Wow, they can't even be bothered to give us an actual form? Just a recolor of Midday Lycanroc? What, are there only 5 people working on this game or something?
It's just the midday form with slightly spikier hair like the dusk form. This is so stupid, why would you show this first? Are there no more cool Alolan forms from any other generation of Pokemon?
That's all it looks like.....the only difference is the colouring and the eyes....it's stupid
It's official....Game Freak needed a way to introduce new shiny forms. Hopefully form 4 (presumably Dawn) has a more unique appearance. I like the design, but I agree that it's underwhelming. Lycanroc Midday must've been hitting the Seaweedies. (Brownie points if you get the reference without resorting to a search engine)

These reveals aren't really known for being major blow-outs. One of these variety show reveals only consisted of showing off Groudon and Kyogre's 3D models when ORAS was new on the scene.
@Haru17 No because that would be leaning on those past Pokemon you want rid of
Sun and Moon is obviously already in keeping with TPC's compatibility dogma and re-uses the X&Y models. I want to believe all of the fusion legendaries, mega evolutions, Stunfisk, Orange Dog, and all of the trash tier Pokemon will be in the past some day. Some day...

The thing is ORAS was blown out at E3 with tons of new mega forms. USUM is coming out soon and we still don't know what the game actually is two months after E3.

Doesn't matter. Those variety shows never reveal anything of substance, usually just concept art and short trailers that tell us nothing. It is a bit strange that they skipped E3, but they were never going to have that kind of blowout in Pokenchi, we're likely waiting for a trailer/site update for that, and that could happen God knows when.
@Bolt_Strike I'm not confusing anything , It's just that I don't think that they are changing to "casualization and simplicity" in the development area and that simplifying one aspect a bit doesn't change the goal. Game design is based around the gameplay which keeps the same so other that looking prettier and adding a few things while doing others more practical game design stays pretty much the same (if anything they sin from changing too little), and considering that they actually raised the difficulty with the latest games, I can't see how they are looking to "casualize" the game even more just because they simplified exploration a bit. For me, pokemon games were as "casual" as you can get in the first place, not counting the multiplayer. About the multiplayer, considering that they are doing it more deep and varied with each entry I think they are doing the opposite. If they simplified catching, battles, and pretty much every core aspect about the gameplay then I would agree, but I actually see that they expand gameplay with every entry, even just by adding new monsters with new abilities that influence the competitive scene.
"Also, good reviews mean virtually nothing in a business sense, as reviewers are an extremely small minority of gamers."
I have to say I strongly disagree. Reviews (specially from really popular sites) do influence in many gamers. Reviews may not be decisive when judging a game's success, but they definitely influence a considerable amount. They are far from meaning "virtually nothing" from a business sense since a good review is good publicity and a strong promotion of the games.
About the honeymoon period, of course you are right and considering that my link has opinions from 7 months ago, chances are they could be on that fase. However, as you said, you can find so many diverse opinions on youtube that its hard to say what most people really want, and even if we could somehow prove that most opinions are positive about wanting it there still a slight chance that those people are just the ones that voice their opinion the most and that they really aren't the majority.

No there aren't, stop giving people undue credit. YouTubers, streamers, reviewers, developers, 'gamers' all think they're unique but they're all the same, predictable people. You'll see as many 'professionals' led by stigma and rumor as lay-gamers, the only difference is that they take out a little bit of the vitriol, and overt racism and sexism.
In terms of taste most people want the same trite things — challenge, exploration, perfect graphics, gameplay focused around killing stuff, familiarity and nostalgia — and when they get some threadbare product that panders to those shallow expectations they circle and moan on about it for decades. You'll hear everyone repeat the same fallacies: a want for emergent and unique experiences. People want to feel special and see something no one else ever has — a laughable prospect in mass market entertainment. So both the consumptive and the creative chase after that fool's gold with open worlds and dialogue choices and other vapid things that further homogenize the medium. Then the marketers, celebrities, and reviewers try to spin their base desires and build them up to be something more than they actually are.
