Does the eShop version contain both releases? So does it contain both Conquest and Birthright?

Is Revelation the DLC?

How long does it take to get to Chapter 6 so I can access the DLC store?

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika So Conquest and Birthright are the base game and the opposite game is DLC along with Revelation as DLC? Also, do you get to choose the base game on the eShop? I've only just seen it as simply titled, Fire Emblem Fates.

Glad to also hear Chapter 6 doesn't take that long.

Fire Emblem Fates was an odd release that was, IMO, handled poorly and can be confusing. There are three main routes: Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation. To quote myself from another thread, here's a brief rundown of each path:

On the Fire Emblem Fates entries:

  • Birthright is the more beginner-friendly of the two since, like Awakening, you can endlessly grind your units against baddies. The plot is somewhat decent, if predictable. Conversely, many of the maps are meh at best and many of the characters available on this side are ho-hum.
  • Conquest is closer to classic FE games where the difficulty is harder and (outside of DLC) the experience you can gain is limited. This one has more fun/innovative maps and objectives and has some pretty fun units. The plot, however, could make much more logical sense. Edit: I was too nice here. The plot is holier than Swiss cheese. Play this entry for the characters and gameplay, not the plot.
  • The Revelation route, outside of a rare cartridge that contains all three paths, is DLC-only and is why I haven't played it. This attempts to marry the two "main" routes mentioned above and claims to push the true plot, which is hinted at in the other two stories; how well this is pulled off depends on who you ask online lol. The feedback I've seen regarding the maps is all over the place.

As outlined by Eagly, if you're buying all three paths digital, you shouldn't pay more than $80 (before tax). You will need to buy either Birthright or Conquest as the "base" game at $40. Then the other two routes should be bought as DLC for $20 apiece. Be very careful if buying through the eShop since Birthright and Conquest 's retail and DLC versions appear in search results.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika @Tyranexx Right, I think I understand now. Think in this case is the keyword here. It's still a bit confusing. The only thing that's not good for me in any of the posts here is the price in USD as I'm buying from the UK eShop. Either way, I doubt that'll make much of the difference. I appreciate both of your help trying to understand this mess. Thank you!

@Jamie64326 Oops, apologies; I usually try to remember to consider region when offering advice and forgot to in this case. My guess is the retail versions are priced from £35-£40. Then the DLC paths should be roughly half that amount apiece.

In any case, happy to help!

I'd just like to thank everyone who helped me out with Fire Emblem Fates. I've now got the game and all the extra paths. £17.99 for Conquest and £17.99 for Revelation. I'm playing it slightly casually as I'm not the biggest strategy player, but I'm enjoying it.

Happy to help! Also glad you're enjoying the games. If it's any consolation, I usually play on Casual Mode for most runs in the games that allow it. I've played Classic mode in older games when there was no choice and became very stressed trying not to lose anyone. 😅

@Tyranexx I'm glad there's an option for no perma-deaths in the game.

Finally got around to confirming what I thought about the Japanese digital "Special Edition", since I'm probably one of only a few English speakers who played it. (Surely the western digital versions... were... literally the same as the physical versions.)
This information is too late for anything but historical reference, but at the beginning of Chapter 6, it asks the player to choose a side. At which point, after finishing the chapter, it will access the eShop and download DLC to turn the game into the corresponding version.
So I guess if one were to have previously downloaded the Special Edition and never played it to that point (as I raced to make that not the case), it would become a non-finishable game.

Time actually played, not more than a few hours. And that is from watching the cutscenes (which honestly were most of the game time to that point) and failing a few times on chapter 5 and once on chapter 6. (Actually had to finish chapter 5 twice, because the first time the cutscene after crashed the game! I'd check if it was a repeated problem but decided it was better to skip it.)
