@Joeynator3000 OK, but as you're doing that try to think of things you could've done to avoid such a failure. Upgrade your gear, different weapon/styles, nutrients or Max/Ancient Potions to recuperate after a faint (important for long-haul hunts when not using Foodie)... Thunderlord handed my rear to me a few times before I tuned up my Rajang armour and switched to an Adept style.

Meh, I rather not think about it...like I said I was doing fine the second time until I got cheap-shotted twice at the end. :/

EDIT: In case anyone wants to see my first attempt and watch me fail horribly....

My advice is...

The hunting horn is mine >:[

Nah, but what @Tsurii said is true. Keep the buffs on constantly, specially the basic one... Just don't stay playing the horn too long. The attacks may be strong, but they're also slow and lock you in place. Dodge out of them as soon as you can.

A slow musician is a dead musician.

In addition to that, make sure to select a good horn with good songs for the occasion. Tsurii mentions sonic bombs, maybe you could bring a horn with yellow notes for easy sonic booms, or equip the hunter art that does the same thing. Though the one that makes all notes doubles is also really good.

For hunting horn I wouldn't recommend aerial style, the leaping might end up putting you in danger. Adept really helps with dodges, specially since you'll be really close and personal most of the time. But maybe that's just me.

About the attacks, you're playing alone, don't be afraid of using the ground pounds.

All the times I've fought him to craft the armor and weapons, I've never seen one hunter die to Nakarkos' huge red laser. I think Gogmazios was a bit better in that respect: you knew that it's oil and molten oil beams meant buisness.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

@Tsurii I thought the tranqs were used for stopping the dragon beam, not his charges.

@Haru17 Probably because Gogma could aim those beams to a very significant degree, and you couldn't be sure if he was gonna sweep it or focus the blast (the size of which also wasn't easy to determine). Despite the story hullaballoo, the multi-faceted, exciting level was made for him, not Daora. All we get for Nakarkos is a flat, circular arena with two ballista.

I also fail to see the appeal behind much of his gear. Bone versions of his weapons speak for themselves (news flash: Akantor weapons do what they do much better), and infinite blue sharpness on the alternate versions isn't worth the sub-par raw; only the gunlance benefits by getting around it with shells. As for the armour, bone: if I want a set with Resentment, I'll go for Redhelm. Now, if someone could explain how skill that increases hunter art power "when the chance arises" works...

Honestly, next time I'm just gonna stick with a Gunlance...lol

@Tsurii Meh. I'll stick with my Rajang armour which also charges arts faster and gives an attack boost not reliant on some iffy conditions. Taunt can also synergize well with Striker's ability to build charge from taking damage, as long as your defence is up to snuff, of course. (Gunner version gives Sneak instead).

I just can't shake the feeling that whatever the Astral weapons try to do (except the bowguns), something out there does it way better. As a compulsive sharpener, I didn't think much of Seregios weapons beyond the slow-depleting Great Sword at first, but then it became apparent that the ability to stay at the highest sharpness (not the second-highest) along with solid raw, affinity and slots with the right setup is a huge boon. As for faster hitting weapons, it's better to seek out higher elements than sharpness (to which it gives a relatively smaller benefit), which means, for dragon at least, either Alatreon or Gore/Shagaru.

Hyper Yian Garuga annoyed me. I was trying to defeat it with the Light Bowgun, but got carted for the 3rd time a few minutes before the 50 minutes was up. I was taking more risks since time was so low.

I know I can solo that, and I need his parts to upgrade my Gunner armour, but I'm a little annoyed with it so I might give it a few days before trying again.

While we're talking about Hypers, Tigrex actually stood out for me in that they actually modified some of his behaviour to make it easier (he taunts more, after every multi-charge, and after several uses of his snowball throw after charging) in order to avoid a repeat Freedom Unite fiasco, but also slipped in some tricks (the aforementioned snowball followup, and a fake charge).

Well, since I got a shiny Vulpix and decided to keep it, I'm gonna go back to this game. If I'm not able to kill Nakarkos myself I might just go online with some of you and record that hunt instead. (as long as the battle remains to be about 20-ish minutes or more, because I like long battles. lol) We'll see what happens.

I don't know right now, I want to see if I can handle Nakarkos on my own. I'm pretty sure I can, just had horrible luck last time. (seriously...getting one-shotted by the big dragon beam the moment I land into the area after being carted before...WTF game?!)
