Topic: DS upscaling when using backwards compatbility?

Would it be possible for the 3DS to upscale original DS games closer to that of it's native resolution? I want to play games like DQ9, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword with less jaggies.....

Games that use the top and bottom screens to form one large screen like Sonic Rush wouldn't look right. They wouldn't line up properly.

DS games don't look like crap on the DSi XL, so I don't think the 3DS will be any worse

@lz: My point exactly. The DSi XL screens are bigger than the 3DS screens.

@Toddr: If Sega makes a Sonic game in the Rush style for 3DS, wouldn't you have to get used to that anyway?

I dunno, I guess it should be an option whether to play it on the entire top screen or just on a part of it

They'll just letterbox the top screen just like the old days of GBC on the GBA. Perhaps they may even allow it to be stretched out to wide screen like GBA did too using some toggle switch.

I see no relevant or useful reason at all to keep a DS if you have a DSi when 3DS comes out as the old system would offer you nothing at all. An older or Lite model, if you did use the rumble pack or likely used GBA games on it, then it's probably a keeper. I have a GBASP 'backlit' one so I can do 1989 GB to death of GBA era games on that as I have a DSi, so it's a goner. I'm at this rate just trying to decide when. I may hope that Gamestop does that weenie $100 trade in value short time deal for a trade-up, or I may just try and start trying to move it on my own a few or so months ahead of the unit via Craigslist or something to try and score a bit more. Outside of DQ9 which I have now and do in pauses, Pokemon SoulSilver too, I really don't use it as all the quality games dried up awhile ago so I mainly use my PSP for handheld stuff now.

I hope it does upscale... I'm sure its possible.

I'm thinking that it may be possible for a handful of titles. Think about it: Do you honestly think that most DS games were created with the 3DS in mind? No. So unless developers implement code in their games that would allow upscaling when placed in the 3DS á la the original Shantae, it won't happen.

Exactly.

Well they might have. I mean, they have been trying to find a way to find 3D for 20+ years. Right?

But there will probably do something to make it look better. Maybe even put black lines on the edges (like in widescreen mode when watching a movie).

That's what i was hoping for. I got the DSi for a steal using that same type of Gamestop offer.

Depending on how well DS games look on the 3DS and if DSiWare is transferable, I'll probably sell or give away my DSi, as it won't be of any use to me. Hopefully they either make the bottom screen bigger or make the size of the view in DS mode on the top screen smaller and oriented to the bottom of the top screen, so that games that treat both screens as one screen together will still look right.

I'm pretty okay.

NOthing to do with it tbh, it'll go via one of a few different routes. One where the game's are simply upscaled, letterboxed as already mentioned or another where "updates" are released now and again allowing for usage of the older gen games, ala 360.
