@Jaz007: what I mean by "more or less a spinoff" is that the Metroid games are made completely apart from the "main" (without Prime in the name) games.
Primes make references to other games, but it's never (or rarely) the other way around. They're tucked somewhere in the time line were they don't affect it too much.
That's what I meant. They're quite clearly big Metroid games, but they're just more of a side story.
I was initially, like many others, furious over the direction of this game, and I'm still miffed that (1) it's on the 3ds and not the Wii U; and (2) that it has a chibi-looking art style. However, I just watched the Nintendo Treehouse video and the gameplay (moreso the missions, less so the blastball game) actually looks pretty interesting. There were even some Halo-style moments of taking down space pirates as they flew in a spaceship overhead. The fact that there is a single player mode, that the developer has a good track record, and that Samus and the metroids make an appearance, also reassures me somewhat. I think more people will be reassured once Nintendo airs a direct on it giving people more explicit information about the game.
Regarding the art style...sigh. In my opinion, it's a clear attempt of Nintendo trying to make their games appeal more to Japanese audiences (the Metroid series hasn't previously been that popular to Japan), notwithstanding Metroid's primary appeal to Western gamers and the fact that, for better or worse, Western gamers are the most relevant/largest audience these days. The Japanese gaming market has, quite frankly, shrunk, and its a waste of time and resources trying to win them back over instead of redirecting resources to the Western market. Sony realized that and upped their ante. I really hope Nintendo does so too.
Do the knuckle-draggers signing that petition believe that if Federation Force is canceled, Metroid Prime 4 will magically appear on Wii U in its place? All it would do is provide Next Level with a glorious waste of time and money.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

this.
as much as im not fan of the game (and do want see more before plan on buying it) this petiton would not help much anyways (A): as you said it would waste money (B): Nintendo isnt going there way to look at change.org and say "oh we should cancelled this game because are fans wanted to"

What do they mean by Main story? Something that's like Splatoon?
But the other thing that worries me most is that its being developed by Next Level Games which made Dark Moon. Granted, Dark Moon is still fun for what it is but its a tad of a disappointment as a sequel and I'm worried if they will screw this one up.
That being said, I'm looking forward to it. I personally never got to try out the Prime series.
After watching some of the Tree house live I can say I can totally get behind this game now. Reminds me of Halo lite and looks to be a lot of fun. Sure it's not the Metroid we all wanted but what's wrong with trying something new within the same universe!

Can you expand on that please as I'm not getting your point.
Okay, I'll admit it. The Day 3 Treehouse footage looked really cool.
BUT, Please Nintendo, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, put Voice Chat in this game. Can you imagine how much of a killjoy it would be if you can't vocally cooperate with your friends on individual missions.

The world looks barren by comparison. No little details, or anything of the like. Yeah, there's a shininess factor to it, but an upressed Prime Hunters would unquestionably look better in pretty much every way. I mean, just look at it running in higher definition with some anti-aliasing:
Why did Next Level go with such a boring look? Especially after Dark Moon, which was one of the best looking games on the system? Yes, graphics aren't everything, but there's a certain standard that should be expected when we're paying such a premium for video games.
It's not like this game is releasing anytime soon. I love it when people complain of the way a game looks when it has possibly a year to go. Plus the world do look like they belong in the Prime universe. Atm it does look a little barren but give it time.

Metroid hunters looks great on the DS. But that's because the game was designed around the graphics.
This time it's probably the other way around, they clearly want a more action shooter experience, with multiple players.
Just having super pretty corridors and small arenas with about five enemies in them would not be good enough for that, so they had to think of an alternate graphic style that better allowed for that gameplay on this system.

To me, the problem is not technical. I don't care about the details. What's totally wrong is the cartoonish "deformed" style, is this Metroid or Ratchet & Clank?
(Don't get me wrong, R&C is great, but its style doesn't belong to Metroid at all)

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that this could not have been handled with a graphic style that is of higher quality. Resident Evil: Revelations and Kid Icarus: Uprising have fantastic looking multiplayer sections that run smooth and have a lot going on. This looks like a rush job.
I also think you're undercutting what Hunters did on the DS. Some of the arenas for multiplayer were quite large, and they even featured elements that felt Metroid-y, like using the morph ball form to take shortcuts and reach weapons and health. Considering how much more powerful the 3DS is, I think it would have been quite possible to deliver a game that accomplishes what they want while still going for a style reminiscent of the Metroid games.
Yes, the game will look better at launch, but the aesthetics aren't something that can be changed easily. This is the first time a Nintendo system brought about its best looking games earlier in its lifespan than later.
Best thread ever

I don't get why people are suddenly saying prime hunters was some amazing metroid game when it was extremely difficult to control and had copy and paste bosses. Prime hunters was just a collectathon with bosses repeating themselves rather then a progressive game like the others. Hunters was just graphics and multiplayer on the DS.. nothing more as things were pretty repetitive and boring in that game, IMO.
It seems like everybody completely forgot how metroid prime's beta graphics looked when it first revealed... or maybe how polygonial pikmin was prior to final release.. This game isn't coming out until 2016, they'll patch the graphics up a bit.
@Artwark, The game is a spin-off, it isn't a sequel to any particular metroid title. It's mearly just to expand on the metroid universe a bit by telling more about the galatic federation instead of expanding on samus. (And even then, it will have samus's connection in it somehow)
