to-phone calls and the various extra services they provide, but Skype-to-Skype calls will always be free.

Makcerel is right! Skype has always been free and I hope it remains that way!

Perhaps Nintendo will make a deal with Skype? I don't know. But i think Nintendo should at least Look at what Skype is doing and learn from them if they are gonna make they're own Skype-like service thing. Also, to be honest i don't think Nintendo would be able to pull it off by themselves......

That would be great if they got a contract with Skype! Wow what a great idea! Maybe Nintendo will consider doing just that, I kinda doubt it because Iwata never said anything about being able to use a cam or anything, and Plus you have Pictochat and Nintendo might just make that into a kinda of Skype, and they might upgrade where you have to get on a WiFi signal and then sign in and add your friends e-mail or friend code and chat that way.

So many Awesome video games coming out this year! So many games so little money! Crap!
I'm pretty sure whatever video chat Nintendo puts out will only do 3DS to 3DS chatting. You'll need their unit's number and some kind of approval from them, most likely, too. Skype would allow you to use your 3DS to chat with anyone else on the internet or who owns a phone. Infinitely better, if Nintendo allows it to happen.
