i might be saying this a bit too soon, but (sorry to always be pessimistic) I am disappointed with the 3DS's 3D "classics". Don't get me wrong excite bike and xevious are cool (not so much with urban champion) but are they really classics? When 3D classics were announced, i thought i would be playing super mario, legend of zelda, earthbound and all those real classics, not some simple arcade games. why Nintendo would focus on arcade games and not actual hits is beyond me, heck, it's been confirmed that super mario bros, legend of zelda, and metroid, are NEVER going to become 3D classics. Why Nintendo, why?
All I really want is A Link To The Past and Super Mario Bros 3 as 3D Classics. Not all that interested in anything else tbh. But i do agree with you OP. I've never ever heard of Urban Champion, it was a really weird choice :S
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

i only have excite bike and urban champian; exite bike was free but i think urban champian is shallow and boring
Why buy Urban Champion and not Xevious (I know Urban Champion is a bit cheaper, but still...)? Urban Champion is fun once it starts to get a bit harder, but it just takes so long to get to that point that I haven't bothered trying a second time as of yet... On the other hand, Xevious is great fun and I'm really glad they chose that as one of the games... looking forward to Twinbee.
I'd love the idea of playing Mario and Zelda and all that in 3D but those are all games I've played plenty of times over the years so I don't really mind the idea of playing some lesser known games that I'm not so familiar with myself, as long as they're good quality games.
this very site says that nintendo said that they woulden't make the ambassitor games 3D classics, correct me if im wrong
I think you misunderstood. They said that the ambassador games wouldn't be 3D Classics. Meaning, the versions that would be free for download for ambassadors would be in their original form. They didn't mean that they'd never make those games into 3D Classics later on, and sell them to everyone.

i didn't buy xevious because i own the namco original version so i bought urban champion because i wanted to see if it was actualy as bad as people say it is
I can't imagine why Nintendo would make a game like SMB into a 3D Classic. What would they do, make the clouds and bushes look farther away? It seems kind of pointless to me.
In Excitebike, you're looking down at the track from an angle. In Xevious, you see the ground way down below you. Super Mario Bros doesn't have anything for depth to be applied to. The game and graphics operate in one layer.

That's what I was thinking. Most old school games just have hardly any opportunity to use 3D effectively.
No. It's nice that they're going for titles that haven't been released in one form or another in every (or nearly every) single console Nintendo has ever produced. Not trying to say a 3D Classics of Super Mario Bros wouldn't be neat, it's just not exactly rarefied - NES original, All Stars on SNES, SMB Deluxe on GBC, NES Classics on GBA, playable in Animal Crossing on GC, Virtual Console on Wii... I think the only consoles it hasn't appeared on are N64 and DS (but feel free to correct me there).
So I'm glad we're getting slightly less common titles like Xevious and Twinbee.

I can imagine Donkey Kong will, but it seems like they are just throwing the crap games. Maybe there's a reason specific NES games didn't come with the ambassador program, like Kid Icarus or Donkey Kong.
But that would be implying Nintendo is getting it's digital content right in some form. lol

This and quite honestly it's annoying that a lot of people assume anything non first party is crap. (I will agree though about Urban Champion) I like that they are going after less known games rather than rehashing every Nintendo game over and over again to death.
No, making a game into a 3-D classic would have to be a simpler game, which is why we see games like Urban Champion as a 3-D Classic. I've kind of figured out Nintendo's formula for this... it must be a very simple game with a limited amount of scenes that can be easily transformed into 3-D. They wouldn't make SMB a 3-D classic because of the huge variety of levels, that would take programmers FOREVER to turn into 3-D. Nintendo is only looking for simple games for this process which is why we have seen the mostly lackluster rollout that we've seen in that genre.
