@Haru17 I am actually working on a Living Pokedex.

I just think it is a waste to redesign old Pokemon instead of creating a new Pokemon. Unless the redesign can benefit the original (not just its popularity but a gameplay improvement) then it seems like a huge waste. Mega Pokemon did improve those Pokemon gameplay wise, before someone says something

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Haru17

Mega pokemon are, to me, a lot clumsier than Alolan forms which (presumably) you can just walk into battle with.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Eel

I'd like to assume that most of the new moves learned by the alolan forms will become egg moves for the original pokemon too. So that's good.

@Meowpheel I can see some overlap, I think that they will be treated as different species in that regard. So if Alolan Sandslash learns Metal Claw and Ice Beam, I can imagine that regular Sandslash can learn Metal Claw as well (if he doesn't already), but I have a difficult time imagining him learning Ice Beam.

Iceslash with metal claw and ice beam sounds like fun. Too bad they're not both the same attack type. That always depresses me about playing pokemon. So many ways to be suboptimal :/

I'm not sure if breeding will be available in this game, but Alolan forms of Pikachu and Exeggcute could be available through breeding two Alolan Raichus (or vice versa) together to create an Alolan Pikachu. I don't think it would make sense for two Alolan Pokemon to create a non-Alolan pokemon unless they weren't in Alola.

@MegaBeedrill In future games, maybe they could just add some sort of postgame "Alola Charm" item that allows you to find Alolan Pokemon in the wild where their original counterparts would be found instead.

We don't know, for example, how a Pikachu evolves to Alolachu differently, but if the requirements for Pokemon to evolve into Alolan forms is just the same as their normal counterparts (except that they are evolved in Alola), this could remedy that too.

i.e., Give your Pikachu a Thunderstone it's just naturally a regular Raichu. But if you switch on some kind of "Alola Charm", now when it evolves it will be Alolachu.

I think that only Pikachu caught in Alola will evolve into Alolan Raichu (cause they have the ''Alolan DNA''). A Pikachu caught or hatched in another region will probably result in a regular Raichu. I think they're pushing the Red and Blue connectivity so that people get easily get the regular forms by transferring the regular forms from Kanto.

Whether Alolan forms will make a return in future games remains to be seen. If you can transfer them to the PokeBank that would make sense. But maybe they a one-off thing that only exists in the seventh generation. Just like Mega Evolution might be a thing that only exists in the sixth generation.

I would guess that if you breed Alola forms, the female's form would determine the baby's form, much like with the species of the baby. So if you breed a female Alola Raichu with a male Raichu, the baby would evolve into an Alola Raichu, but the other way around would only evolve into a regular Raichu.

Well we got no particular news today. Pretty sure corocoro explained more than the site reveals for the UBs. All we learned today was there will be more ultra beast...

Oh 20th is the next date for news.

They're still both weird names but Absorption makes more sense since it seems to actually be a muscle mosquito. (its Japanese description from Serebii says it has a proboscis)

Which makes me think, with it being named Expansion/Absorption, maybe it sucks the life force or energy of its opponents and beefs itself up.

Edit: I just watched the video and saw its wings and multiple legs, this thing is definitely a mosquito.

UB-02 Beauty also seems insectoid too... I wonder what that means, and why UB-01 isn't.

@FriedSquid Makes sense.

Here it is:

Anyways, the title screen theme in the new trailer is different from before. Added a choir in the background!

Whoa, check out this excerpt from the UB-02 Beauty description on the website:

"It is said that any Pokemon that sees UB-02 Beauty, regardless of its own gender, will become infatuated with it and lose the will to battle."

So will the battle with UB-02 Beauty automatically have your Pokemon under infatuation? Oh boy.

I like the idea of these UB being actual rpg boss monsters instead of pokemon.

That way they can make them stupidly strong to require a full team to beat them, but since you can't catch them, it's all ok.

Using a common legendary Pokemon as a boss is usually very disappointing.

@Meowpheel It's a good idea. Either we've had human trainers with entire teams for bosses, or legendary Pokémon, which you're not supposed to so much battle as catch. Having one hyper powered foe that required an entire team to take out would be a first for the series.

Although it would mean there were beasts that were naturally massively more powered than Arceus, Mewtwo, Regigigas, and any other divine or super-powered Legendary Pokémon. Still, it's not like the series have ever been too fussed about logically attributing power.

Other than the obvious "Hey, it's a mosquito!" factor about UB-02 Absorption, its name may reference that it's high on the defensive side.

To contribute to an earlier discussion, I think the revamped Alolan Pokemon will be treated as the own species breeding-wise. It's possible that they'll just be slightly more compatible with the parallel original species. Minus some moves, of course.

All this talk about needing entire teams to take down a single powerful foe, and not one person here does nuzlockes.

Also why did they give beauty the form of a cockroach that attracts any gender? That sounds wrong in so many different ways...
