Thank goodness I didn't pick to use Zander as my name in Fates though, it's sometimes my nickname in exchange for Alex. It would have been awkward with "Xander" in the game as a prominent character. It's already weird enough when it sounds like my full name arguing with myself in Birthright. ALEX XANDER.
@AlexOlney so will you be using Arthur Olney when Fates comes to Europe?
@Ralizah I'm pretty sure they would since they play an important part in the story. Plus in the next chapter depending on the path you choose, he will either be an ally of an enemy.
Also what does he say when he dies? If he just says something like he has to pull out from the battle, but can still fight then it will be fine.
@Ralizah Anyone who dies before Chapter 6 is revived as they simply "retreat" should they die before that chapter. I thought I lost Kaze and Rinkah early only to see them show up again on the chapters they're properly brought in for Birthright.
Eh, I left him to die/retreat/whatever. I think his fate in that chapter is purely down to the RNG, considering making even one wrong move in this chapter can get most of your units pretty brutally slaughtered. As long as I can use him later, that's all I care about.
I did keep resetting to make sure nobody else kicked the bucket, though. Took awhile, but I found a way. While that chapter was kind of frustrating, I do like that I'm not just mindlessly mowing through the enemies like I was on hard mode in Awakening.
@Detective_TeeJay: I agree with Lugia. The fun in a Fire Emblem game is trying to get through it in a way that everyone lives. The games are much more exacting and tactical if you consider almost every unit invaluable rather than expendable.
Although I would like to do a run of FE7 one day where I don't reload, and whoever dies, dies. Kind of like a Nuzlocke run of Pokemon.
And right here in Europe we are hearing, seeing and reading spoilers (or trying to avoid them) just hoping that the game will at least come to us at some point...
@Ralizah: When I played FE7 everytime I quit it wouldn't save, so I had to go through the whole game making sure I don't make a mistake because I couldn't restart. I think it made it more enjoyable than if I played restarting after every death.
Whew, finally beat Ch. 10 on Hard/Classic on Conquest. I had to rely on Camilla a lot, so Beruka wasn't able to get exp. It was a very difficult chapter, but a really fun and good one.
@DetectiveTeeJay
I agree with what TheLastLugia said. You're going to have to use strategy on Classic mode, and each time a unit death, you can learn from that and improve your strategy after resetting. I've also lost a lot of perfect level ups due to resets.
Can anyone tell me, is it worth getting BOTH the new versions of Fire Emblem? I still don't understand the concept that it's two different cartridges but I'm really interested in getting them. Can anyone briefly explain what the difference is between them?
@Recalibr
Yes, it is worth getting both(or all three) or at least one version and the third path. Each version is a different game, with the exception of the first six chapters. Birthright is more like Awakening. It's the easy version, there's infinite grinding, and the maps are like Awakening. Conquest is more like traditional FE games, but the superior version in my opinion The characters are better(imo), maps and objectives are better and more varied and it is a lot harder than Birthright. Conquest hard is harder than Awakening's hard. Conquest also doesn't allow grinding for experience or gold outside of DLC. You can grind support though.
Okay I just saw a Vine go by on Tumblr with Fates in it, basically it was the thing where you save the game, then you're like "wait did i just save?" so you save again, I lol'd because this is the first game in ages I've done that to. I can't have any redoings in Fates.
@Rexcalibr: First six chapters, which are very short, are shared between each version. After that, they become different, full-length games. You can download the other two paths digitally for $20 each after buying either Birthright or Conquest.
@BurningSonic: Seems like a thrilling way to play the game, but I can't stomach the thought of doing it in my first playthrough and potentially making the game unwinnable if I have a brain fart.
FE7 seems like a game that begs for multiple playthroughs, though. Especially considering how many support conversations there are to be had!
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@TingLz: Dunno how it was in awakening, but it seems that here, if you are at higher level, you either pick the golden faceless one on one with someone with good speed and defense, or just use ranged weapons.
Thankfully the golden faceless just try to get to the sigil, It would be pretty difficult if they targeted you, with some of the skills they have, might as well be a pre-apotheosis style lol.
Is anyone actually using captured units? I was using one for a while and then he died when things got crazy, but besides that you can't interact with them much so it was kind of just like having a drone. But maybe if you've had a lot of people die and you need captured people to help? I only did it to test it out, not sure if that was an option in Awakening, since besides healers I skipped out on Singers or anyone who could Rally or do some strange extra I couldn't figure out, or it wasn't useful. It just never worked out, but now we're singing, rallying and capturing for farts and giggles.
@rishisquid
Yes it does(at least the experience DLC and Before Awakening scales). I don't think Beach Party scales though.
It isn't FE until you lose because of a last second crit. Conquest Ch. 13, I got the map down to just Takumi. I used Benoit to tank him, who could have easily taken the 16 damage that Takumi did, but Takumi had a crit on the last shot. Dang, I was so close. Oh, and Felicia + Flame Shuriken is OP.
@Dankykong I believe that capturing was only available in Thracia 776 before Fates.
I'm just using it to capture boss characters mainly since they are more unique characters I guess.
