Yes and no. Dr Mario was my first game boy game and I loved it. Though only young at the time I most likely sucked but I remember how infectious the music was.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I love the game; the NES version is probably my favorite. I originally got it for NES as a birthday present from my sister when it first came out. She chose well, knowing almost nothing about games post-Asteroids/Space Inavders, as she new i was nuts for Tetris — coincidentally enough she had also bought me my Game Boy when it had launched.
I had both the NES version and the Game Boy version. I got both of them for Christmas the same year. I am not big on puzzle games but it was fun defiantly better on two players. My mom still has my copy to this day and plays it about once a week that was the main reason I gave her my NES when I moved out.

My first experience with Dr. Mario was Melee. Though I should add that the only game my mom likes and actively plays is the Dr. Mario clone that comes with the Brain Age games.
Aren't there too many Dr. Marios in the shops? But, then again, the same goes with Tetris. (Interesting enough, they had their own SNES title, together.) Why did Mario go to medical school anyway?
One game that I liked was on the SNES Tetris and Dr. Mario it was called where you can play a two player vs. game where you would play a round of Tetris than a round of Dr. Mario and finish it off with another round of Tetris. Always liked that game and how they combined the two.

My mom still has the GB cartridge in my old Teal GBC on her nightstand. She played that game (and only that game) to death. I don't think my GBC works anymore, but you never know...
