i really like this game so far. downloaded it yesterday before going to bed and played two hours straight. not paying any real money for this of course^^
I feel dumb. I just noticed that the "Can't wait until tomorrow" option doesn't waste diamonds and is instead available if your rank is high enough. Well, better late than never.
Stupid question for the thread - all those plants/tress we keep buying - power, speed, collecting - they are automatically applied, yes? We don't actually plant them anywhere, nor do they show up anywhere on the maps, levels or hub world itself? We just take it for granted they are actually doing something, b/c I can't tell the difference? I thought the money collecting 1 might be noticeable as coins came flying at me from across the screen - it's a great power up to have in the Ratchet & Clank series - but it still looks the same to me.

@rjejr: Yes. They are automatically applied. I noticed my Pokémon being faster after I bought Speed Tree. It's not a huge difference though.
Thanks, thats what my 10 year old told me. Just wish there was some evidence so I knew which trees were being applied - either a list or actual tree growing in the hub, anything as a reminder that I had already purchased the trees. Oh well, it's a free game. Most important thing is knowing they are applied both so I can stop looking and knowing my coins weren't wasted.

@rjejr: Actually, now that I took another look, you can see your trees. They are next to the shop. The trees were there from the beginning but they have some kind of gems on them now. Attack tree, for example, has a red gem on it and another smaller gem on top of that now that I upgraded it.

Oh, thank you very much, that would help, I'll need to go check. My son hasn't bought any trees yet - we have three 3DS in the house all playing the game - so I'll be able to compare. I'll report back w/ my findings.

Firstly, capturing boss pokemon mainly relies on luck.. there is a fair ammount of RNG involved, even if you correctly follow and do the things that influence the capture, you still may not succeed... but these are the conditions in which you may capture a boss, or any pokemon in general.
First, is the sparkles. If the pokemon has gold sparkles surrounding it, it's a guarenteed capture when you defeat it no matter what. The issue is the sparkles are randomly generated the time the pokemon spawns. They seem to appear on bosses more often then regular pokemon, however they're a perment effect. If you see those sparkles on the pokemon from the time you encounter it, you're golden.. just don't die and run out of diamonds.
Notice the sparkles on sneasel
The Guarenteed result when defeated
The other method which triggers a pokemon to drop a toy, is when you defeat it in the wobble status. The wobble status is basicly like the pokemon getting stunned, it will have stars circling it's head and it'll, as the name suggest, wobble.. alongside playing an audio to back it up. When you defeat a pokemon during this phaze, it's a guarenteed capture. Keep in mind the time window for the wobble is short, they don't stay in the wobble status for long.
Unforunately, I didn't get the wobble on lucario, however this stupid mii got the wobble during the fight.. fair enough for an example I guess.
Now triggering the wobble on pokemon is the tricky part.. with regular pokemon, the wobble seems more randomized. However on boss pokemon, there is an easier method to triggering it. Just make note there is a chance you may not get the wobble even if you do this correctly. If you consecutively attack the boss during it's cooldown phaze, you have a chance to get it to wobble. The cooldown phaze is another thing that needs triggered, but forunately all bosses go through it and they go through it in a specific pattern, usually three attacks, and then cooldown. To identify when a pokemon is in cooldown, it will close it's eyes and remain stationary in one spot, don't confuse it for reliation and rage phazes where you miss every hit and get knocked back. Cooldowns only last about 3 seconds, so pound those pokemon hard when they go in it for that wobble!
Lucario going in a cooldown, notice the closed eyes and more relaxed appearence.
In some cases I'm found the pokemon impossible to wobble, particularly mienshao, who goes into cooldown only after using a protective move, making it invincable during a cooldown to even cause a wobble.
If you fail to capture the pokemon, you can use a mii found in your castle grounds to go back to the last location you visited. Everything will be rerandomized except for the boss, giving you multiple chances. There is also another chance the boss can sparkle, and you can consecutively do this as many times as you like with pokediamonds. This is mostly useful for rematching those three star pokemon you missed.
In normal conditions however.. with no sparkles, and no wobbles, you still have a small chance the pokemon may drop a toy instead of coins. Not sure what the odds are but they're slim.

Well you were mostly right about the trees. There are 4 trees to the right of the shop, 1 on low ground, 3 on high, and when you buy trees they get planted w/ the gems in front of the 3 on the hill. So every tree you buy adds another tree.
Thanks a lot, it was driving me crazy.

General question - will we be able to finish the game w/o spending money? Seems like there could be enough kings quest jewels to get the job done, along w/ streetpass if need be.
Has anybody run out of kings quests? Beat the magican w/ end credits? I keep reaching the last Pokemon in shufgle but I get the impression there will be more added monthly. So Im wondering if this is vomplete as is?

Yeah you can complete the game without spending money but it'll take awhile as the balloons start to take up to 8 hours to recharge.
That wouldn't bother me. Once a day w/ the 5 balloons I currently have is enough, so as long as the balloons take less than 24 hours to recharge I'm ok. I guess my real question was would there be enough King Quests to get enough jewels to buy all of the balloons as that seems to be the main way to get jewels, it's not like Pokemon Shuffle where you lives simply renew with time.
And besides, I'd rather it take a couple of weeks to "Catch'em all" than only 2 or 3 days like it seems like you would be able to do it you bought 3000 jewels.

Catching them all is going to take alot longer than that, with 1250 purchased diamonds I made it to level 40 with only 300 species caught. The rest of them are going to be pure RNG and waiting for each and every indivigual species.. I just ran out of diamonds so the probability of say, catching a new boss in the distortion land which recharges every 8 hours is pretty small... 4 atempts a day to get a new pokemon or two in that land, 1/6 chance it's the roulette I'm aiming for (without time stop), a small chance it's one, two, or three stars since they're rarer, and then generally the shakey odds of capturing the pokemon itself when you actually get to it..
Repeat this for the other 400 pokemon I'm lacking, I got a serious long way to go. Purchasing the rest of the pokediamonds to unlock that "digging machine" I'm hearing about seems like my best boost.
Finally earned 30 gems on my own for the Gold balloon. I didn't immediately do the next quests in the castle and poorly spent a few gems trying to continue lol, so I definitely could have gotten them sooner. The game is definitely playable without having to pay, but with how long some of these reinflate times get as you level up I'd imagine eventually it'd be better to just pay.
I'm gonna buy some gems tomorrow. Games solid and a very nice example of how to do free to play in my eyes. Really excited to see what Nintendo has planned for smart phones.
If anyone wants to swap friend codes mines 0688 5589 9091. I've been meaning to get off showdown and actually build teams in game for a while now too if anyone wants to battle in the main games as well.
Can you actually time the roulette? I'm certain there are patterns, but they seem to change regularly between 2. It's hard to make out which of these two it's using right now. Because it's pretty annoying if you get into an area you already completed. Despite that you can catch stronger Pokemon of you already caught.
@BlueBlurIxM: You get an item which basically let's you choose the stage by slowing the roulette and stopping it instantly when you press A but it costs 2 diamonds to use. I hate that I keep visiting the same stages where I've caught all the Pokémon while there are places I haven't even been to yet.
EDIT: Forgot to tell that you get the item once you complete King's challenge "The Phantom Thief Returns".
The only way to obtain more diamonds are from the King and buying from the shop right? Anyway, I've played the game a little today, quite a fun game, especially considering it's free. I like that the more dungeon-esque structure is back, something that I missed in Rumble U.
