I have everything on three stars and am currently trying to perfect all (which is really hard). I can confirm Meca Hawk wandering around that gold island and new diorama's by finding all the golden ring, Mii trophies and Stunt Rings in Free Flight mode. Finding all the balloons gives you five minutes to fly around in Free Flight Mode and finding all the i balloons gets you a castle.
I currently need one Mii Trophie and one golden ring to get all the diorama's and finish Free Flight Mode. Then it's on to perfect Gold, Platinum and Diamond.

I find it weird how a lot of people are getting hung-up on the length of a game. Playing a game is all about the experience, and if that experience was about an hour it doesn't matter to me. If the experience justifies the price I'm happy to play it again.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Ok after alot play throughs of pilotwings am not sure about it?
While it take a while to get all stars and diamond class
I feel short changed?
Why was spotpass or streetpass not used? why no 2 player or online play?
Why only 6 crafts and one island?
Why couldnt free flight mean "FREE FLIGHT" and not restrict you to time limt?
White Balloons, stunt rings, gold rings, mii cups could of been on different mode say a challenge mode furthering replay value.
I Just dont know what development team were thinking?
While the game looks lovely in 3D and there is sum fun to be had flying around.
I just feel that this could of been something special.
With abit more time and and attention they mite of created sumthing worth the title pilotwings but it feels to watered down not enough to warrent £40 pound price point or even beening retail game.
It should of came with 3DS like wii sports did for wii
While there is fun to be had the island feels empty avoid of all life apart from odd whale jumping out of the sea or lonely plane flying on fixed path. If the development team had put sum life into island like an event for mii's in the town or even some mii's walking or driving around island. Theres even no birds flying around for god sake! It would gave island abit more personally instead of it feeling like everyone has left the resort? Lol
Totally uninteresting for this kind of game. Only some sort of dogfight might me ok. But that wouldn't add and will be completly different from the rest of the game.
I think six (seven if you include the squirrel suit) is more then enough. Bit compareble to the earlier games in the serie. And one island is enough for me as well. And it will be recognizable for those who have played Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus.

So you want free flight and then a seperate one with the white balloons and stuff. So why would you play Free flight then? I agree about the time limit, but after I find one more ring and mii cup, I doubt I will return to this mode any time soon.

I agree with this. There should be some life, like Mii's like in Wii Sport Resort. I all feels so empty.

Its short game even if u collected all the stars and unlock diamond class its not very well thought out how you unlock classes.
Id played for 2 hours when i bought it other day and in a matter of mins id unlocked all classes and the 3 air crafts expect diamond.
It just felt like it gave you everything in first couple of mins of play which i though was abit crazy and great way make game feel short.
As for free flight that should of be made so you could explored at own pace.
And what would been a better idea is to have other mode called challenge missions for each craft to collect there choose item within restrict time limt.
Eg. Rocket belt ~ balloons for example and maybe have three different conditions like limted fuel, or balloons that have hit with sum force 2 burst them. Challenge mode could of unlocked concept art or different events on island for example or even new crafts.
And flying suit doesnt really count as its used in one mission and it not like you can use it in free flight which is a shame.
Air crafts nothing amazing it would been great to unlock: ufo, air balloon, meca hawk or bird suit but seem that they missed ball on that two.
As for 2 player option
dogfights, in planes and jets. Balloon pop for jet packs. And ring race for gliders
Would been great and would gave game good replay value
And maybe streetpass could been used with you club card to compare stats or trade photos.
Or ever sum online leaderboards would been good because not like anyone can see your records after done mission:(
Dont get wrong its fun game but it falls short of what it could have been:)
@ Tate24. I have currently spend 40 hours on Pilotwings Resort and I'm still not done. You must have the drive to go for a Perfect though. I really find it worth the 40 Euro's I paid for it. I think it has the best use of 3D of all the current launch games I have played. Sure you can blow through the game within a couple of hours, not going for three stars and unlocking all the crafts and extra's, but the same can be said for a lot of other games.
There would be no point in your Free Flight idea. Just flying around doing nothing. And they put some sort of challenge mode in the free flight mode and mission mode you mentioned. The things you described basically are some of the missions.
About the multiplayer, only dogfight is interesting (like I said before), but would be completely different from tone in comparison of the rest of the game.

But you cant show off your scores to no one? so there isnt much incentive to get a high score.
In less you enjoy that sort of thing.
It not like your unlocking sumthing amazing after you have done it all! apart from diamond class which i hear hasn't many missions on offer.
As for the missions there are a small number that are unique and fun to play.
But rest have you flying through same green rings and bursting same orange balloons again and again.
Id have more praise for game if all missions were as exciting as UFO mission or the one were chasing after a car or putting out fires on beach.
But sadly it feels like most of them are lack of any imagination and become a chore to do 10 times over.
Reason why wanted free flight mode avoid of all challenges.
Is if you using the glider and wanting to take in the views of the island all pictures are ruinned because there are lots "i rings" or balloons, gold rings scattered about ever were and it annoying.
When all you want are sum cool looking pictures of the town or beach for example and everytime you get close 3 huge green i rings pop up or balloons and it ruins what could been amazing picture and makes taking pics of island worthless
free flight would been more of site seeing photo opportunity to take pics in glorious 3D with no annoying challenge icons to ruin your pictures.
ive manage take few good ones but only from far off view and i think this is other missed opportunity that cant share your photos by streetpass in form of postcards
like i said games looks good in 3D but lack any creative missions and content or use of any of 3DS abilities apart from 3D
Personally I don't really see any point in showing someone else your scores. It's not like Pilotwings is some sort of scoring game like Tetris for the original GB. From what I've understand, getting a perfect in every mission unlocks something in mission mode. So I'm going for it to find out what it is and to feel like really achieving the maximum out of the game. It's all about challenging yourself and not breeze through the game with two stars.
Diamond mode is really hard, but not impossible. Only three missions but with three different crafts that are pretty hard to get used too. Let alone get perfect (already have three stars).
The missions are fine by me. A lot of variety. In both what your objectives are and in difficulty. Add the free flight mode which makes you collect stuff with different crafts and different objectives and you have a nice package of things to do.
I really don't understand a free flight mode with nothing to do. You blame the game for lack of imaginations and being a chore but you enjoy flying around without a goal, snapping pictures. I also doubt how sharing pictures through streetpass to other people with Pilotwings is any added value.
It doesn't lack creative missions. The game have enough creative missions with enough variety to keep it interesting and to keep you playing. Not using any of the 3DS abilities apart from the 3D is a bit of a headscratcher for me. The only thing it doesn't use is streetpass and internet. The other 3DS abilities are all used.

@Tj92, so we can't discuss a game on a forum, I thought that's what forums are for.
It uses the power of the 3DS, it uses 3D, it uses touch screen, it uses the circle pad (which is very precise). Only thing it doesn't use is streetpass/internet and the camera/microphone (which haven't been used by any of the launch games that I can recall). But I don't see how not using anything of the 3DS abilities hurt the game. You probably never played Shadows Wars on the 3DS?

It does also use the Camera program, as you can save the photos you take in the game using the glider and oggle them there.
But yeah, it took me 10 hours to complete the game (all three stars and found everything). I'm very happy with the game since I got it for basically free from Amazon, haha.
