I see lots of people that fall of the ledge and just bounce back up again. Other times I see people jump forward. I got to the finish line first one time. But I came in 3rd when there wasn't anyone near me. I was first until I passed the finish. I don't like hackers.
Also a couple days ago, noone on the race had finished yet, but was in 5h place and a blue shell came up and blew up on me. Why is that?
Also whats a good kart-Wheel-Glider combo?
MarioKart7 Is on it's way =D Should be here any day now. 3DS FC: 4382-2021-4248 Rowanrat3D Please add me and tell me!

That is just what happens with some peoples connection. Although they are racing normally, it will seem to you that they're jumping all over the place as the game takes a while to update.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Like others have said, people jumping forward and that stuff is most likely network lag. The player who keeps jumping around isn't doing any of that and they don't see it on their screen. About the blue shell hitting you in 5th, was there anyone close to you? If there was, the shell may have actually targeted them and you just got caught in the blast. If no one was close to you, how did you know that no one had finished yet? Are you absolutely sure? The weight class of your character actually matters more than your kart or wheels, but there are several good options. If you prefer lighter karts with good acceleration I would use a lightweight character (toad, koopa, shy guy or lakitu) with the Soda Jet and sponge tires or wood wheels. If you are willing to put up with worse speed than that for slightly better acceleration and offroad, use Egg 1 instead. If on the other hand you like heavier and faster karts with less acceleration, use a heavyweight (bowser, wario, metal mario or honey queen) with the B Dasher and slick or gold tires. Please beware that this combo and the ones below will absolutely kill your handling, so you need to be extra careful when taking tight corners. Again you can substitute Egg 1 if you want. For much better offroad use the red monster tires. However they give worse speed and handling than slick tires. Use Soda Jet and mushroom tires with a lightweight for above average speed, acceleration, and handling, but low weight and offroad. The glider doesn't matter that much, but ise anything except for Super Glider, Beast Glider, or Gold Glider for slightly better acceleration at the expense of weight. BTW, has anyone ever dodged a blue shell with a mini-turbo like in MKDS? I'm pretty sure you can't but some random guy on youtube says he did it by accident and since the game has only been out for a few weeks I don't think anyone really knows for sure...it could just be that the timing is extremely difficult. I've been experimenting with different amounts of speed and acceleration but I haven't even managed to have red sparks charged up when a blue shell comes.

I think red shells have gotten A LOT better in this game. And I mean a lot. I have a lot more trouble dodging them or outrunning them than I used to with other MKs. Tracking was rough before, but it's like somebody wrote your name on it and sacrificed a small animal for the kind of magic they use to get to you. Haha.
I'm not sure what that had to do with my comment, but yeah, I've only dodged several red shells before without dragging an item; most of those times I somehow swerved around another item or track obstacle and the shell hit it, but one time I drifted really loosely around a corner and came really close to the opposite wall, and then the shell hit that wall for some reason. I haven't been able to do that again; I'm not even sure exactly what happened.

Okay, so I'm late to this Mario Kart 7 party but I bought the game a few days ago. I played through the easy cup and unlocked the playable mii option but sadly I'm on el cheapo (as in free) apartment internet here so my 3DS is only online when I visit family and friends now. I played a few games online for the first time tonight at my buddy's house and I am happy to report that that was the smoothest, most intuitive online experience I have ever had from Nintendo. Zero lag with full on 3D and eight players going head to head from across the globe is a pretty big feat for any video game system and from a portable one outside ios is nearly unheard of. My hat is off to the developers of this game. Job well done!
@Tare I don't think you can either, but on a youtube vid of a blue shell dodge someone commented that he/she dodged one "by accident" with a mini-turbo. Now I of course know that I should take their claim with as much salt as I like, but that comment got me interested in trying to find out if it really is possible to dodge with a mini-turbo. I haven't been successful yet, but I'm not completely convinced that it's impossible yet. My problem is that I usually don't have red sparks charged up when a blue shell comes, and when I do I always release the L button way too late, after I've already been hit. I'll keep trying...at least I have dodged tens of shells already with mushrooms. I've found that I'm rather good at making sure that I have a mushroom in 1st and dodging a shell with it; I've missed less than 5 dodges so far. BTW, I think I know why I dodged the red shell by drifting close to the wall. The red shell doesn't just home in on you, it always goes for the back of your kart which means that even if you're going around a tight turn the shell won't hit you from the side, it'll always go around to directly behind you before hitting you. When I drifted close to the opposite wall from the corner the back of my kart was nearly touching the wall. The shell hit the wall because it was trying to circle around to the back of my kart, which was facing towards the wall. Now that I know how that maneuver works, I will try to dodge another shell with it. I might also try to get the shell to fall off the road on tracks with few or no walls (Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road). Also, does anyone know if there's a maximum amount of VR you can gain in one online race? My first goal is to get 5000VR (my ultimate goal being of course to get 10000VR) and I'm at around 2300 right now.

I have to say. Time Trialing has really stepped up my game on the courses I practice. I've been running a lot of trials on Mario Circuit 2, for instance. I can beat the course in 1:23 seconds on a clean run. I decided to pick it on World Online. At first I was keeping pretty steady with the pack, but the moment we hit the boost ramp and I flew over the corner, hit the bumper, and drifted through the finish line, I had a clean lead. Shortly after that I got a triple mushroom (just like you start out with time trial mode), used it to boost through the proper spots, and played the course like a time run, and I never lost 1st. Of course, no lightning or blue shell hit me that race, so that's fortunate.
ANYWAY. I've started to realize how much more you intimately get to know a course when you practice it in Time Trial and not in the frantic grand prix or vs modes online. It's just you and the track with you learning the proper points to drift to shave seconds off your time. That really gave me a massive edge on the map.
Does anyone know why in Spot pass why the ghost data shows up in random spots? You know what I'm talking about? Just curious. Also, I have had some community updates in that with pictures of a bunch of Toads, but I have never found out what the updates are.

Well I can see I was the last one to make a post in this...which was yesterday...I hope someone sees this!
I have already beat all of the cups including mirror mode in Mario kart 7, but one thing I am not sure about is what all ways you can get coins. Grand Prix races seem to work, but from what I saw, after I played the coin runners game against the computer (did a full round of 4), I went to the MK Channel, and it said my number of coins was the same as it was before. Can you not keep the coins you get in coin runner?? What all modes do you keep the coins you get, and do you have to do a full round of Grand Prix or coin runners (4 races or coin battles).

You can't keep the coins you get in Coin Runners, but you can keep them in Grand Prix, Balloon Battle, Time Trials, and even online races. Not sure about local multiplayer, never had a chance to try that yet. I'm not sure if you have to complete all 4 races in GP or Balloon Battle, but in Time Trials and online mode your coins are updated after each race. However, to get any parts you may have unlocked by collecting coins online, you have to restart the game. Hope this helps! BTW someone said a lot earlier in this thread that you can make karts with both good acceleration and weight. Does anyone know such a combo? I haven't been able to come up with a kart that has both more than 3 acceleration and weight yet.

Thanks for the reply on that! Too bad about coin runners though. Anybody knows anything about keeping coins or not for just doing one or two races in GP without finishes feel free to jump in!

I was looking at the MK7 strategy guide, and apparently car parts have a lot of stats that aren't shown in game. The gliders have a whole list of stats such as in air control that aren't shown in game. The tires have different control for on land and in water and there is also a drift stat like in MK Wii. If the kart parts actually have all these stats, why not show them in the actual game. It's not the first time a MK game has had hidden stats, though.

@samuraiShyGuy i know exactly what you mean, my brother got the guide and told me all the stats and i was like "wut"? so now i know what parts are perfect for racing.

^Do you know which kart with more than 4.5 (out of 6) acceleration gets the strongest mini-turbos? How good is that kart's offroad and handling? Also, do characters in the same weight class have subtle differences or are they all identical stat-wise? And I thought your drift stat was the same as or directly proportional to your handling. At least that's what it feels like.

@neonshell7 i dont know all that right now, i would have to call my brother.. but yes, the charcters in the same weight class have different stats. And the drift is easier with the small characters, meaning the sparks change color quicker (you can hardly tell tho compared to the heavier classes) I love the mini turbo :3 so thats how i set my kart up (i dont care about speed or handling, just mini turbo) This is what i use for mini turbo/ good land ,and water handling, and air speed Koopa clown, wood wheels, and beast glider, and any feather class character (shyguy, or lakitu) this is a great combo for me
