NeoGaf thread on this is a mess filled with fly by idiots who post "lol guess this means NX then" and then disappear when people point out their stupidity. It's definitely memes at this point is the whole 'NX version for such-and-such' game. 100% legit and dank memes.
Same here. I also realized that the stream was most likely gonna be disappointing anyways, so I wasn't going to try to rush to get home, only to be completely disappointed.
With the show's reputation, I wasn't expecting much. Can we all agree that expecting something similar to the ORAS tease or a new Pokemon silhouette is within the range of acceptable expectations? Somehow, they managed to do worse than that. I mean, if they're going to air something about Sun and Moon, it really should be new content, or recent content. Not content that was revealed a month or so ago. At this moment in time the whole world has had a little over a month to view the announcement video. People that watch their show who don't know about it are most likely few and far between.
@BlatantlyHeroic: I say this with only some conviction, but I think the last statement ("People that watch their show who don't know about it are most likely few and far between") might be inaccurate enough for it to be worth re-airing the trailer.
As far as I know, that Pokemon trailer was only broadcast online in that Nintendo Direct, so all Pokemon fans looking for info online would have no doubt seen it. But the TV Show goes out to all the kids who happen to be watching that channel and 8:00am on Sunday, possibly just because it's 'what's on TV' at the time. I'm sure much of the audience of that show doesn't watch it as a Pokemon info source, but just because as something entertaining to do while mum and dad are having a lie in on Sunday. Those kids are probably a little more aware of and excited about the games than they were before.
In short:
"Great! Look at all these people who tuned in to watch the Direct! Now avid Pokemon fans from around the world have seen our trailer!"
"Is there anyone who hasn't seen it"
"Hmm... Probably a lot of those kids who watch our Sunday show"
"Right, then that's our next port of call"
It was just a bit of an anti-climax for the global audience who had tuned in to watch a show that could not be less aimed at them, only to be given something they'd already seen.

At this point, I could see NX being meme infested for Nintendo to try and win back the mobile market.
@Maxz I think you're underestimating the internet and the newer generations of kids. If kids are interested in something, they'll try and keep up to date in whatever way possible. People who watch that show are indefinitely fans of Pokemon, and so it stands to reason that they would have found out about Pokemon Sun and Moon, whether it be by word of mouth, trending searches, going on the Pokemon website, or looking at the Pokemon YouTube channel. That video clip is easily accessible, and has been ever since the announcement.
You're viewing this as Nintendo Direct-only footage when it's not. The trailer shown in the direct was released a couple of minutes after the direct ended onto the Pokemon YouTube channel, and almost everyone uses YouTube. Kids watching that show are already invested in Pokemon, so like I said, it stands to reason that they'd have already found out given that they had more than a month to randomly browse.
@BlatantlyHeroic: You may well be right. Though without some pretty obscure data on watching habits, we're unlikely to reach a solid conclusion. I still reckon some portion of the audience are reasonably interested in Pokemon, but not 'invested' in it, and happen to be watching it because it's the thing on TV. I know viewing habits have changed drastically (across all age groups), but I think TV still possesses the ability to broadcast stuff to people who wouldn't have actively searched for the content theirselves.
I'm aware that the trailer exists outside of the the Direct (although I didn't communicate well at all), and lots of people - no doubt most people - will have viewed that trailer outside of the Direct.
I think my point hinges on the following assumption: not everyone watching Pokemon Sunday (or Pokenchi, or Gathering at the Pokemon House, or whatever you'd like to call it) IS an avid Pokemon fan, or necessarily 'invested' in the games (despite the fact they're watching a dedicated Pokemon TV show). I think people still turn on TV to see what's on TV, and if it's entertaining enough, they'll watch it. Pokemon is a brand nearly all Japanese kids are at least 'familiar with', even if they're not 'invested' in it. I assume there exists a broader audience that is willing to watch something about Pokemon if it's front of them, even if they wouldn't be inclined to research it for themselves. The show is only a half an hour broadcast in the entire Sunday morning kids TV schedule. Kids could be up to watch Beyblades (which starts at 8:30), and simply happen to catch the Sun and Moon trailers because they tuned in early. Or they could just be up to 'watch TV' with no explicit purpose.
I don't know the size of this 'passive' audience, but I think it's fair to assume it exists; and given that Pokenchi is the only dedicated TV presence that Pokemon has, I think it would be weird if they didn't showcase the trailer on it at some point.
The question is really about how the international community came to believe it was worth hyping up and watching a Japanese kids show at 8am JST.
@Maxz: Hi guys, sorry I wasn't about but I can give some context why there wasn't a live stream.
I had a chat with Joe Merrick (Serebii) and he highlighted potential issues with the mirrors and live streaming Japanese TV, and I decided it wasn't really the right call. As it was we didn't miss anything!
@ThomasBW84: Thanks for the letting us know. The stream we saw did seem a little sketchy, and far from the 'official' quality we get from Directs or the GAMECENTER CX broadcast, so I think you made the right call in not hosting a fan-stream. And in light of the lack of information given, I'm actually SURE you made the right call, as doing so would raised expectations across the board and then resulted in the whole site throwing a strop.
Rather than just us.
I can just imagine all the comments earnestly arguing that the reason why Nintendo is struggling is due to the content of a 30 minute Sunday morning kids' TV show. People seem to write, "This is why Nintendo is failing" under just about any article, so I would be surprised if this were different. Anyway, the less disappointment and angry knashing of chops the better.
It would be fun to have another live stream soon though. I found that Arino one odd but engaging.
@BlatantlyHeroic: Yes, as I am well aware. That is part of the reason why such comments would be so ridiculous and tiresome to read. It was an implicit part of joke.
But thanks. You've made the joke that much more accessible.
I know you're just trying to score a point, but please leave some openness in the way you make your statements to allow for the possibility that a person might already know whatever it is you're telling them. Otherwise you come across as rather bullish and arrogant.
You'd also present better in an conversation if you engaged with some of the points that you can't see a way of bluntly disagreeing with. You seem to have flat out abandoned the previous discussion, which addressed some of the concerns you raised. My assumption is that you couldn't see any immediate statements to shoot down, and so moved onto the next target.
That doesn't make for a discussion. That makes for an argument. It's almost as if you have no interest in what a person has to say apart from that which you can use to imply they're foolish or ignorant. And while working through disagreements is a natural and necessary part of any discussion, to solely focus on it leaves a bad taste in the mouths of those you converse with, and creates an unpleasant environment for anyone to say anything, no matter how innocuous.
In short; could you make an effort to contribute to the discussion a bit more broadly than in just your current self-assertive and contrarian manner? It would brighten this place up a lot.
Wow um.. That escalated quickly.
So I wasn't surprised that nothing was announced, typical really.
Anyways, it has passed, and I guess we will now have to wait for CoroCoro to announce new info, What do you think they will reveal? Legendaries, staters,?
