I feel like there is less of a reason to get the New3DS than there was to get a DSi when that came out... Unless you just really want Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS. I won't get Xenoblade Chronicles 3D unless the Wii version blows my mind hole.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Well depends, Xenoblade is a ay bigger game than anything on the DSi was and it sounds like this just going to be the first of many games that will be exclusive to the new line of handhelds.
While it sucks for the West, everything hinges on if Nintendo can get Japan to upgrade to the new models in mass which is why they're launching before christmas and with bundled spcial options. If Japan gets the new than developers won't be as reluctant to support it.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

We will see what happens, just currently there isn't as many reasons to upgrade as there were for DSi (which I still didn't upgrade). I almost wish they just called this New3DS a new generation and said it was backwards compatible with 3DS and DS. then I think developers would be more interested in it and consumers would have less of a fear of buying a new system to play things their old system could... but I guess that isn't a problem for PS4 and XBO

My only complaint is the second uh, nub? Whatever it is, it doesn't look very comfortable to use. Other than that, depending on when it comes out and if the price is right, I'll probably pick it up since I still have the original.

"Nintendo, starting new generations before the competitors consoles are even a year old!"
but handheld generations are on a different cycle than "home consoles"
They're all technically in the same generation. The 3DS has only had three years compared to the ~5 that other consoles get. Why do you want it to end so early?
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I don't want to buy a system for 1 game. I have a 3DS XL already. I know I am not being forced to upgrade, just I don't like the idea of not being able to play 3DS games because they required the extra power. If it was a new generation then I would know the new system and extra power would be used by everyone. It is more of a personal thing than any real logic.

Well the days of confusing shoppers are long behind them then......
I'm guessing xenoblade chronicles will be the only exclusive. OR they'll need to come up with a new name for it. It just seems like a bizarre move to split the install base at this point. When they have games like pokemon and probably smash bros selling around 10 million, why make new games that will have a higher development cost but will only sell a fraction of that?
The thing that concerns me is the battery life. The battery life of the 3DS was a shame, but what if the new 3DS only lasts 2 and a half hours?
Yeah, I doubt it. Battery technology tends to constantly improve, not quite as fast as processing power but still impressively. Which is why the 3DS has more or less the same power intake as the DS, and the Vita has more or less the same power intake as the PSP (there might be slight differences, but all of their batteries are 5V I believe)
@TrueWiiMaster I agree here and I got no issues that they shouldn't make a new 3DS. If anything, I really want to get this as it looks to be the definitive version of the 3DS line up. That said, why did they include new buttons? what will they call the new 3DS? Just New? Because that creates a problem with the 3ds users already. What is the reason that Xenoblade can't run on the original when Nintendo can just reduce the pixels to 360 and make adjustments to the graphic power?
Look man, I've still yet to get the Wii U and I really do want to get that thing, but now I gotta get this new 3DS to play the next Metroid, Pokemon or Mario game even though the brand isn't different?
btw, I can't seem to find where the slot for the SD card is for the new 3ds? Is it something where you have to unscrew it and then place it or something?
I don't think it's just about resolution. Xenoblade features big environments, large enemies, and many characters on screen at once. After watching the video, I'd say the 3DS version is already a significant downgrade of the Wii version anyway.
At the moment we have no reason to think that every future 3DS game will only work with the new 3DS. I expect the new 3DS to work a lot like the N64 expansion pack. A few games will need it, and some will be better with it, but it won't affect most games. This isn't the 3DS's successor, but an upgrade to the 3DS.
The new 3DS uses micro SD cards, and you insert them under the removable (and swappable) face plates.
I am the TrueWiiMaster! Those who call the Wii casual BEWARE!
It just goes to show, that at least for Nintendo's handhelds, it is best to wait until their next handheld is announced ( a new generation), so that you know you'll get the last revision, lol. I knew I should have waited, but oh well. More than likely it will have very few "new"3DS specific games for it, just like it was for the DSi, that I got roped into hook, line, and sinker.
Looks cool, though, especially the throwback colored buttons design. Very cool.

There's no need for me to upgrade to New 3DS, assuming that the next generation of Nintendo handheld is backwards compatible with 3DS games including the ones that are exclusive to New 3DS
I doubt BC will be a thing with their next handheld. They will promote cross-play, with the next console. That's why the new 3DS was announced and implemented, as it may be a little longer for their next handheld generation, to match development time up more closely with the next generation
console.
3DS - March 27, 2011
WiiU - November 8, 2012
Next generation handheld announced at TGS 2015, released early 2016. Next gen console, released the very next year early 2017. That's 5 years, the normal generational cycle, which I think Nintendo will be glad to do to get this generation over with, and finally unify development, as they have been talking about so much for the past year or so...
That gives this version of the 3DS, a little over a year and a half of time on the market, which may not seem like much, but I don't think it's going to last as long as the DS. Sales are already lagging for it, and as I said, they want to implement their unified development to cut costs overall, going forward.
