It's awkward as hell that Mizutsune isn't weak to fire LIKE EVERY OTHER WATER MONSTER IN THE SERIES
There's zero reasons for it not to be, the only thing that differentiates it from the other water-focused monsters are the bubbles and those should pop when something heats them up. Part of why I prefer how monster hunter does the whole element thing is that it actually makes more sense for something with a wet skin to be weak to fire because it dries them out. And Mizutsune has fur too. Last time I checked fur can burn.
I get why Glavenus is weak to water, since it uses this oil-ish fluid that can be washed away and grinding its tail to heat it up (which is prevented by water cooling the tail) for its fire attacks. I get how the other two fit into the whole rock-paper-scissor+1 theme as well but Mizutsune seems like the odd one out to me.
/mini rant
And yeah. Screw Malfestio. He's beyond annoying if you're using anything that requires you to stick to its ass. He's a complete joke with ranged weapons tho.
Every single water monster in the series (except Lagiacrus, obviously) is also weak to thunder, even the Carapaceons.
Consider this: unlike every other Leviathan or Piscine Wyvern who is at serious risk of drying out if caught out of the water for too long, Mizutsune is the only one who can self-generate the moisture it needs. Being covered in foam makes it difficult for Mizu to catch fire, and even if it does it can just spread more foam, or spray water to douse it; it's flexibility makes it much easier for Mizu to do this than Plesioth.
For the record, Crag and Clust shots don't have critical distance either... and it may be true for status shots too, not sure. Though I do know that, unlike elemental shots, they do inflict noticeable raw.
As for Malfestio being annoying to stick close to, has anyone considered the Fortress Walls art? You can't run or evade, but gain a massive defence boost, become immune to all knockback and resist some status effects; I only know poison for sure but does it work for confusion?
...Looks like I'm gonna be farming a lot of Stonefist, going for his armor...
Do Deviants get extra moves and all that later on or something? So far they seem mostly the same as the original monsters with some minor differences and maybe one new attack... o.o

Keep it PG-13-ish.
That dead Kushala Daora in your pic only serves to remind me of the plight of low rank elder dragons.
Poor things... nobody wants to hunt them because they're not keys and harder than the average monster; why bother with their equipment when there's equally powerful, but relatively easier to acquire ones? It's a far cry from 4 Ultimate's endgame where the likes of Teostra and Chameleos were all anyone cared about.
How many people just ignored these poor souls until they decided they finally wanted some stuff from them, then just came back and steamrolled them with high rank gear without giving them a fair chance? Well, here's the weird things I noticed with these guys in low: Chameleos when not raging is so slow it almost looks funny when doing it's tongue rush, and when flash bombed uses it's toxic GTFO bomb even though it doesn't use it normally. And Teostra just spills out blood whenever his rage is disrupted.
Ok, I think this time I'm gonna solo one of the Deviants for Youtube instead. And then tomorrow I'll go online and hunt with someone for Stonefist (since he takes a while to kill, lol) and Dreadqueen. (because I hate Rathian, lol)

Seltas armor is amazing for CB/GL. Artillery Master, Razor Sharp, and Hero's Shield (negates damage that would just flinch you). Working on it as my "funsies" armor set, while the Dreadking grind starts to kick into gear (got a mounting +10 talisman that makes it even better for Aerial SA). Also finally able to gem in evasion +2 onto the Astral set with the right talisman- I might seriously try using Striker SA now.

@Tsurii That's a cool set dude ^^. I still need to farm some silver Narg VII and up so i can finish off my set... well i still want a sharpness tali or an awesome atk tali but haven't got anything good yet... I did get a +5 vault with 3 slots so maybe I could try aerial some times with my SA.
If you have a multi-slot weapon and a decent talisman, it's all well and good. I'm running Guard+1 on it through that.
And failing that, you could just use the adept styles for blocking weapons, which doesn't need guard+ skills to work.
It seems this game's low Arc (Shagaru) set is the equivalent of the Helios armour from 3U; powerful (for the rank it's accessible in) last-minute armour before moving up. Peak performance and the earliest way to get a sharpness+ skill (needs two Handicraft gems for +1, and it just so happens that the set has two pieces with two slots to put them in).
