Still haven't picked this up yet but it's just a matter of time. I do want to hear what people think about it though.

Well since nobody else has responded I did finally get this and will leave some thoughts here.

First thing is for those that care there's no 3d. That always a turn off for me. Still it does look nice even without.

The combat system is rather basic and you get 3 standard attacks with the x,b,and a buttons. So far I'm the rogue and tbh all you have to do is hit the x button and pretty much kills everything. Even the bosses of which I've beaten 5 so far can be kill with a few of those attacks.

Spells and karma is used by pressing and holding the l or r buttons and either a,b,x,or y. You need to link which spells and karma you want to take with you.

The game is broke up into small chapters. For instance 1-1 is only about 5 areas and you cannot advance to the next area until all enemies are defeated. The last enemy drops loot. After you defeat the last enemy your free to explore the area which often has crates or treasure chests to open or break. You never know what you really got till the end of that mission and all items you picked up will be revealed to you. Either weapons armor and or gems. This is also where you will see your experience earned and money collected. Leveling up gets you points to increase your stats on a grid.

Gems can be attached to certain weapons and armor for added effects like poison or increased fire damage.

Everything you find is separated into 4 categories common, rare, epic, and legend in that order. Each obviously more stronger and valuable than the other. The various items and weapons you find will not only be for your character but for all 4 available so a lot you won't be able to use right away but everything you find can be shared when you start another character.

If you free a merchant from a chest of hoard of enemies you will be able to buy from them at missions end.

So far I'm enjoying the combat even if it's simple but it is getting a bit harder. I'm just over 2 hours in now. The story seems like filler to me and is definitely not deep or the focus. If you like a good story look elsewhere.

I can't say this games worth the price asked for though even if I'm having a hard time putting it down. However if you're looking for something you can load up and play in short burst this may interest you. Missions can be beat in about 5 minutes and there doesn't seem to be a time commitment. Combat flows quickly even if simple and the sprites look nice. I recommend it but not at its current price. That may change but for now that's how I feel.

If anybody has any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks, @Spoony_Tech, I've had my eye on this game — really appreciate your impressions. I like the idea of playing in short bursts, and I enjoy the 2D art (plus it's been a while since I've played this type of game). Sounds to me like waiting on a sale is a good bet.

Kind of blah on the 2D only but I've got this in my wishlist anyway, the art and gameplay seem cool. Good to know it's not an impossible game, I kind of got that impression because a lot of games that look like this have a high difficulty. I guess trying to compare to actual import games. It's getting mixed reviews in most places as well.

Well to go a little further this game has a certain addictive quality. I'm over 20 hours now on 4 files with all 4 characters. I've beat the game a couple of time with 2 of the characters and a harder difficulty opens up. The further you go the more the loot gets better. I've still yet to see or combine the strongest gems. Legend and epic items are nice but the common are the only ones that take gems and you can make some powerful stuff with those.

Sadame is on sale this week. Is the game good?

RedFinch

Spoony_Tech

@Hey-Cha-La read my second comment. There's fun to be had and a sale helps make it more fun lol. I play on it for well over 50 hours but not everyone will get the same amount of time out of it. Its highly repetitive but still can be fun.

Thanks Spoony_Tech, the reviews aren't overly high for Sadame, but I do like blood in my games and enjoy Diablo type games... thanks I think I'll pass up on Steamworld Heist this round and get Sadame this week.

Cheers!

Actually, I just got Shiren the Wanderer Mystery Dungeon this week as well - I've turned it on to try it out and haven't been able to put it down! How does Sadame compare? I guess Shiren is more turn based and Sadame is more real time with bosses, but have you tried Mystery Dungeon? If so which would you say is better?

RedFinch

Spoony_Tech

@Hey-Cha-La I have not played it so I can't compare.

Thank you anyway! What the hey, I'll just download Sadame and compare the two for myself.

@David_NL
Sorry David, I didn't get it in the end. Those mixed critic reviews of Sadame really got to me in the end. I was also having so much fun with Shiren the Wanderer Mystery Dungeon that I missed the Sadame sale so it was easier for me to avoid an impulse purchase of Sadame. I was deliberating whether to buy Sadame or Steamworld Heist, and in the end I bought neither. I did get Yokai Watch though, as there was a sale on that at Best Buy Canada.

David_NL

@Hey-Cha-La That's OK. If it's Shiren, the DS game, that's pretty hard. I still have it, I think.

David_NL

RedFinch

@David_NL Yes, that's the one. It IS hard and I love it. I try to play until death occurs every couple of nights. Sometimes I get really far, sometimes I die really fast.

RedFinch

David_NL

@Hey-Cha-La I got to the end one time, but I had to go back and forth between towns leveling up my sword or something like that.

Been enjoying this game a lot, though I'm stuck on Act 3-3 with the samurai. Any advice on how to beat that bird-demon boss? I find it hard to hit him, everytime I get close he throws the whirlwinds at me. ^^'

@Lycidas Are you playing with a companion? They can help out a lot. The Rogue was my go to character. She was my starter and using the X button attack pretty much got me through the game the first time. She was also my go to companion. Ninja also works well for quite some time as that X button attack hits a wide radius.

So if you do get stuck for some time switch to another character for a while as you can share all loot across all 4 characters. You may get some good gems and or armor and weapons to help on other characters files.

@Spoony_Tech no, as of now, I haven't played with a companion, but I sure will do so now. And I'll also give the other characters a shot, I've only tried the Ninja so far, and the difference in handling was very noticeable.
I've only put a little thought into the skill board so far, which feels quite overwhelming. ^^' On the other hand, it's really nice to see that despite the slight repetitiveness of the gameplay, it still has quite some depth to offer.

PS: Thanks for this thread, your impressions actually tipped the balance in favor of buying Sadame!

I got the game yesterday for 9.99 CDN. It's okay, enjoyable. Thing I love most about it are the graphics, very visually pleasing game to me and it sort of reminds me of art from the developer that did Dragon's Crown (although not as good). SFX are loud and satisfying. I am starting my adventure as a samurai. The game play is really basic and generic, and if not for the graphics, I'm not sure I would like this game as much. 6.75/10 for me (somewhere between a 6.5 and 7.0).
