I'm all for same sex marriages but I remember in Awakening I used to pair guys with guys and girls with girls alot so I wouldn't have someone accidently falling in love in a mixed gender pair and prevent getting the children I wanted with the classes I wanted.
That wouldn't work. Same-sex relationships in Awakening all max out at A and there was no limit on how many supports you get. You need S for marriage/children. Besides, support conversations are all initiated manually, so if you didn't want a pairing to happen, you could just ignore the conversation.
Unrelated, apparently you do not get any EXP outside of main story chapters in the Nohr version, so grinding is not possible. This is gonna be good. ;D
That's the point so it wouldn't work and it would free up someone to pair without that worry.
Oh, I see what you're saying. I thought by "pair," you meant actually getting the support levels for those characters. My bad.
You can still just ignore the convos though.

I'm sure the Tomodachi Life comments are still in the minds of the site's team, and they were tame compared to other sites I decided to check out.
(Well, best step into the firing line).
I must say I'm glad that the NL team has been impartial and professional in their news report by simply stating the facts and how this provides more choice and freedom to players and caters to the wishes of many of the fans of the series. Unlike other sites that are acting like they've just announced the cure for every known illness on the planet (oh wait, didn't North Korea announce that recently?)

I thought that too but I got a S pairing on a couple I didn't want to happend so I ignored it and left the conversation alone but then I could never get a coupling I wanted upto S afterwards as possibly one of them had a S relationship waiting. It could be becasue they didn't get enough time to together but I spent hours grinding them together and I couldn't be bothered with it anymore towards the end of it.
@Tsurii - Oh, sorry; you're right about that. I just saw the NL article on it and didn't know beforehand. My bad.
Wait; so the same-sex marriage only applies to those two characters; right?
Didn't mean to correct you, I was just wondering about that myself
And yes, it's only those two. As I said, not that much and I feel it's kinda...wrong to "force" people who want the option to have a male/female partner in this, in a same-sex relationship obviously, to get a specific version of the game ( maybe that's just me)
I see what you mean. The option is there and third version will have both characters, which is nice . I'm not into same-sex relations myself but if I was; I imagine I'd be thankful for the options though a bit off-put by the limitations.
First off, I think its kind of funny that Nintendolife has to censor comments on an article that talks about same-sex marriage inclusion. Apparently they don't think much of their 'family-friendly' userbase. Not saying they're wrong, but maybe something to reflect on when people say this is one of the friendliest places on the internet.
As for the content, while it is awesome that they included this, it is ridiculously stupid that the two homosexual characters are seperated into different game versions. Once again it's just splitting content for the sake of doubling the games price. This Pokemon-styled double game rip-off would not be accepted from any company besides Nintendo, and the practice is so cheap. It's gotten bad enough that I probably wont be buying this game when it comes out. Awakening is one of my favourite games of all time, but I wont support such a terrible practice.
If you wanted to for example, have a same sex marriage between your female character and the gay female character in the game, you'd have to pick one version. What if that version isn't the one who's story you want to follow though? What if it's not the one who's difficulty matches what you want to play? What if its not the one who's gameplay style matches the one you want to play? Nintendo have added more and more differences between the two versions just to ensure that people cannot have the experience they want with one version. This could have all been added under one package, but instead its being separated just for a lazy cash grab.
I originally wanted only birthright but i want the male gay relationship because that would relate to me more but thats only in conquest and the third path.....would I be a complete fool if I bought both birthright and conquest?
What saddens me is that I still don't understand the point of the game having two versions. So what if I want to get physical copies of both the games? Can the game allow me to play physical copies for both?
Also about the sex marriage......why is everyone hyped about it? If anything, it might tarnish the brand if its done badly. I'm getting worried a bit here about this. Sure, its optional but why the hype for it?

It's probably cheaper to just buy the other version as DLC like in the Japanese version rather than retail..
@arronishere - The good ol' days of Awakening, eh?
Also, the games' are Zelda Oracle-styled than Pokémon. Won't deny that it's all for the sake of cash but imo, one shouldn't be buying a version of the game for the same-sex option anyway. It's not the main focus of Fates, the difficulty difference and story is.

Not really, then again I am a bit of a completionist / collector so I was planning on buying both just for the 2 covers from the day it was announced.

A straight releationship could tarnish the brand if done badly. It's a talking point and something legitimately different so yeah, it's creating interest.
I'ma let you rant to your heart's content, but Hoshido and Nohr are each complete, full-sized games. Combined, the two versions are about 3x the size of Awakening. Calling it a "rip-off" is like calling The Lord of the Rings a rip-off because you had to buy 3 movie tickets to see one story.

You wouldn't be a complete fool - you having to buy both versions to get what you want out of their game is what they're bargaining on. It's just a really sucky thing to do to your consumers for the sake of more sales.

In fairness Lords of the Rings didn't need 3 movies to tell a story about people walking to a mountain, everything was inconsequential.
Kind of sad that NL had to disable comments in the news article in fear of brashly homophobic comments and the like... I mean, if that was the reasoning behind it.
Personally I am all for it for the people who'd like it, although it'd be nice if the article's translation was mistaken at parts because from how it reads I'm getting the idea that there is only one possible homosexual relationship on each side, which is kind of limited.
The size of the games doesn't excuse the fact that as a consumer, if I only had enough money for, or was only willing to buy one full priced £30-40 game, I'd have to choose between two versions that purposefully leave content out of one just so that you will buy the other. Console game prices are already pretty high; this method of sale is just a way to ensure people buy both games by leaving content out of one.
If they wanted to tell two stories so big that they each needed their own game, then fine, but why does one need to be stuck with a higher difficulty level and not the other? Why can't you just leave in the difficulty or game options? Why do they need to cut one sex out of the gay marriage for a game when adding in two for each side would have been no problem? They aren't creating real reasons to buy both games (e.g. by creating interesting storylines or good characters for each that makes you want to actually experience both sides), they're simply splitting content to get sales in a cheap way.

Oh, so what did you think of the ending of the Nohr storyline?

I am going to wait and see if there will be a special edition with both games because I do want both box art now(And it will look good next to my pokemon games which I too often get both versions because I am a loser).
Its ironic the only games I will be getting that I know next year are FE:F and the crossover.
