I can assure you my computer is not slow, my glasses are only 3 months old and well adjusted. Either you're the one bull****ing me, Mr. ACCC, or maybe you should concede that you are just one person and therefore cannot speak for anyone other than yourself.
I could see the differences in the videos. One was just smoother than the other. I have seen other 30 fps and 60 fps comparison videos and they mostly show the same thing. 60 fps just means smoother animations.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
I think the main point is whether or not it effects gameplay. I do think the faster paced a game is the higher fps it should be, I haven't seen gameplay footage of this game myself so I cannot comment whether the gameplay seems to be effected by it being 30 fps.
EDIT: I do think 60 fps is better for games, but that doesn't mean every game NEEDS it. if Azure Striker Gunvolt plays fine in 30 fps according to the reviewer then I don't see why he should bring it up.
To come up with a better analogy than the cheese analogy posted earlier, should reviewers not mention when a game lacks online multiplayer? Online multiplayer is a feature which many people don't care about, and while it provides a tremendous boost to some games, it isn't necessary for any game to function. Should people who care about online play be left in the dark by reviewers who don't care about the feature?
A review is not a list of technical features. If you're so desperate to know about the specs and framerate, there are websites specifically for that type of information. Same with Multiplayer - most games list what multiplayer features it has, if it has any at all, right on the box. I highly doubt that if they're left in the dark, it'll be anyone's fault but their own.
I watched that video. I did not notice a difference at all, except looking between two panels started to give me a headache. Heck, I didn't even realize there was supposed to be a difference until I saw the different FPS rates at the bottom. Where was there a difference? What was I supposed to be noticing? They both looked exactly the same to me. I've seen framerate differences. I've played games at 15 FPS. But obviously with a 2D game like that there'd be hardly a difference at all.
There's an optometrist posting in this thread. You may want to schedule an appointment with him.
Or maybe your computer is slow? I dunno, I found the difference very noticeable when Mario was running around the level.
There is a noticeable difference, I just think some people can't really tell. I haven't played this game (EU) so can't say if 30fps is a bit of a deal breaker myself but when it comes to a fighting or racing game it pretty much is.
A good test is comparing something like NSMBU to NSMB2 - Grabbing onto ropes. It is not just what it looks like it affects what it plays like. (And because of that the design of the levels which have to be more forgiving).
I am glad he mentioned it anyway. (I presumed it would be 60fps). Maybe they will port it elsewhere at 60fps and I will get it.
“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”
Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
anybody who says they don't notice it is lying or being willfully ignorant.
I'm sure going to miss reviewing video games.
It is too bad the 1 negative voice is louder than the 5 positive voices. Your review made me add it to my wishlist. I was semi interested before but your review made me really want to get it lol.

Yeah this thread really took a turn, but you know how fickle games people can be... you've seen them all!
I really don't understand what my virtual profession has to do with anything, and I'm usually the first person to contend for perceptible differences in frame rate. The human brain is an incredible thing after all. But the effect on game play can be mitigated to the point that it provides no noticeable degradation to the experience, and that is certainly what Phil and others have spoken to.
But saying it provides no noticeable degradation to the experience is flat-out wrong. It was literally the first thing I noticed when I started moving my character, and it resulted in a profoundly negative impact on my experience with the game. Another poster in this thread has echoed the exact same sentiment.

I felt the same thing. You get used to it after a while, but it's strange that it doesn't play as smoothly as, say, Megaman X on the Super Nintendo or even Megaman ZX on DS.
Seen the Mario 3 video someone posted, and yep, I can tell the difference. The left side definitely runs more smoothly than the right side.
My point is, we have other pixel-based platformers with stereoscopic 3D on the 3DS such as Mighty Switch Force, Mighty Switch Force 2 and Cave Story (among others), all running at a silky-smooth 60fps. What is Gunvolt's excuse not to be in that group?
It's stuff like graphics talk that make me hate most gamers...I seriously can't believe how many of you find it to be a problem. It's like a little kid complaining about white bread having crust on it. It's effing bread, man. It'll taste the same and it;ll all go down the same pipe. Just grow up and eat it. It'll stop being a problem the moment you stop making a problem out of it. Geez...
It's not about the graphics. The graphics are fine. It's about the performance.
Even Super Smash Brothers For 3DS runs at 60 fps, and I'm pretty sure we can all agree that that game is significantly more resource-intensive than Gunvolt. So, again, what is Gunvolt's excuse?
Also, everyone experiences the same videogames differently. For some people this may be a non-issue, and that's fine. More power to ya and all that. But for some other people, this affects their enjoyment of the game. Because we are all different. Go figure.

Smash Bros is a massive budget release from one of the biggest game companies in the world. Comparing it to Gunvolt is unfair.
No it's not, getting 2D games to run at 60 fps is pretty easy. Almost every low budget 2D game on the eShop is 60 fps. Mighty Switch Force is 60 fps. Mutant Mudds is 60 fps. Gunman Clive is 60 fps. Harmoknight is 60 fps. Shovel Knight is 60 fps. Night Sky is 60 fps. Every single 2D DSiWare and Virtual Console game I own is 60 fps. The only 30 fps 2D games I have on my 3DS (besides Gunvolt) are Fluidity Spin Cycle and VVVVVV, and both of those have reasons for only running at 30 fps (Fluidity uses advanced water physics and VVVVVV was developed in Flash). With Gunvolt, there's really no reason that they couldn't have gotten it to run at 60 fps.

Correct me if I'm wrong but none of those indie titles are as graphically intensive as Gunvolt are they? (Excluding HarmoKnight)
If it was easy to get it running at 60FPS they would have done so. The devs don't seem lazy to me; they created an additional game to give away free with Gunvolt after all. Either it was too difficult on the engine they used or it was a conscious choice by the developer.
