Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster Updated On Switch, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

"In the Holoholo Jungle, during the boss battle against the Holoholobird, players are unable to progress if the battle lasts more than a certain amount of time"

Lol this boss battle has given plenty of Baten Kaitos players some grief over its difficulty, so I find it hilarious that a bug has made it even harder by adding a time limit to it.

They've also added a bug, main character constantly has a dithering effect, unless speaking to someone or in a cutscene. Kind of kills off the immersion that does.

You gotta be kidding. The holoholo bird fight was bugged? I’m getting PTSD flashbacks. I need to go lay down. F that bird…and its kids.

And here you go. The physical is basically a plastic waste.

Good to know they're updating it. My copy is still sealed and sitting on a shelf. Have had too many other games to play

Please don't remind me of the Hololobird war. I haven't been this angry in a long time.

Exactly this. Holoholo birds man. They're something. It's like saying there's a bug that randomly crashes your game during the battle on the Goldoba in the first game. It would just make an infamoulsy difficult battle even worse. Also, oh a man of culture I see.

By the way guys, protip : USE A NEW SAVEFILE WHEN YOU GET ON THE GOLDOBA. Thank me later.

This update arrives right before I finish the first game. I hope it improves the frame rate of the first game. It's not terrible but it's really the only thing that's annoying in this otherwise great HD port. Also it's good to see that they are still supporting it.

Huh? What’s wrong with the goldoba that you need to use a new file?

IIRC from the GC version (it's been a long time) there's a difficult boss fight on there and no way to leave to get different cards or level up at the church, so if you save in there while not equipped to fight the boss, you're kinda stuck.

English voice over would be good since they already exist.

Well pretty much what EarthboundBenjy said. The game doesn't force you to grind an awful lot up to that point so you can definitely get there on the Goldoba without crazy amounts of xp or really optimized decks. Problem is once you're there you can't leave the area and the save point there doesn't allow you to heal or level up. So if you're underleveled you can potentially get screwed pretty bad.

Some people back in the day stopped playing the game because of that and the area was infamous for that so it's kind of the Holoholo bird of the first game. Plus the music for this boss fight was some kind of crazy dance music that's really unique in the whole ost so people would get ptsd just from hearing the tune.

As for me though I did that mistake, was underleveled, and it forced me to really play my cards well, literally, to optimize my decks and strategize. The game really clicked for me when I won that battle as it made me realize you can really turn the tide in your favor if you plan well. It's not just grinding like 90% of rpgs out there.

I haven't played it yet, just tried BK a bit to get the memories... What a great game it was! I can't wait to finally put my hands on Origins, although I need to finish up some games first. In the meantime, they can update whatever they want lol

So basically the physical release is sort of busted?

Not really. It's just bug fixes. The game on cart is perfectly playable in my experience, though granted I only played the first one.

@mlt Playable, sure. But to have a boss stop progression of the story if the fight goes too long? I'd qualify that as busted.

@Magician if it were any other boss then yea but honestly if you are taking a long time on the holoholo bird, you are likely not gonna win anyway. It is the master of attrition if you aren’t prepared and starts at an unexpected point if you don’t have a good save to go grind before it beats you black and blue (repeatedly). There is a reason a bunch of the other comments are complaining more about the boss than the bugs. Lol.

It seems Bandai Namco is not good at remastering their own games.

Too bad they didn't fix the censorship and put in the english dubs.

But is the Goldoba the Airship where you have the Boss Battle against 2 people of the Empire? Because god I Remember being stuck there for a more than a week or something trying to beat them, and you couldn't get off it to buy stuff or cure yourself.

I thought I had to start the game all over, but after countless attempt the RNG God blessed me with a victory.

@fabiop North America hasn't gotten a physical yet so hoping it comes (and has most updates).

@EaglyBird Basically a famously difficult boss fight was made worse by there being a bug that gave it a hidden time limit.

But the boss fight sucks normally. Seriously if you look up holoholo bird fight, you will see a bunch of people complaining. The fight while annoying, would be fine except it happens at the start of disc 2 in the original format and if you didn’t know to make a save file before you get locked into the fight then if you had a crap deck or were under level (or both) then you just signed up for the card battler version of dark souls. I quit BKO for four years out of frustration (and had to start over because it was my only manual save). Breezed through the rest of the game in comparison.
