i already have the original 3DS and it starting to wear down a bit so i might be looking for a new console. I dont really use the 3D and neither the circle pad because i mostly play VC games, so between the 2DS and 3DS XL which one should I pick?
Thanks

The 3DS XL has more battery life and a bigger screen, but the 2DS is very comfortable and an amazing handheld. But for me i would definitely choose the 3DS XL.

it really depends, do you play Kid Icarus Uprising?
do you care about the clamshell design, or the handheld's portability?
is the price difference between the 2DS and the 3DSXL unimportant to your decision?
becase if the answer for those is yes, get the XL
otherwise either is fine, as far as I know

Try the demo units somewhere.

I know the 2DS Circle Pad is far superior.

Not sure about how the screen size affects things.

I don't like the ergonomics of the 3DS XL when using the dpad without the Circle Pad Pro or something similar with it. (For more than 30 mins anyway).
The 2DS dpad is of a different type also.

I've tried both extensively, and I see no difference in the circle pad.

I find the general design of the 2DS to be uncomfortable, although it is, thankfully, MUCH harder to break than any of the other models.

The worst part about it is the shoulder buttons: there's not much of a click to them, and I'm never sure if I've pushed them in far enough to do what I need to do. They're HORRIBLE for games that require you to keep holding them down, too.

I tried 2DS at a store, immediately put it back. Did not even play on it. It was probaly because there was this huge cartridge attached to it with a cable. But the 3DS XL is very nice. Last time playimg it I had some cramp, but it's probaly because I didn't play on it for a while. After playing a littlw bit more it was comfortable again.

I can't really speak for long-term play. But immediately when I held a 2DS, it was comfortable in my hands.
The XL...not so much, it's large, heavy and decpite it's rounded edges it's still a strain on the hands.
