Let's say my only actual complaint is being unable to uninstall Face Raiders.
I think Nintendo should include the functionality to uninstall factory-installed software and I see no reason to object this.

Every modern game system comes with applications that you can't delete, so I don't see the issue.

Even if it was an issue, though, it's such a tiny one that it's hardly even worth mentioning. It certainly doesn't justify being disappointed by the system.

@PolarExperience
"Why does it matter that Face Raders is on there? "

It gave me an anxiety attack. It's not that I just don't like it, trying it out was a nasty experience and I want that thing off my DS now.
I suffer from anxiety disorder and having my own face distorted, flying at me, trying to kiss me triggered an anxiety attack. Who would enjoy it anyway? Don't tell me you find that abomination of a game funny.
I could live with this and say being mentally defective is my own problem, since there's probably all kinds of warnings in the operating manual, but not being able to remove the software seems almost insulting.

I'm diagnosed with GAD, so I get it. and I'm really sorry you had an anxiety attack.

also consider: you don't have to play the game.

I think i'm one of the few people who actually enjoyed Face Raiders.

Suggestion:
1) Create a folder
2) Stick game in said folder
3) Drag folder with game as far to the right as possible on the home screen (it's quite long, so it might take a few seconds of dragging to the right)
4) Scroll back to the left, where all your other applications are
5) Never see Face Raiders again

Problem solved!

...I forgot that FaceRaiders was even a thing....just toss it in the corner where you'll never see it like 100% of the people who own system did.

Nah I liked face raiders as well. Still played it from time to time before the switch came out.

To the OP, just toss it in a folder and its out of your way. Plenty of software companies put on software that is baked into the OS.

@Aroraboi89 I don’t find the game funny, but it is enjoyable for a little while.
I think we can agree with Dr. Phil on this, with his philosophy of “different strokes for different folks”.

For me, the 3DS is my "desert island console." I can't imagine being without one.

@Joeynator3000 Hate to break it to you, but Pokémon definitely IS a Nintendo property. They’re the publisher, the sole owner of the trademark, and an equal owner over the property as a whole with Game Freak and Creatures. Nintendo might not develop the games in their own first-party studios, but saying Pokémon isn’t a Nintendo franchise is kind of like saying Donkey Kong Country isn’t a Nintendo franchise.

Nintendo doesn't own Pokemon, they own Donkey Kong.

OP I think that it's too soon for you to feel disappointed on the system. Sure, it would be great that if you could delete the default apps and games from your handheld, but as mentioned by others, maybe you could just ignore it. I also loved the SP and the 3DS was also my next Nintendo handheld after it since I never got a DS and I can assure you that it hasn't disappointed one little bit. Between all the 3DS, DS, indies and VC available on the console, I have around 80 games on it and I still want more. Give it time, search for quality games (there are tons) and try to stop focusing on what you don't like about the console, since it's just a bad first impression from what I can see.

@Aroraboi89 Face Raiders is such a small file that it’s barely a blip on your SD card. Just move it to a junk folder and ignore it. But also, maybe get used to the fact that most modern devices come with extra software packed in, some of which you might not want.

As for setting up accounts, you’re not required to do that. You can buy games physically and never have to interact with accounts of any kind, just like you did with your Game Boy. But I can’t think of a single digital storefront of similar type to the eShop that doesn’t require some kind of account to use it.

And the camera thing. What’s the issue there? It’s a super cheap camera, so it’s not like it cost you an arm and a leg to have it included. But we’re well beyond the era of simple, straightforward electronics devices. Bells and whistles are expected by consumers, so manufacturers will keep packing them in. I doubt that will ever change.

You’re right though, you can always build your own device and download roms to it. I prefer to actually pay for the games I play, but that’s just me.

1. The account only exists so that you have a unified wallet across all of Nintendo's products. It wasn't there at the launch of the 3DS it was something that was added later. Before they added this it you put a $60 gift card on the 3DS you couldn't use it on your Wii U. It being there is undeniably a good thing as the Wii didn't have this which meant some credit I had on the Wii was effectively lost.

2. The camera is rarely used so the belief that it's a "a social media machine" or a "smartphone" as is a bit misplaced. Face Raiders used it as did I believe one WarioWare game and a gimicky photo based fighting game. It was also used as a way to automatically create a Mii and on some of the later 3D models to track your eyes to enhance the 3DS effect. The latter of which the 2DS obviously lacks being the 2D only SKU. Usually the criticism about the 3DS was that the cameras are utterly useless and that online connectivity was bellow par. In all the years the 3DS has been out this is the first I've heard of anyone saying the opposite.....

3. Face Raiders can't be uninstalled but having some software built in is not really uncommon. If you have a smartphone you would know you can't uninstall some apps there either. And in any case the 3DS is not like a phone or a PC, it doesn't really run these apps in the background. It also doesn't take up any storage as the game is on the internal storage as part of the console's firmware and not the SD card where all of your other games are stored. Really, it's just a tech demo. To be blunt, you're making a mountain out of a molehill here, get over it.

Just noticed another feature I don't like.
It's the screen wobble. The screen moves around a couple of centimeters when it locks into place.
Here's somebody's vid of it:

Apparently my unit isn't broken but it was intended to do that. I'm guessing it prevents stuff from breaking.
