Topic: Monster Hunter Generations (Our Toothy Lord and Savior)

Looking back it probably would've been more interesting and easier to have the Macco armor set, though I managed to make the Tetsucabra armor set so that should help me until I find some more interesting Low Rank armor.

@Tsurii I'll have to try that myself. Overpowered long sword sounds like just the thing I need to blitz through the village quests.

@Tsurii Honestly I've had more problems with SA users screwing around with the Axe mode than LS users tripping people up.

Made a Tetsu armor set as my starter. Not really doing much single player this time I don't think. Started hunting online and I'm leaning toward just spending all my time there hunting with friends.

I do plan to farm a Nargacuga set when I get to him, and use that into high rank until I can farm a proper HR Nargacuga set. I like the Evasion and Evade Extend, and lots of slots to gem in earplugs (HG earplugs with the right talisman).

Now that Sharpness +1 has become Sharpness +2 with a lesser in-between S +1 for +10 Handicraft, I deem it too expensive a skill to really chase after. To attain Sharpness +2 in this game you could easily forfeit 2-3 other skills- good ones at that. I'd rather upgrade Evasion +1 to +2 and add HG Earplugs. Damage dealt has never been one of my lacking virtues anyways.

Sharpness +2 would've been great...IF THEY LEFT PURPLE SHARPNESS IN THE GAME! >.>

I was hoping to make it to my final low rank urgent today, guess that's not happening. Some of these last monsters are actually taking a good 20 minutes now, which is weird seeing how all the other monsters took me 10 minutes. >.>

Who's still in low rank anyways? Maybe I can record a Deviant video with a friend or something...

I'm still in low rank, and I'm even further behind. I'm on 3 Stars with the villages, and 2 Stars in the Hunter Hub.

Ya, always hated that method though. It's tricky to time and if you're not looking right at the monster you don't know if they're going to roar and then you have to learn when exactly the roar is for each and every monster in the entire game, and even then you're going to mess up, miss some, be turned around or not looking, indisposed or otherwise incapable of trying. I decided a long time ago not to go down that route. Getting stopped by roars is a personal pet peeve of mine so earplugs are an absolute must.

I don't do attack up, although razor sharp is nice. Been playing MH a long time, and I go for the same skills every time, sometimes which of them will differ depending on charm or mixed set, but it's always

Evasion +2 (Eva +3 in MH4U)
Evade Extend
HG Earplugs
Sharpness +2 (Sharpness +1 in previous games)

And sometimes another skill if the mixed set makes it easy to get. Speaking of, I'll probably go down the mixed set route this time as well. I've been keeping my eye out for a good mixed set that can get me all the above skills. I can probably nail everythjng but the Sharpness with just a Narga set and good charm. But I know there's got to be a good looking mixed set that can squeeze in sharpness +2 or razor sharp, maybe speed sharpening on the side.

I like that bubbles skill though. Too bad it's only evasion +1 though, and too bad they stripped out evasion +3. I had become quite pampered with that many i-frames.

Axe mode does do more damage per hit on average, and the hack n' slash is one of the best damage outputs you'll see... but unless you're using a status Switch Axe with an element phial (why they still insist on making the specific ailment and dragon phials when they're far inferior is beyond me... at least Charge Blade understands it only needs two kinds of phials: raw and elemental), the sword mode is going to be doing much more damage overall, and it only gets worse when you factor in the new sword-boosting arts. The axe in this case is thus mostly relegated to hitting things the sword just can't reach, or to better position for more sword-swinging with it's mobility. The final reason to use axe mode, letting the sword gauge recharge, is rendered moot in Generations with the Energy Charge art.

Just did my own personal RIP Great Macco. The the quest with two of them in the village, with the second Maccao getting first hit and dying to demon-charged Trance Slash III. Wish I had a capture card.

Wait what? They removed purple sharpness??

Oh man. That coupled with the whole +15 Handicraft for same results as previous entries really nerfs sharpness modifiers. How common is natural white sharpness in this game?

No idea, I'm guessing 50/50...I just know that every single weapon out there doesn't have Purple at all...even with +2. That also includes ALATREON'S weapons... :/

EDIT: I just checked a few weapon trees, no sign of Purple at all.

Portable 3rd (which had the same director) has no purple sharpness; makes sense it would happen here.
Natural white is kinda rare; there's a fair amount of weapons out there with it, but it's still rare.
Also, there's the new blunt skill- it buffs your attack the lower your sharpness is (+20 for green, +25 for yellow, +30 for red). However, due to your attacks being less powerful (70%) at the start and end of their animations in yellow sharpness and below, blunt mostly favors green sharpness weapons- making all the high-raw, low-sharpness weapons much more viable.

If (when) I ever accidentally hit any of you with my "third note" attack (hunting horn ground pound), I was just trying to get the double note for a song.

Oh but I do often see myself tripping other players with that attack.

It's like....

Me:"Ok all clear I can do it."
<attacks>
<Person appears out of nowhere to attack the same part of the monster/blast reaches person on the other side of the monster>
Me:"Oops."

The funny thing is, the other X+A Hunting Horn attack, the reverse overhead, is pretty much exactly as powerful as the superpound's strong hit, without all the startup or annoying launches.

Oh yeah, it can be a bit easy to do the ground pound instead though.

Since for that one you need to be perfectly still, if you move the circle pad at least a bit, it does the pound.
