@ReaderRagfihs Yeah, I know it releases today (5/2), but was thinking as it seems like some kind of "best of" that it could be a good starting point and easy to get hold of as it's new.
@Ralizah Thanks! I live in Sweden so these games aren't the easiest to find unless I import, but I think some Swedish web stores have IV.
I'm still shocked we got 3 new entries in the series for the 3ds. Crazy! I'm also surprised they haven't done untold 3 tbh. Why not just get them all on the 3ds but it's probably too late now.

In fairness, Etrian 3 was the one least in need of a remake. It holds up much better than the first two DS games (even though I have a nostalgic love for the, by modern series standard, incredibly rough original game), and I don't think the Untold games were selling as well as the original entries.
Between EO IV, V, Nexus, Untold, Untold 2, Persona Q, PQ2, and Mystery Dungeon (two Mystery Dungeons, in fact, if you include the unlocalized sequel), Atlus did go pretty nuts with the EO games on 3DS. Actually, Atlus went nuts in general with the 3DS.
Speaking of PQ2, I'm surprised they're releasing it so close to Nexus.
@Delibheel You mean like the original game? I remember the first 2 games were hard and you had to fight a few enemies then run and heal till you leveled up a bit. IV felt like a breeze compared to the start of those 2.

Well the early enemies seem to be a bit strong, and the dungeon hazards are just mean.
Never played the DS originals, so I can't compare to that.
I'm playing in basic, btw.
My current team consists of a protector, sovereign, gunner, arcanist and a farmer. I'm liking the group healing/buffing/binding/status effecting these characters can pull off. Specially the arcanist, so glad they're back.

Good luck with that. Unless they changed something, the farmer is a liability in any serious battle.
You really need to play on the harder difficulty if you want something approaching the DS original's level of difficulty. The first couple of games were notorious for having enemies viciously curb-stomp your squishy new party the moment you entered the labyrinth, and being filled with nasty environmental surprises even early in the games. That ever-present sense of danger added to the allure of adventuring, though. Modern Etrian games aren't nearly as brutal.
Can't say I care much about difficult games. I'd rather just go at a pace I can enjoy.
About the farmer, again, I didn't play the original DS games so this is a brand new class for me.
I see some promising utility and support skills in her skill tree, and in the meantime she can shoot away safely with her gun from the back row. So she's fine for now. Time will tell if I replace her eventually.
Dang idk if I should get this now or wait for a price drop that will inevitably come, as I have like 4 unplayed 3DS games and am in the middle of EOU2 atm.

God loves you
Going Expert here. Too many options to start with for difficulty lol. I remember when you just started a game. I'm glad though they made the games accessible to more people. I can see myself stuck on the characters select screen for a good hour as I'm not sure where to start. This feels like the Smash Bros of Etrian games. I sure hope I don't need a specific skill from someone I neglected like half way through the game.

@Spoony_Tech Prices tend to drop quickly online. EOV is sold out on Amazon right now, but it was around $27 a few months after launch. Looking at Alliance Alive right now, the game is only $21.
What's interesting is that the retail release of EO Untold 2 never seemed to get much of a price cut, despite the digital version diving to $19.99.
