@Raider70 By the way, about 999 and Zero Escape, be aware that the point of those games is not to get to the end, but to rather see every ending. The simple fact of the matter is that you are not going to get a good ending the first time through, and that is a part of the game. Also, 999's approach to getting different endings can be a bit tedious, so I'd highly recommend using a spoiler-free guide to play through it so you don't waste your time. Zero Escape doesn't have that problem. Also, 999 has some... interesting word choice in certain places, and is well-written in a plot-sense, not in a word sense. Don't be expecting amazing prose. It's more about the story itself. I think this is because the game was hard to translate, meaning that they had to fit in the exact same amount of characters for each phrase in the game. Nonetheless, it's truly a hallmark of narrative in games and comes with my highest regard.

@Raider70: The Shin Megami games are also made by Atlus and they're amazing! They're all worth the money and time,the series is dark and very difficult and on the eshop right now for very good prices and go on sale alot. Like the forth one is 20 dollars right now and it's the best of the series and it's good game for beginners to start the franchise. Sorry if i sound like a fanboy right now.

@Raider70: Oh and SMT IV was my personal game of the year that year. It's one of a handful of 3ds open world style games.

Devil Survivor Overclocked is also in my top 5 3ds games which btw has 3 Atlus games in it. Excellent story and great gameplay. Have yet to play the second Overclocked but I'm sure it's equally good. Now me runs and hides. 😰

Understood . Seems like those games really made an impression on you . I am going to add both to my list to check out . Will try to get 999 first as I like to play things in order whenever possible .. Unless they are not a continuation , story wise .

Not one bit .. I am going to go look that up as soon as I finish playing the EO IV demo for the night . There is probably a trailer for fourth Shin Megami game. 20 bucks for a long , dark rpg sounds right up my alley

@Raider70: Out of the games I mentioned... Id say my favorite is bravely default. the job system is addicting, and you can choose the difficulty level so it can be extremely hard or nice for casual gamers. Btw, outside of RPGs, I really enjoyed ridge racer 3D, dead or alive dimensions and ghost recon shadow wars. but it seems youve got so many options to choose from and Im just adding to your selection XD

I'll second Ghost Recon Shadow Wars ( best launch game imo) Bravely Default and Ridge Racer. Haven't played Dead Or Alive so can't second that.

Unlike the ds where rpg's were hit or miss you almost can't go wrong with any rpg on the 3ds. There is a couple so so ones but most are really good to exceptional.

I am beginning to take notice that there are a ton of great looking rpg's on this system . SMT IV is definitely one I want to play .

@VoltageX and and @Spooney_Tech I played Fire Emblem awakening to completion and I loved it. Is shadow wars quite similar? Also how does the difficulty of shadow wars compare to Awakening?

@miiandmario: There's 3 difficulty setting and you can change them per mission so it's as hard or easy as you want. You get more rewards the harder the setting.

Each character levels up and gets better weapons, armor, and or range and such. The gameplay is similar but with military weapons as opposed to the ones in Fire Emblem. No magic in this one. I would say this is a definite buy for anyone the like the gener and it's not quite as long as Fire Emblem but it's still quite a long game.

The one main difference would be that all animation happens in real time and you don't get a one on one fight screen. So when you move to attack your character launches the attack right then and there.

@miiandmario: In addition to what Spoony_Tech said, you also have a vareity of skirmish missions which add to the replay value of the game. I have more than 100 hours on this one, easily one of the best strategy games Ive played alongside fire emblem and the best launch game the 3DS had in my opinion =]

Thanks for checking back . I really like the demo .. Not finished yet and you were spot on .. Have clocked right at 9 hours so far. Full game must be huge . If that is representative of the games on this system ... Right up my alley. Definitely going to pick up this game at some point . Got sidetracked and played through the Bravely Default demo and loved it . Now though , the xenoblade cart stuffed inside the 3ds is mocking me , so I think I am going to start that this weekend. I am headed to Montana for 12 days starting next week , and my little red friend will be going with me .

Have you played xenoblade? Your impressions ? What other games have you recently played that I should put on my radar? Thanks in advance !

@Raider70: I have played it and enjoyed it. Beautiful world to explore and great story. I thought the gameplay got repetitive but was still good.

Have you played either of the console Zeldas on the 3ds? Oot and Majoras Mask? Also many lived Mario 3d land and it's definitely worth checking out.

I played Ocarina of time way back on the 64 and loved it . I never checked out Majora's mask but definitely have it on my short list , along with Link Between Worlds. I see myself picking up Ocarina again for the 3d affect ( plus it's just simply a classic). As far as Mario 3d .. That represents the dilemma I am finding out I have with this new system.. I am kind of an RPG junkie , and there are so many available that I want to play / need to catch up on . Totally crazy. A game like that might be great to grab and play for just a bit as a breather during or between diving deep in the RPG's. I want to play SMG IV, rune factory 4, Bravely default , fire emblem awakening, and so many others . I need to plant a money tree and hope it grows !

@Raider70: I can't remember if this was suggested but Radiant Historia on the ds was mine and a lot of people's favorite rpg on the ds. I would even put that over some others you have on that list but it could be a chore to find and the price might be high. I also posted something for you in the Legend of Legacy topic.

Thanks . This is becoming like a nice nightmare to have . I have been compiling a detailed list of all 3ds / eshop games to check out . Have not even started to dig into DS offerings .. I will start that list with this one .

I hope this console has eaten it's wheaties, as it is apparently in for a workout !
