I don't think sleep bombing has ever been about making hunts faster (easier, perhaps), but rather breaking parts that are otherwise frustrating to get, most commonly Rajang and Alatreon for the horns (or skypiercers as it were).
I used to have a sleep bomb set in MH4U. Insect glaive while powered up with triple colors gets an incredible number of hits in the endless combo loop. Second probably only to dual blades I imagine.
I noticed the status values in Generations are much lower though. I was checking the charge blade tree and everything is capped at 15. What am I gonna do with a measly 15 sleep/poison/paralysis? Not even worth the bother. Not for CB anyways. And dual blades? Try just 2. Ya. Sleep status of just 2. There's a few solid poison DB but nothing good for sleep.

Nobody's shooting any Kinsect while the monster is sleeping. I played that game for 400 hours and never woke a monster up once without intentionally bombing them.
It's a great weapon for sleep bombing because of the number of hits per second while fully buffed. And I always stayed fully buffed. You only shoot a kinsect when you're actually getting your color buffs. And with extract extend that's not very often. You certainly wouldn't do it when the monster starts falling asleep.

I love what they did with the Lord of the Seas. Lagiacrus seems to have been given so many new moves which makes it a dangerous threat, and makes it a fun challenge. It seems to have changed a lot more than any other returning monsters other than the Great Jaggi, who changed his appearance, switched his name to Maccao and now hops around like a kangaroo
I'm still on low rank, currently on the 5 star village quests and the HR3 hub quests. It's still going to be a while before I'm high rank, but I'm making progress.
@Tsurii He does have a point about status Dual Blades, though. True value or not, their attributes are generally much lower than they were before, especially the paralysis ones. Just look at Shaka Scarecrows.
They're still not bad at it (I personally use a lot of interesting element/status DBs, including the thunder/para Khezu Daggers, ice/poison Snow Venom and ice/blast Twin Nails), but the status king mantle has clearly been taken by Sword & Shield now, with Insect Glaive as runner-up. They're still the best melee weapon for pure elemental damage, however.
@crimsontadpoles Indeed. I was sort of expecting they would just slap on Ivory's moveset and call it a day, but instead they reduced the randomness of a lot of his actions, both in the form of A.I always starting the battle by charging up and usually exiting rage with his super discharge, and said discharge relying less on random explosions. He even has a few dedicated combos, like his super-long stunning roar (guess the devs figured they had to give it to SOMEONE with no Bloses in the game...) coupled with charging up, and firing a quick electric ball to set up his bigger explosive shot. Crazy.

The next Nintendo Direct is in two days. I'm actually interested in what happens on the Japanese side of things, due to an important tidbit: last investor's meeting, Capcom listed an unannounced Monster Hunter project due out in Japan in Q1 2017. And before anybody says anything, this was well after Stories was made public.
So, basically what I'm thinking is: MH5 could be coming sooner rather than later, in Japan at least. Vanilla Monster Hunter 4 released in September 2013; Tri was released in August 2009, for comparison. Yes, it feels a bit early, but no previous generation was completely bound to the same hardware- 4, 4G/U, and X/Gen all were released on the 3DS with the engine being identical. Compare 3rd gen; Tri was on the Wii, Portable 3rd was the PSP's swan song, and 3G/U was released on 3DS.
So, if it shows up in the Japanese direct than I'm expecting 5G to be for the NX and get localized. If it doesn't show, then I'm assuming that 5 is an NX launch title- for Japan, anyway.
Of course, I may just be overthinking things.
@Tsurii Stories releases October 8th. Also, it's a spinoff and meant to start it's own franchise- it's not a main series entry by a long shot.
Anyways, here's an article on the investor's meeting: http://www.perfectly-nintendo.com/capcom-expects-sell-2-milli...
I made a slight mistake- April was the indicated month, not March.
And then there are the dates I mentioned- Monster Hunter 5 for 2017 makes sense, as the gaps between 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th gens were both four years.
Unless they really are going to do an XG release, this all feels a bit suspicious.
