To be fair, what's the source of those images? A random Japanese magazine? Definitely not CoroCoro. The editors could've easily added that description themselves, and that's probably what happened. You know, to show how well Soundproof can work on a Dragon type. I don't think this confirms or disproves anything.
I imagine they aren't available until post game. Post game content usually isn't promoted by TPC until after the game launches. In which case there may very well still be new Megas, though they'd probably be few in number.
@CrazedCavalier Aye, Mega Gardevoir gets a mention. Interesting that 'V Jump' - a Manga compilation magazine I hadn't heard of until now - spilled the means rather than CoroCoro.
I'll try and put up a full translation. I suspect there'll be one somewhere already, but it should be good practice anyway.

We did get information about obtaining deoxys and rayquaza during the delta episode in a corocoro before the release of oras.
Idk, I find that smogon confirmation a bit weird. Jangmo-o wasn't shown in a magazine before yet and I don't see any source material for jangmo-o appearing in any media besides the internet. I also find it weird they'll specifically say mega gard or sylveon when about half the pokemon in the game can be tutored with hyper voice.
@IceClimbers Reliable? As in often right and this is just them giving their own thoughts in this case? Or as in this info came directly from GameFreak or TPC. I'm thinking it's the first one. Doesn't matter really, but I wouldn't see this as confirmation of anything.
@MegaBeedrill Probably because Hyper Voice is the most common ''sound'' based move in the competitive scene and combined with Pixelate, it actually becomes a threat to Jangmo-o. So this is probably just to show how ''good'' Jangmo-o + Soundproof can be in competitive battles against Fairy types. Even though it's still a very situational thing, it can effectively block a super-effective move. I think that's why they used Sylveon and Mega Gardevoir as examples.
@MegaBeedrill They specifically mention Mega Gardevoir and Sylveon because of Pixelate, which would make Jangmo-o weak to Hyper Voice without Soundproof. It's mentioning strategies.
@Octane It's an advertisement. It's a confirmation. Besides, Megas have been featured prominently in merchandise, both recent and upcoming. No real reason to think they've been dropped.
V Jump Pokemon Writer Eevee Yamazaki's Research Corner
Are you anticipating the new Dragon Pokémon Jangmo-o's role in battle!?
Jangmo-o
Type: Dragon
Ability: Bulletproof/Soundproof
Introducing a new Pokemon with an impressive heart-shaped scale affixed to its brow: Jangmo-o. One feature you should observe is its ability "Soundproof"! Having this ability means soundbased moves are ineffective. That is to say, attacks that wield extreme power in battle such as "Hyper Voice" are negated! Many people teach "Hyper Voice" to Pokémon such as Sylveon and Mega Gardevoir, so when this Pokémon appears on the field, the circumstances of battle might change drastically. In addition, sound-based moves can normally break through a substitute, but with Soundproof there's no need to worry! Being able to stably use Substitute is a pretty big bonus! Also, I'd like to note how Jangmo-o seems as if it could be bequeathed an evolution. Dragon Type Pokémon's final evolutions are generally highly proficient, so I imagine many people may come to use it in battle.
It's not the most fluid of translations, but I generally tried to keep everything in from the original text, and just hoped the resulting sentences didn't turn out too rambling or obtuse. I think it's pretty accurate, which is the main thing.
It's definitely interesting, as the piece poses a scenario in which Mega Gardevoir and Jangmo-o are in the same battle, which would demand Mega G crossing the generational gap. I wouldn't take it as absolute confirmation, but it's definitely a very supportive case.
However, given that the Mysterious "Eevee Miyazaki" hasn't demonstrated exclusive knowledge of anything else (in this piece), it could be that he's just some writer for the magazine who's been told to knock up a paragraph about Jangmo-o and knows no more than we do. We've known that Jangmo-o has had access to Soundproof since it was revealed, and potentially, having nothing new to write about the Pokémon, he could have just given a brief essay on the ability Soundproof instead. His painting of Jangmo-mo into the current metagame could be wishful thinking, rather than based on any insider information.
Has "Eevee Miyazaki" ever revealed anything exclusive in the past?
@Octane In which case, we're, err... back at square one.
Still, Jangmo-o is pretty cool, I guess, and has mysteries of its own. What will its final evolution look like (I think it's safe to assume it has one)? How will they expand upon the scale concept? Will it have wings (its mouth looks a bit beaky)? And... what's the correct way to pronounce its name?
Also @IceClimbers, is this conversation going on anywhere else on the internet? I'd be interested to see what other people have gleaned (though I doubt there's too much we haven't covered).
EDIT: Found the original Smogon thread. I swear that site had the most confusingly categorised forum ever. Everything subforum has some code word for a title. Anyway, they don't appear to have any more to go on than we do, though there's a fair bit of conclusion-jumping going on.
As @Octane had said, Megas still may return, but until we know that this Eevee Miyazaki chap is more than your average magazine writer, we shouldn't treat it as confirmation.
Why wouldn't they bring Mega Evolution back? They've brought back all past form changes for other Pokemon each generation, why would it be any different now? Sheesh, the things people need "confirmed".
I could understand if we were talking about some type of side game activity or institute, but we're talking about form changes and competitive held items. They wouldn't just throw away something they made specifically to make certain Pokemon viable again. It seems unlikely that we'll be getting new Megas though.
It's possible they wouldn't bring it back, megas weren't a thing until the Kalos region and clearly the games stated mega evolution was a thing before probably the arceus betrayal in the anime. They could leave megas to a just Kalos thing, and since it was more of a key item mechanic, it's certainly something they can scrap (we've see key item mechanics like vs. seeker, poffins, pokeradar, etc dropped before).
Hell, gems were still never reintroduced since gen 5 and they were a major competitive asset back then.
They may remove them game design wise for the purpose of lowing the amount of Pokemon (not doubling the existence of them), more art blocks like mega flygon, and not cluttering the entire region with more collectibles ( arceus's plates got pretty annoying and irritating during ORAS, and sorting through mega stones in your bag was a chore.)
If they kept them, but didn't introduce new ones, it would be kinda weird having basically the same exact meta as x/y since we haven't really seen anything competitively strong yet from sun and moon to mega skhan level.
@BlatantlyHeroic Whether or not something needs confirming, I still think it's worth clarifying what actually does qualify as an official confirmation and what doesn't. It would be wrong in principle to let the original claim from the Smogon thread ("A magazine confirms that Megas will be in Sun Moon") go unchallenged, and all too easy given that the original source was a dense page of Japanese.
If Megas are back, it's at least interesting that they've held off this long before unveiling new ones (or even old ones). New Megas popping up every week or so was a big part of the XYORAS hype buildup, but we haven't seen that trend continued as of yet. Of course, Mega Evolution was Gen 6's 'big thing', being Sycamore's topic of research and heavily tied to the Kalos region. SuMo has enough of its plate to showcase with Alolan Forms and Z-Moves (Neo-Oak's and Kukui's areas of expertise respectively), so it probably wants to give them their time in the sun (or moon).
If I recall correctly, it was quite late in Gen 4's release cycle that we found out about Electivire/Magmortar/Mamoswine/Magnezone/etc, and I kind of see Mega Evolutions being slipped in in a similar way, maybe with a few extras thrown in for good measure (or MEGA HAHAHAHA).
However, I do wonder if the Z-Crystal and Mega Stones kind of tread on each other's feet, as it would mean giving 1/3 of your team some of gimmick stone which was non-functional outside its particular gimmick. It would at least stop Megas getting Z-Moves though, which would be getting a bit silly.
We'll see. But - necessary or not - it hasn't been officially confirmed, and that's the claim that started this whole shebang off (again).
@MegaBeedrill That makes no sense. Gamefreak barely even acknowledges its own lore anyway. They'd never get rid of something that they made specifically to help out competitive battlers. Sun and Moon also take place in the future, so the popularity and widespread use of Mega Evolution could have very well increased after the protagonist and Kalos used it. I mean, we don't even have an explanation for why Steven was able to give you a MB in Hoenn, and ORAS is set BEFORE X and Y.
Let me put it this way: You're just about as likely to lose Megas as you are Giratina's origin form or Deoxys's meteorites in each game. They always appear, why would this be any different?
They'd suffer a big backlash for not including mega evolution, because a lot of people like the new designs that it brought to the table.
I'd also like to point out that Z-moves taking up an item slot seems to be placed in order to counter the possibility of using them with Megas.
@Maxz To be fair, it took them until just now to confirm that character customization would be coming back.
