It's probably meant to look like a sea creature, but it does remind me a bit of a shell-less/molting roach now that you mention it.
I think that Beauty is more reminiscent of a mayfly (mainly because its feet remind me of that insect's back abdomen), but I can sort of see a sea creature resemblance.
They're probably just being hyped up with the "not even pokemon" theories. Remember when unown were said to not even be pokemon? Yet they provide a collectathon.
Whether they're manmade, people, or aliens that didn't stop mewtwo, yamask, or deoxys from being caught.
If these prove uncatchable that is honestly concerning since everything in history has been playable and catchable besides the BW movie bosses.
I think the UBs will be catchable, but for purposes of "story" which seems to be a huge focus this gen, they will be considered uncatchable, until the chosen one... The Player... catches one. Then the final person in the "Elite Four" will have one...
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Personally, I wouldn't mind if they are uncatchable. I like the idea of having a tough enemy to fight for once, one in which I can unleash my whole team's power instead of being trying not to kill it so that I can catch it.
@DefHalan I don't think so. Pokemon seem to be a little tougher in Totem battles, but that's it. The UBs on the other hand look at least as strong as a legendary, and with a little bit of luck they could be the toughest battles in a pokemon game by far. It's unlikely because they are directed mostly to kids, but one can dream.
@roy130390 I don't think UBs will have as much challenge as you are hoping, especially with how important they seem to be in the Story. Totem battles, which seem to be replacing GYM battles (I think) will make those battles something to test your skill. Either way, the way I play Pokemon normally means I don't have much of a challenge with any battle. Been debating on doing a Nuzlock after I get a living Pokedex lol

@DefHalan Yeah me neither, I guess I'll always have the competitive battles to fill that urge for challenge. Wouldn't the same rule apply to Totem battles though? After all they are also part of the story, so I actually expect less challenge from them than from the UBs, but who knows. I just hope ther are at least on par with the gym battles and not easier.
Nuzlockes can be quite fun and give a lot of replay value for many people, you should definitely try one someday.
The first Ultra Beast looked kinda cool; The other two can be dubbed as Ugly Beasts for all I care. I don't think you'll be able to catch. Maybe you won't even fight them? Although I think that's rather unlikely.
@roy130390 I figure Totem battles will have a similar challenge as GYM Leader Battles, but like I said before, those haven't been challenging for me in a long time. Lol

That room hack sounds like the challenge mode available in black and white 2.
Anyway, I really wouldn't mind them adding uncatchable monsters. It would be quite refreshing. And they wouldn't need to bring them back in future games.
Just as long as they keep them limited in numbers, everything will be ok.
